  • The passion these two share is immeasurable. An absolute delight to watch. Thank you.

  • those 3 dislikes were from bf-109 pilots.

  • An incredable acheivement , and enthusiasm such as that from your wife ,Priceless .

  • God Bless him for doing what he did may he rest in peace.

  • Jolly good show!

  • Best wife ever!

  • GOD bless you carolyn. thank you both

  • Awsome engine, Awsome sound, Awsome plane. superb piece of filming.

  • Is Caroline Australian? She sounds a bit Aussie! Beautiful piece of film! I have never seen it - and I too could feel myself welling up! Even more so as I lost my Dad 2 years ago to Cancer and He loved these old birds as much as I do. We watyched them fly around Broughton Aerospace near Chester. We used to live 4 doors away from a Spitfire designer in Chester. Remarkable aircraft. Also another remarkable aircraft was the Lancaster Bomber - used to be built near here too!

  • 2 seat spitfire? woah

  • 1:26 responsible parent

  • save them.

  • The spitfire is a remarkable plane. Well done sir for making the effort to get this plane working. We must as a nation save these planes for the future.

  • boy now I really miss David Niven

  • To me this is one of the most beautiful combat planes in the world.

  • Whatever happens this aircraft must continue to be in such caring hands.

  • This clip could very well be the very best on the entire U-tube!

  • Moving.

  • Wonderful video, I still have this on an old battered VHS video.

Nick & Carolyn Grace are both truly inspirational people, so very sad that Nick isn't here to fly her!

  • Thank you for looking after and restoring this wonderful aircraft. The gentleman and lady are very well spoken. It is a pleasure to hear and see. Well done! Ken, from Ireland.

  • this is the best airplane

  • im only 23 and seriously watching this makes me horny she's so tidy for an old bird

  • you stole the special moment start up the engine

  • Oh my god, I just stumbled upon this video when looking for a decent piece of film of a Spitfire starting up.

The other night I was watching James Mays Toy Stories, where he's attempting to build a life sized airfix spitfire model. At one point, he was taken for a flight in this very aircraft, with Carolyn Grace piloting. Start at 6m50s

    /watch?v=FTTHZOJMPYk

    Yep, it's still beautiful :))

  • How could anyone dislike this video? I love seeing old vehicles and aircraft being restored. Especially if it has a history to it. 5 stars and a tear of joy XD

  • The sound of the Merlin engine, whatever it has been put in, makes me emotional.

  • What a fantastic film, little did she know that one day she would carry on flying. God bless you Karalin....

  • @dhbassman you can buy it at ml407.co.uk on DVD. Glad you like it!

  • I want that engine in my camaro...

  • I remember watching the "Perfect Lady" on TV all those years ago and was totally enthralled and in awe of The Grace family's hard work and dedication in bringing this beautiful aeroplane back to life. I had the programme on VHS tape but would love to find it on DVD.

Bless you Carolyn for continuing to keep the dream alive after Nick's tragic passing.

  • I recorded it from the TV program but I think the full video is available from the ml407 website. See title.

  • @pmscott6135 I don't know if this is the same Spitfire, it is incredibly lovely and lump appropriately in throat. My wife's cousin Sandy served in Gulf in Tornadoes, before that F4s, he got "Gulf fever" because of the anti poison drugs our guy and girls were given. He got to fly a 2 place Spitfire, he loved it to bits, he rolled it against all laws, we loved him to bits, he adored his job and family. Such a lovely man and so driven and inspirational. He would say " that's the sound of freedom"

  • I've been looking for this documentary (The Perfect Lady) for years... had it on VHS... where did you find the footage for this upload is it downloadable? Thanks old boy.

  • I say, old man, bloody good show.

  • I love any form of restoration.. and this was awesome to watch.

  • What a beautiful piece of footage taken of two people who so obviously loved each other, and loved their project.

  • Perfect...

  • I have heard that part of Carolyn's work today is that she can be employed to conduct fly overs at funerals. On the final pass she will do a victory roll. Apparently people have applauded.

She is this gentle, elegant lady in the cruise but in the fight she becomes this wicked girl who smacks your bottom and says if your a good boy, she might just save your life.

No wonder so many English school boys loved her.

  • CONGRATULATION AND GREATINGS FROM HUNGARY!

    HAVE ALWAYS HAPPY LANDING!:))

  • Know what you mean !

  • A DVD that I must buy soon !!! Excellent

  • The emotional part for me was seeing the two hugging each other.

  • where would we be without men like Nick and his vision and passion

and Carolyn who flies like a goddess a tribute to his work

  • the spitfire is one of the ww2 planes ever made

  • Thanks for posting...What a clip, and what a family for carrying on what Nick had undertaken, truly amazing and all credit to them.

  • Wow...

  • An incredible man and his equally impressive wife....superb

  • Amazing! This is a brilliant clip!

  • very good video, congratulations friend, it hurts that I have never seen one!, greetings from Mexico ..

  • its like they flying "hey nick whats that?"

nick turns his head " Oh sh*t its the luftwafa!"

the 5 bf109's swoop in and they dog fight.

    Yeah...

  • The story of Nick Grace is always a good talking point when people get concerned about the safety of flying.

Same for so many pilots, its usually not the flying that gets them, but some other damn thing in life thats so damn petty compared to flying.

Everytime I fly I keep Nick and his achievements in my mind - he's fantastic, and so is his family for keeping the Spitfire flying.

  • Wow

  • God bless Nick grace, left us with a legend

  • Magnificent aircraft, I'm glad people care enough to restore and resurrect these wonderful machines.

  • Wasn't this aeroplane featured on

James May's " airfix toy story" programme?

  • That was just tooo cool.

  • camaraman is spoilt cos you skipped to show full start up to running engine it is not fair!!!!

  • The "Grace Spitfire" as she is known is a mark IX I think. she has a Merlin with 27 litres capacity and well over 2000 horsepower. She is the most glorious machine and the only 2 seater surviving as far as I know. I;ll get better figures and re-post later when I get home. Don't forget, that engine also powered the Lancaster, hurricane, mustang and even some halifaxes! Truly "the engine that won the second world war!

  • 27 litres!! you serious i didnt know it was that big lol

  • @premieresoldat hi the merlin in this spit is about 1500hp,i think the most they produced in a spit was around 1650hp(mk 9) then they moved to the griffon which went up to around 2350hp in the mk 22/24 but most were around 2050hp,theres about half a dozen two seat spits, this is the the most famous i think,i saw it fly low over a pub near woodbridge two years ago, lovely plane

  • Such a beautiful machine and the sound is something else, the only other machine that does it for me is the Honda 250cc 6 cylinder motorcycle from the 60s, does anyone know the cc of the Merlin and the output of the engine please, my Grandfather flew in mosquitos as a photographer and am trying to find more information on both aircraft. thanks for posting this great video.

  • it did bring a tear to my eye. I live in oregon, the states. greetings from across the pond :)

  • This damned film bring tears to my eyes every time I watch it.

  • You're not alone.

  • @pmscott6135

    @Fishnflightbum

aye, you're not alone at all..

  • @pmscott6135 we're not alone

  • i have seen her and the two seater fly over duxford 2 years ago

  • @Fishnflightbum yes, we're not alone

  • @Fishnflightbum you pussy

  • @Fishnflightbum agreed. i am grateful to them for doing what they did.

  • "Off it went in a big hurry"

Yup... ;) Thanks for sharing neebur.

  • Isn't it amazing how such an everyday thing such as the starting of an engine can be so moving within a certain context...

What a wonderful moment to share, very touching...

    Thank you!

  • I think a major part of this is Nick Grace's low key commentary to what had been a mamonth piece of work.

    Peter

  • @nightmathzombieethan you pussy.

  • @Runkleforskin Yeah, we can't all be outstanding bastions of manhood like yourself, now go jack off to some wrestling. If you can't appreciate great examples of good engineering built during some of the worst times in history and relied on by some of the bravest people ever to keep them alive then that's YOUR problem, not mine. Considering that you may have not even existed if it weren't for machines like this, I'd think you'd at least be able to appreciate them a little.

  • @nightmathzombieethan bah quit trying to be all philisophical, this isnt a college. its youtube. Expect people to call you a pussy when you rub your twat and get all teary eyed. FAGGOT

  • @Runkleforskin Faggot? Really? I guess I shouldn't waste my time arguing with a 13 year old. I'm suprised you kiss your uncle with that mouth. Maybe you need to act even tougher on here, because all I see in your words is your pathetic insecurity screaming out to be taken seriously, and the din is a little annoying. .

  • @nightmathzombieethan I can see you are into the 'kissing your uncle' routine. I guess your uncle used to touch you at night when you went to bed.. and you woke up with his weiner laying across your face :) You are a faggot, a wet dick faggot. Cry some more about a godam airplane sttarting up you bitch :)

  • @Runkleforskin YUP, STILL pathetic, try again when you're old enough to come up with REAL insults. Calling people faggot probably works on your fellow 3rd graders but to me you still just sound like an angry insecure little kid...... I guess I shoulda known better than to feed the trolls.

  • what a wonderfull story. it made me smile. great work peter, great work.

    with a lot of respect

    randy

  • This is a great Thing you are doing!! I'm a yank and this almost brought a tear to my eye.

  • sweet endeavor

  • This footage is taken from the film 'Perfect Lady' and is sold by me in DVD and the funds all go to keep this Spitfire, The Grace Spitfire flying. Search Grace Spitfire.

    Carolyn Grace

  • I hope you don't mind me posting it. I do tie to your website in the info box.

    Regards,

    Peter

  • Very nice work, brings a tear to my eye to see the ol gal in the air again. cheers

  • @gaxnw Ma'am, i was moved by this, you and your husband did a STELLAR job on this aeroplane

  • that was so beutifull thank you

  • Utterly wonderful - thanks for posting this.

  • Now that's a plane

  • I believe this spitfire used to be flown by irish air corps as a trainer, they are truly majestic and irreplaceable, great to see them still flying

  • the plane was truly his lifes work. rip buddy.

  • fantastic!

  • This Is Simply Beautiful

  • Wow, how very interesting. Where can we see the rest of this video?

  • fantastic. my best friend died in a spitfire replica that we spent 8 years building. This video brought back a lot of the good memories of that old spit. Loved it.

  • Excellent

  • great video

  • How wonderful...

  • A wonderful tribute.

  • Just perfect.

  • I'd love to be able to restore a Spitfire!! Own one even!! I think a flight would be good enough for me.
