Very good job! I do a bit throatsinging myself and I do also like stoner metal, so I was absolutely amazed when I heared this masterwork! Do you have more of this stuff? :D
@DavidRayT i would have said alice in chains due to the harmonizing choices. but both our references seem to fit fairly well. this does sound rather good, though. i realized i honestly never gave orange amps much of a chance until i came across these videos. think i'll take my bass out and try some out.
@DavidRayT just a follow-up. i did try out the bass terror 500 amp through a 4x12 cab and i'm pretty sure it sounded like fucking god. they ought to call it the 'pedestrian bass amp 500' though because my saved money suddenly shifted intent from 'car' to 'amp' hahahaha
@DavidRayT indeed it is exactly that. same preamp section as the ad200 [now becoming known as the 'geddy lee model' because he's started using it] with a 500watt solid state class d power section. i sound like an advertisement. i swear they're not paying me hahaha. brought my geddy lee sig jazz bass in to a shop and thrashed the thing with meshuggah and dubstep lines. cos i'm excessive like that.
@DavidRayT well, there are always detractors. lots of folks are just dedicated to the idea of tube infidelity because it has that certain something, that 'warmth'. i played through a phil jones digital amp with a phil jones 12x5 cab [that's twelve, five inch drivers, not five twelves] and it was a super hi-fi sound. but over time i realized, as much as i love the science behind it and the ability to reproduce sounds with extreme accuracy, i like that boomy warmth more. with a tube pre, i have it
@DavidRayT testing the orange head through the pj cab will be my next step. i have high hopes, especially for what i paid for the thing haha. but with a child and a car purchase as well as the high probability of being laid off soon, i might want to just sell it and forget i ever had the thing. life's bullshit, man. :/
hey, you used to have a video with some really cool stoner doom throat singing music put to that clip of nausicaa where the giant steaming dripping flesh laser god warrior comes over the hillside an blasts apart the ohmu and then dies and the old lady says "thats the way it should be, the anger of the ohmus reflects the anger of the earth, the earth knows its wrong for us to survive" that video was epic!!! can you post it again? of like post the video file on megaupload or something??
There are no rules in music except one and only one...It has to groove that groove that makes others feel the same way you do.Thats one of the great aspects of music. This jam puts me in a good mood and makes me wanna trip out on some hollow waves somewhere.....
dude you mastered the tuvan throat singing with metal..... im doing the same thing with punk rock ..... right on....... glad to know there are more vocalists doing this
Sounds like very slow Alice in Chains, the voice is Layne - something is not throat singing here if you know how it really sounds when our Inuit do it...
Good work, I have find difficult to practice throat singing, but maybe some day I can do it too... Thanks for this piece, sounds like heavens, inspirates like a dream. Or something like that :).
Throat singing/overtone singing should go very well with metal music--metal guitar uses more overtone techniques than probably any music I know, so it fits in with that. This sounds pretty good--nice experimentation. Keep developing what you're doing; it could become a very signature sound for you.
@deadline27 Haha cool. It's pretty damn easy to download the mp3 off youtube. The quality is way better as the original file compared to youtube quality.
...that was fuckin' huge! I loved this, it's got some serious potential; keep up with it, I had been thinking of the idea of throat singing over some kind of stoner or sludge metal, but it looks like someone else has already done it
After a minute had passed in the video I realized that this sounds A LOT like one or two of my own musical ideas that I've had in my own mind (but lacking the proper instruments and gear to play it, so it's a mental construct for now :p)
I'd do the singing with some more echo added to it though, personally.
@Guitarscreech06 Don't be bummed if it sounds similar since I wasn't plannin gon using this riff on anything really, haha! Besides stoner always sounds the same.
@Guitarscreech06 LOL! I'm actually very very disappointed on how the guitars sounded on this. It sounds redicilously clean and it blends in witht he bass in a weird way.
Yeah, some more distortion and lowered middle/ up'd highs on the guitar would help... I think. (not too good with describing amp and acoustic terminology to ppl)
@Guitarscreech06 The micing position was terrible. It drained out all the fuzz and mid and ended up making the guitar sound flat as fuck. It also blended with the bass.
without having too much knowledge on these things: You could try to plug it in to your PC soundcard and record in an instant? (You'll need something like GuitarRig to emulate amp effects, but there won't be muffled sounds)
@Guitarscreech06 I did that 4 years ago and that's a bad idea. Sounds digital as hell.
I'd rather use an expensive condenser/dynamic microphone close to the cabinet of a tube amp like I do now. This song just happened to have a bad set-up.
That was really cool, kinda reminded me of the song Hymns to the Stone by Acrimony. Sounds badass though, might be able to use some chorus on it if you wanted to do it live maybe.
I probably could, haha. Just a little bit of reverb and that's it, I guess. I was trying it out. But I'd need other backing singers though. I have 6 vocal tracks goin' on here.

DavidRayT 5 months ago
@DavidRayT certainly. i'd say most bass amps are solid state. but now there's a whole new digital class too.

@intrepgun So SS is more respectable for bass amps than guitar amps. Lol
