i remember ages ago burning an old set top box with the lid off. but some metho on it and lit it up the caps went off like this. and sometimes one would go off and about 5 seconds later i would hear something landing on the carport or house roof. they must have took off like rockets.
@wisteela Its the same here in the usa they went to that digital switch and alot went out as trash when you just had to get a box to still watch them I guess people want that Hd stuff these days.
I have spent all night watching your videos, I am very jealous you get to play around with all this cool stuff, all very interesting! I used to love going to scrap yards as a kid and picking up old lawn-mower engines to try and repair or make go-karts with or electronic bits for silly projects. The house would be full of electric motors, washing machine pumps, gear assemblies from RC toys, parts of vacuum cleaners and old hi-fi speakers. You have a great workshop!I wish I was not now stuck in IT!
I just bought a very old NTK Candle 4" TV from 1966 (NTK=Nippon Transistor Ind Co. Ltd.) which has an HV problem- I traced it to a couple of bad caps on the deflection board and I should have it fixed in a week or so...
tv's are good, shame there are not any programs that are not full of wankers. i wouldn't call the radio environmentally neutral yet but it still makes for good viewing!
As much as I hate TV, I'm sad to see analogue TV dying, I'm so sick and tired of seeing people in my street throwing old CRT colour TV's onto the nature strip and replacing them with these LCD and Plasma crappy TV's that will only last a year before they break. I'm hanging onto my NEC for as long as I can, it's only 5 years old, but thank God it's a CRT. My family once had a little Philips TV like that one.
@Aussie50 Find an LCD tv/monitor and take it apart carefully. There are several plastic sheets in there that if you turn them, it turns black and silver. Also there are 2 really cool "cold cathode" bulbs in there you can use to make a mini BRIGHT drop light for your area. And a nice 10mm chopping board. Pretty cool. Any luck on the induction heater/melter/welder?
If you ever wanted to get a small induction heater, Ameritherm makes a couple models in the Easyheat (formerly Hotshot) line which run on single-phase power and put out 1.5 or 2.1kW depending on the model.
That thing just kept burning on its own without any help? Wow. They really shouldn't be allowed to make flammable plastic electronic junk like this. Wouldn't take much to start a house fire should something inside of it overheat.
Anyways it got what it deserved. Cheap flimsy piece of low-cost plastic crap. Probably sounded like junk too.
I have an old radio/CD player similar to the one you nuked in the microwave. I haven't the heart to kill it. It still works. Almost never use it, but it was a gift from a friend... so I keep it around.
can i have those 2 tvs?
