What people don't understand about planes like the F-22 is that it's basically a flying box when it comes to maneuverability. The F-22 possesses stealth technology, but once it's locked in a dogfight, there's really no comparison. From what I've seen, the Su-37 can fly circles around just about anything in the Western arsenal. Now, physics aside, just the way the Su-37 just looks, alone, would make me shit my pants if I saw one coming at me in the cockpit of any other plane.

@mauricioalfredo83 You don't know how radar works, do you? The radar cross section of the F-22 is about .0001 meters. That's damned hard to see from the front. Now, I will in no way counter your point about being faster, if by that you mean it's more agile. The Su-37 can pull maneuvers that leave it with an Angle of Attack of 180 degrees. However, it is not superior in every aspect. It's radar cross section is standard. Both planes would be destroyed by a single AAM, so it's not stronger either.

anyway bvr missiles can very easily be dodged. the kill ratio is about 10-40% since both f22 and suchois are very agile a bvr missile is not that important anyway.
in dogfight the f22 has a huge disadvantage because it has no head display which already been a problem against german mig29

@natsplit the f22s radar is an acative element electronically scanned, which means it doesnt move, it can change shape direction and size of the radar beam so it can acquire target data quickly and has less of a chance that the signal can be detected or tracked, it is the most advanced radar on the planet and has almost no mechanical parts
Stealth are for penetrating deep into enemy airspace. In a dogfight stealth does not count. Speed and maneuverability does and in that case Su-37 definitely has the advantage than F-22 Raptor. Su-37 have definitely baffled many fighter enthusiasts by its extraordinary speed and unreal maneuverability.

@JVC7400 The F-22 carries an internal armament out of necessity for the stealth. Not out of necessity for drag. They both have similar speed capabilities, but the Su-37 just *might* have a turn rate and maneuverability bonus going for it.
@Wellwellwellwell1 I know that, but what said was that a bonus-benefit was less drag. what a Su-35 does at an airshow is not possible with 12-14 missiles hanging from the wings... it is a very maneuverable plane, more than the F-22, but when it comes into a combat scenario, it might actually the same when turning, since the F-22 also uses thrust vectoring that in pitch. the only upper for the Sukhoi would be on the rolls. and yaw is waste of thrust.
@JVC7400 Yaw can let you turn around in order to acquire missile lock without having to perform a flip, or it can allow you to slide around a turn in order to increase turn rate as well. The Su-37 uses thrust vectoring as well, and it can perform Pugachev's Cobra, the Hebst maneuver, and several other advanced dogfighting maneuvers with a full armament.
@Wellwellwellwell1 The F-22 can also do the cobra, but about the yaw, like all kinds of thrust vectoring, it sacrifices alot of speed, if you want to turn instead of making a flip there is the rudders to do that.

And if you were to turn around, you would sacrifice a large amount of speed as well, however, the yaw reduces the time it takes to cancel out the X velocity, by providing a faster spin in order to put more thrust into pushing the plane towards the oncoming or fleeing opponent. So yes. It sacrifices speed. Faster than a normal turn.

If they can outmove rocketts they are a treath , otherwise they still have a problem to reach the targets , there are way more rocketts as planes and for sure Pilots ... so strenght comes in numbers or to be invisible , this is only a side step before going stealth as well .
@liciying Ok, the main difference: Su-27 is designed to enter enemy airspace and gain air-superiority. That means high combat persistance + good BVR and CAC capabilities. F-16 and MiG-29 are mainly ground alert interceptors. For Su vs MiG... At sea level, Su-27 has better turn rate and tighter turn radius at all speeds from 0 to roughly 850 km/h and same turn rates after 850. Su-27 has better energy regain rate. They use same IRST same HMS same missiles. Hows that makes MiG a better dogfighter?
@liciying Su-27SK is an export modification of Su-27. It's the same with a slightly worser radar system, and some other downgraded things, but the engines, maneuverability, speed, climb rate etc. are the SAME!
@JtGorospilicious No. Every maneuver one aircraft can do and other can't is an advantage (even harrier's vertical thrust proved that). Example: lets say againist an F-16, Su-27 is defending. Merge, double circle until hard deck, then scissors or barrel and bleed energy. If F-16 follows, there you are, both aircraft is at around 250 knots and ALL of these manuevers become an advantage. If not, doesnt matter, Su also has tremendous acceleration, climb and turn rate advantage.

MiG has the best (current world record) instantenious climb rate but Su has the best (also a world record) sustained climb rate. Su has better acceleration and 3 times higher combat persistance. 2-In Ethiopian-Eritian war, Su-27s faced MiG-29s, and result is 8 MiG-29 lost vs 0 Su-27 lost. 3-Su-27 was designed to be the pride of RuAF MiG-29 is the cheap numerous fighter.
The F-22A has a way better Radar than the SU-27, the SU-37 wasn't build in Series.
In World War II the T-34 was better than the Sherman, on the Paper. In the korean War, the Sherman was superior to the T-34. Also the US have much more active Jet's than Russia.

@mauricioalfredo83 You don't know how radar works, do you? The radar cross section of the F-22 is about .0001 meters. That's damned hard to see from the front. Now, I will in no way counter your point about being faster, if by that you mean it's more agile. The Su-37 can pull maneuvers that leave it with an Angle of Attack of 180 degrees. However, it is not superior in every aspect. It's radar cross section is standard. Both planes would be destroyed by a single AAM, so it's not stronger either.

So the F22 has no stealth advantage in air combat. Only against ground targets which are in VISUAL range.

@natsplit why, stealth means that military grade radars have trouble picking up stealth aircraft, and the only time a pilot would in theory be able to aquire a lock on an f22 is when its weapon bay doors open, and they only remain open for a second or two, the f22 has the most advanced radar on the planet, one f22 can operate as a mini awacs and its missiles , the aim120d has a range of over 130 miles, plus it has the smallest rcs of any plane in the world, their is nothing radar can even see

Russian fighters are issued with R-27P and R-27PE since 1970. These rockets don't lock at the radar signature but on the radar source.
So either the F22 leaves it's radar off and can not engaged any bvr targets, or it turns it's radar on an can be engaged too.

obviously u dont understand. even if the f22 has no rcs it can be shot with these missiles. they were originally developed to defeat awacs, which use a very similar radar compared with the f22.
anyway bvr missiles can very easily be dodged. the kill ratio is about 10-40% since both f22 and suchois are very agile a bvr missile is not that important anyway.
in dogfight the f22 has a huge disadvantage because it has no head display which already been a problem against german mig29

@natsplit the f22s radar is an acative element electronically scanned, which means it doesnt move, it can change shape direction and size of the radar beam so it can acquire target data quickly and has less of a chance that the signal can be detected or tracked, it is the most advanced radar on the planet and has almost no mechanical parts

Stealth are for penetrating deep into enemy airspace. In a dogfight stealth does not count. Speed and maneuverability does and in that case Su-37 definitely has the advantage than F-22 Raptor. Su-37 have definitely baffled many fighter enthusiasts by its extraordinary speed and unreal maneuverability.

@Wellwellwellwell1 I know that, but what said was that a bonus-benefit was less drag. what a Su-35 does at an airshow is not possible with 12-14 missiles hanging from the wings... it is a very maneuverable plane, more than the F-22, but when it comes into a combat scenario, it might actually the same when turning, since the F-22 also uses thrust vectoring that in pitch. the only upper for the Sukhoi would be on the rolls. and yaw is waste of thrust.

@JVC7400 Yaw can let you turn around in order to acquire missile lock without having to perform a flip, or it can allow you to slide around a turn in order to increase turn rate as well. The Su-37 uses thrust vectoring as well, and it can perform Pugachev's Cobra, the Hebst maneuver, and several other advanced dogfighting maneuvers with a full armament.

And if you were to turn around, you would sacrifice a large amount of speed as well, however, the yaw reduces the time it takes to cancel out the X velocity, by providing a faster spin in order to put more thrust into pushing the plane towards the oncoming or fleeing opponent. So yes. It sacrifices speed. Faster than a normal turn.

especially the Su-30mki (though only 2D nozzles - also opposite up-down) they would often stall in dogfights with F-15 and F-16. in sustained vectored thrust turns. where the F-15 and F-16 could out climb then dive with guns and "drill their brains out" as USAF Col. Terrence Fornof said it.

The main difference is:
Su27: Heavy, long-ranged jet fighter. Its supposed to destroy an enemy before it can be seen by eyes.

F-16 and MiG-29 are mainly ground alert interceptors. For Su vs MiG... At sea level, Su-27 has better turn rate and tighter turn radius at all speeds from 0 to roughly 850 km/h and same turn rates after 850. Su-27 has better energy regain rate. They use same IRST same HMS same missiles. Hows that makes MiG a better dogfighter?

@JtGorospilicious No. Every maneuver one aircraft can do and other can't is an advantage (even harrier's vertical thrust proved that). Example: lets say againist an F-16, Su-27 is defending. Merge, double circle until hard deck, then scissors or barrel and bleed energy. If F-16 follows, there you are, both aircraft is at around 250 knots and ALL of these manuevers become an advantage. If not, doesnt matter, Su also has tremendous acceleration, climb and turn rate advantage.

MiG has the best (current world record) instantenious climb rate but Su has the best (also a world record) sustained climb rate. Su has better acceleration and 3 times higher combat persistance. 2-In Ethiopian-Eritian war, Su-27s faced MiG-29s, and result is 8 MiG-29 lost vs 0 Su-27 lost. 3-Su-27 was designed to be the pride of RuAF MiG-29 is the cheap numerous fighter.

The F-22A has a way better Radar than the SU-27, the SU-37 wasn't build in Series.
In World War II the T-34 was better than the Sherman, on the Paper. In the korean War, the Sherman was superior to the T-34. Also the US have much more active Jet's than Russia.
