Amazing writing by Carla Lane such an insight into the human condition. Saw every single episode of this series, Wendy Craig plays a blinder as Rea - the wife and mother in "Menopausal Meltdown".
I've been a fan of 'Butterflies' since I was a teenager. Which is sort of apt, I suppose, since 'there must be more to Life than this' is written through everything Ria( feel free to correct my spelling) says and does. She's a dreamer, battered by life, but determined, creative and resourceful. Beautiful, delicate writing.
I know this is comedy, but in Carla Lane's incredible hands this kind of comedy is equal to the very best of Drama shown on British Television.
The problem with British Television comedy today is there are no examples (WHAT-SO-EVER) of the depth of feeling and pathos that Carla Lane had shown on Butterflies and much later 'Solo' with Felicity Kendal.
If Comedy is so much about reality today; then it should make YOU THINK like Butterflies was able to.
Ah...Wendy Craig! - anyone (from the UK) remember this incredible comedy series by Carla Lane (of Liver Birds and Bread fame)? - the best comedy is tinged with pain...it was such genius.
