This is legal in Europe. It passed the Euro safety and quality tests! Did you check the crash tests? There are tata nano crash tests on youtube and pictures online.

The Nano Europa will be more expensive, heavier, and less fuel efficient than the standard Nano with prices said to be US$6000-7000. The Indian version was too unsafe for Europe.
I read that they have aborted their plans with the tata nano europa. But they are going to release the tata pixel there which is going to pretty cheap and more fuel efficient than the nano with more features like tata Pixel connect. I actually have 3 videos of it on my channel if you see it.

The Tata Nano was not made illegal so that Ford employees could keep their jobs. It is illegal because it does not meet safety standards put in place by the US government. I would prefer the safety standards to be lower so we can get cars cheaper, faster, and with better gas mileage (the cars would have these things with less safety equipment), but safety is important too (although I wish the government would leave the decision of how important it is to the people).

I'm not really understanding all the environmental doom-sayers...The way I see it, if this could displace hundreds of thousands, or even millions of motorcycles, scooters, cheap 15MPG cars and autorickshaws (however you spell that, lol) it would be a huge plus for the environment, as its emissions are far lower (lower than any current Volkswagon, in fact). Yes, millions of these on the road would emit lots of CO2, but if you think about what it replaces, its a better alternative.
To every confused soul - this is not for the European motorway or the US Freeway. The top speed is rev-limited to 120 KPh (75Mph). It's to be used for a city run-about, or rural roads, not-intercity transport. The commute system in India isn't set up like the western world, with extensive use of motor/free-ways. This was designed to bring comfortable, safe motoring to a family of four in a specific market, with very specific conditions. And, it achieved everything it set-out to do.

The Indian brands are much more inovative and safe as well. The Mahindra ute scored 3 stars in frontal collision tests. I believe Tata Nano scored 4 stars

This car is not aimed at the US market, it is aimed at emerging economies like India, China, Rusia and Brazil in which millions of people are getting out of poverty and entering the middle class. @ruedaricardo Word is Tata wants to bring it to the states, once they beef it up a little (8" longer to adhere to our crash tests, slap in some air bags, work on the seat comfort, etc, etc). Word is not necessarily when, but if. Now I like small cars, but I'm not so sure I'd like that. I'm looking forward to the Fiat 500 myself.

ITS A CAR NONE THE LESS. A STABLE PLATFORM, UNLIKE A MOTORCYCLE (WHICH MOST OF INDIA USES FOR TRANSPORT) THAT WILL GET YOU FROM POINT A TO B. people ride motorcycle, scooters and mopeds but they say this car is unsafe. its a car to ride for errands, taking care of 80% of your driving needs. If used within its capabilitIes, youre gonna be fine. HECK, YOU CAN DRIVE A VOLVO AND IF YOU DONT HAVE LUCK ON YOUR SIDE YOU'D STILL DIE IN A CRASH. Its so annoying to hear people, ESPECIALLY GROWN MEN, nagging and complaining about the details. During my bangkok trip, ive seen a chinese blackberry immitation that does everything my original blackberry can do, for a mere 40 dollars. i bought one for fun and the damn thing still works fine. americans and europeans dont know these things unless they get to travel asia. The Tata Nano was not made illegal so that Ford employees could keep their jobs. It is illegal because it does not meet safety standards put in place by the US government. I would prefer the safety standards to be lower so we can get cars cheaper, faster, and with better gas mileage (the cars would have these things with less safety equipment), but safety is important too (although I wish the government would leave the decision of how important it is to the people).

I love this car! Imagine a future where you don't have to spend every penny you make at work on car insurance, car loan, rent, etc. Your average joe will actually be able to live a decent life without being saddled by debt.
My only complaint is the way it looks and handles! I would prefer a $2500 gocart esq vehicle with better performance, maybe a 2 seater or something. il y a 1 mois

I'm not really understanding all the environmental doom-sayers...The way I see it, if this could displace hundreds of thousands, or even millions of motorcycles, scooters, cheap 15MPG cars and autorickshaws (however you spell that, lol) it would be a huge plus for the environment, as its emissions are far lower (lower than any current Volkswagon, in fact). Yes, millions of these on the road would emit lots of CO2, but if you think about what it replaces, its a better alternative.

To every confused soul - this is not for the European motorway or the US Freeway. The top speed is rev-limited to 120 KPh (75Mph). It's to be used for a city run-about, or rural roads, not-intercity transport. The commute system in India isn't set up like the western world, with extensive use of motor/free-ways. This was designed to bring comfortable, safe motoring to a family of four in a specific market, with very specific conditions. And, it achieved everything it set-out to do.

Take a look at the Geely Rolls Royce sorry I meant the Geely GE :). I think for this reason I'm beginning to admire the Indian car industry over the Chinese. The Indian brands are much more inovative and safe as well. The Mahindra ute scored 3 stars in frontal collision tests. I believe Tata Nano scored 4 stars

I was once watching this show on discovery channel on how chinese mechanics go to google and search for blueprints on images and they print out whatever they find and produce and sell them in the foreign market.

Oh God, this people from the US are simply unbelievable. This car is not aimed at the US market, it is aimed at emerging economies like India, China, Rusia and Brazil in which millions of people are getting out of poverty and entering the middle class. Keep your F-150 and the rest of the gas guzzlers. The rest of the world luckily don't have and won't have those consumption patterns.

@ruedaricardo Word is Tata wants to bring it to the states, once they beef it up a little (8" longer to adhere to our crash tests, slap in some air bags, work on the seat comfort, etc, etc). Word is not necessarily when, but if. Now I like small cars, but I'm not so sure I'd like that. I'm looking forward to the Fiat 500 myself.

china and brazil specifically, since i think those 2 nations are already big competitors in the auto industry. obviously, those countries want to promote theirs first.
besides, like you said, i think the more middle class these markets have, the more likely they are going to buy a much better brand than tata.

What you don't know is that
A basic Honda Civic that costs $15,000 in US has no A/C too. but has one in the deluxe versions.
Similarly applies to Nano too, Pay some extra $300 he'll give you A/C. if you also need Power Windows and Audio System pay another $300- $400.
