I'm afraid you might have been the only 'spectator' who got offended with this demo. As for accidents, as far as I know, nothing to declare.
I would actually feel a lot safer on a plane with a pilot that has done this. This is an added bonus on his experience and I'm sure if it was unsafe they wouldn't repeat.
I'd also urge you to double check the double negatives as I'm sure you meant "lack of respect".
Folks THIS is an air show... air SHOW. Do you yell at elephants for dancing in the middle of the circus? Do you yell at monster trucks? Get lives. These are professionals. This is BAD ASS
The pilot got EXTREMELY lucky !!! very very dumb move when he banked the airplane and the tip of the wing passed 3 feet from the ground. People, the pilot exposed his life and many other lives at this pass. Yes, I am a pilot and have many thousands of hours flying heavy airplanes.
wren460, I agree; in addition he was at the same time very low AND VERY SLOW, so he had no margin of any sort for any contingency; I even think this is what made him bank and descend more than he expected (he surely didn't plan to pass with wing tip at 3ft from ground!) - which he will certainly never acknowledge!

actually the pilot was the main airbus test pilot and his co pilot was a qualified captain who gave him constant updates on the altitude AND the aircraft went through an overhaul before the airshow so risk of failures was minimum
simple really ,the pilot is confident in himself and the machine.....=good flypast and no problems..other than people on the ground that like to think they know more than they do
ATFSCrash,i probably speak and write better english than you,so dont worry about correcting me.
You seem to know a great deal of things about piloting, airplane safety measures and that kind of things. Let me just tell you that TAP is THE most safe airline company in the world, with only one accident with fatalities. Our pilotes are being recruted to all the major airlines in the world... Even military pilots. We truly have some of the finest pilots in the world.
If it would be the most Safe airline in the world, the had a record with no accidents includings fatalities like Australias Qantas, Germany's LTU and so an, and so on.
i think you meant "they had..." You are probably right. but if you go check it out tap is not measurable with those airlines in terms of flights, and passangers, therefore not even comparable. i did not say they were something extraordinary. they are above average,in all aspects i think. Greetings
The same counts for the mentioned airlines as well. One accident with fatalities is more than no accident during daily operation at all, as simple as that.
My dear fellow. you are supposed to comment on the video and not to insult people around here. If you don't like it, say it, but careful with your language. Regards
JbOxRh, it's unfortunate that you posted this right after my post of Sat 29 Sep 2007 22:24 GMT, without clearly telling if your "incredibly stupid" targeted myself (or Bud Holland?). So readers will have to guess - and may conclude on none of those 2 but on yourself...
I recall that there is little difference between a daring pilot BEFORE and AFTER his nearly inevitable fatal accident; hence, let's be more STERN to daring pilots BEFORE their accident (like César Brito), and more FORGIVING to them AFTER they had it (like Bud Holland).
It's dramatic to witness here the "Mishap of an A310 at ..." in the making: a lot of reactions above are exactly the same reckless ones that prevented to see, admit, and correct Bud Holland's doomed behavior *before* he crashed.
I warmly call everyone here to stop angry discussions, calm down, watch and read carefully and entirely ATFSCrash's excellent work in watch?v=YQa4PpIkOZU and follow his very instructive selected links.
Bud Holland's flights were also planned, pre-approved (by himself as chief pilot, and by his bosses), and performed in air shows and pre-shows. Please before commenting, read the Tony Kern and Wikipedia reports that ATFSCrash pointed.
This pilot is an idiot who should have his licence revoked. Despite the 'still' windsock the sky shows that the airmass is basiclly unstable and the only difference between a successful demo and an disastrous acident would have been gust of wind from behind or a thermal source under his right wing.
I think your knowledge on aviation is as good as my grand grand mother`s. THIS PILOT IS GOOD. He managed to use his brains and his balls all together, that made MANY people envy.
I happily withdraw the idiot word and replace it with "an unessecary risk to the public".
In response to augustwater, I would point out that I was a chief flying Instructor and have flown everything fom fast jets to gliders. I have also performed at airshows. Your grandmother must be very knowledgeable.

Shut the fuck Up! "ATFSCrash" go fuck your self, you are boring... and "AnthonyJSoprano" the reason that we have to build a new airport is not "Dangerous", but because the airport already have depleted his capacity, the Lisbon airport is Safe and recommendable... Don't talk about things you don't know...
why don't you shut the f up! After reading all the posts, I have to say ATFCrash is the only one who knows what he's talking about. You and your pilots are morons.
That is why I believe so much on these pilots. TAP is one of the best air companies ever! I loved to see this short video because I hadn't the chance to watch it on tv. Thanks a lot! It is awesome and very scary too since we're talking about an Airbus and not another "type" of plane... TAP 4ever!
If this is the best pilots that the TAP has, then all of the TAP pilots should have their licenses permanently revoked and TAP should be prosecuted for endangering the lives of the spectators. I think this airshow staff should be barred from ever giving an air show. To think that all the airshow officials allowed such recklessness is unfathomable. To think of the airlines and airshow coordinators are still standing behind such disregard for safety is unfathomable.
Due to security issues, I think that Cristovao Colombo should have turned back when is was on route to America. I bet he's crew and all native americans woulded agree with me ;)
Appraising the danger vs the usefulness of something is all about weighting and judgment. Sailing to "India" in 1492 while risky was less so than useful; risky stunts in air shows often are too, but often aren't, and safety rules are here to draw the limit; here Cap. César Brito obviously not only blatantly broke these rules but passed all limits of reasonability.
First of all, he made all the flight maneuvers in areas without spectators!! There is only one clip where the plane flye's over some spectators located in a public road, outside the airfield in quite the same way that they (plane spotters) are in almost any airport in the world. The nearest distance between plane and spectators was between 300 to 350 meters when he made the low pass, parallel to the runway! So tell me, where was the danger?
ATFSCrash has a very good point, it's dangerous, but people still gather to see the airshows, they are well aware that things can go wrong and tend to go wrong when pushed to the limit...
However I don't think thats a problem, it's a stunt, it's supposed to be dangerous
I dont care about bud holland and I dont think any of these guys ever heard about him, so there are no wannabes here
anthonyjsoprano do us a favour and stop murdering the english language, your english is atrocious
I can sure you that wasn´t close! The plains in Lisbon airport have to made more dangerous flight than that! Because the airport is inside the city! And have lots of traffic!
It's not the airport who's inside the city... it's the city who grew to the airport. Leave the airport alone and demolish the buildings. We need another bridge over the Tagus, not another stupid airport.
AnthonyJSoprano "It´s normal! I have seen this thing 3 times!! In another country!"
It might be normal to you, if you're used to watching people that are careless enough to disregard international air show standards. If you still think flying like this is acceptable after seeing all the Russian airshow crashes and the B-52 mishap, it makes me think you are sociopath
AnthonyJSoprano "You don´t know them! I know! that was controlled!"
I obviously know more about safety, and airshow safety then you. You don't even grasp or respect some of the basic airshow precautions. You act as if this type of routine is normal, if it is normal for you, then that just shows that you and the people you hang out with have much lower standards they and the international regulations or me. You have repeatedly discredited yourself with your statements.
AnthonyJSoprano "Ahahahahaha!! What? you are aeronautics engineer!!"
I obviously know more than you. Your own comments have proven your lack of knowledge and respect for airshow safety. If you bothered to look at the video I posted or my other videos or profile, you would know I am far more knowledgeable on the subject than the average person. ;) You have made a fool of yourself.
There is some danger to all air shows, however that is no reason to be reckless and to unnecessarily exponentially increase the danger. With the proper safety precautions, and airshow can be much safer than the recklessness that is exhibited in this airshow, TAP, and its pilots.
AnthonyJSoprano "I ask you again. Are you aeronautics engineer or a pilot or a simple teen that like´s about plains?"
You have already proven your ignorance and I have no desire to flaunt my credentials to you, I am your senior in many ways. You're the one that is acting like a little kid, you can't even spell "plane".
Words that give me déjà vu. Great, you can have the honor of engraving that on their tombstones after they crash. You might as well make a tombstone with the same engraving for Bud Holland and his crew and the Russian, since people said the same thing about them, when they were criticized. Bud took some of the men that offered him constructive criticism, to their graves. The Russian took some of the audience with him
In shows that properly enforce safety: The aircraft are parked to close to the flight path. The pilot did not leave enough margin for error. There seems to be too many unnecessary personnel inside the show line. The show line seems to be too close. The Airbus seem to overfly spectators too lowly while maneuvering, ect......
AnthonyJSoprano "ATFSCrash you don´t know the training of this pilots!
You know TAP? This is an AIRBUS not a Boeing"
Bud Holland was a pro too and made these guys look like monkeys. Him and his crew are dead and millions of taxpayer dollars lost. The A310 pilot at the Portugal Air show broke the international air show rules, I don't know if Portugal is obligated. Flying like this near and over spectators is unprofessional, reckless, unsafe and crazy.
Stick a finger in your ass, you always saying the same thing, know one cares about you and that "Bud Holland", if he was good her name would be: "Good Holland", lol... Make a favor to the world and even to you, kill your self!!
Well you have a point, the aircraft would be more expendable since it is an Airbus (j/k). However there still is the matter of life and limb and a great deal of money. If you don't learn from mistakes, you are doomed to repeat them.
I wish I was there

AnthonyJSoprano "It was not close of the spectators" "I can sure you that wasn´t close! "
You even posted a video comments on a video that showed a very low overflight over spectators while the plane was maneuvering.
Simple analysis of the geometry in this video proves you wrong.

AnthonyJSoprano "What he did wrong?"

Bud Holland died at an air show. TAM should change their name to "Team Kamikaze"

I think the TAP A310 pilot is another Bud Holland wanabe. I would ground and not let him fly unless his attitude on safety improves.
I think the crew and air show authorities should have to watch my video and study the B-52 at Fairchild Air Force Base mishap.
