Recording a DJ mix with computer

hey man i've got two problems, one is that whenever i'm recording something, i can hear myself (like pressing the start/stop button on my turntable), number two is that the sound quality is really bad and the bass sounds distorted, (i've followed this video very closely, and i've play around with it for a while but nothing seems to work. Has anyone experienced this bug in the Mac version of Audacity? I use version 1.25 (it's stable now) but when it comes to saving the file, typing some characters into your filename still activates the hotkeys.

So if I press the spacebar the sound starts to play in the background or worse press 'r' and it starts recording over your sound while the save file window is open. Meaning I cannot name any file with the letter 'r' in Audacity and need to re-name it afterwards.

Im not sure if i am doing this right I coming out of my mixer into the computer microphone jack i go into audacity but the sound is awful im not sure what is worng you can hear it but it sounds really bad .... Im not sure if the fact that i am using my own computer mix and record ... what do u think i should do?

@ElDJBarr hi don't use microphone jack. Try get a PC with sound card you will have good sound

I got a quick question:

Did you change anything under Audio MIDI Setup?

Because under Audio MIDI Setup > Audio Devices, my source is "Internal Microphone" and it records with my microphone instead of the RCA and 1/4 inch jack.

And it does not let me change the "Internal Microphone" to Line In

Hey there! I have a Denon Dn-s1000. I use my laptop as my second player.when i try to record my mixes the sounds that play from the laptop are very low quality comparing with the sounds from my denon player.i use the Cool Edit Pro software for recording .think i will do better with audacity? i'd be grateful for any other advice

i dont really use the gain for the red bars.. i plug the red and white cables into the booth section on the mixer and theres a knob on there to control the volume for the mix lol.. ;D

hey i tried doing it on mac with audacity and i just gave up its too fuckin annoying...i hate macs...so i went back to my PC and the only thing holding me back from recording my DJ sets is that when i record it seems that its way too loud recording, i put my gain knobs all the way down to a mute and i hear it clearly now at a good quality & volume. but when i playback a recording sample it still plays it super loud and over-bassy. do you know what im doing wrong?? please help me out?? frustrated

why wouldn't you record it in Audacity, then import to movie maker. Thats what I reccommend.

Shiizzzz, you're recording in 32 bit float..... no wonder that crashes your Powerbook. Definitely high qualz sound though.

Yes, one can change that under the quality tab. If you are using cds or mp3 files only, all you need is 16-bit sample format.
