Call me nerdy but part of the charm of flying SIA is listening to the announcements the Flight Attendants make in their Chinese-Malay-Oxford English accent, even when they make mistakes. In the US, many of our Flight Attendants are so fed up and embittered about being stuck at their jobs that they don't even bother to extend little niceties like giving the local date and time. Further, many of the routine announcements are now done on DVD, impersonalizing the flight experience even further.
Yea, but it gets irritating during an overnight flight where turbulence occur, the FA will come on the PA telling pax to return to their seats and fasten their seatbelts, It happened like thrice on SQ285!
I can certainly understand your irritation. Unfortunately, a safety related PA like that is required by the FAA in the US, and I dare say, also required by international carriers flying under ICAO or IATA rules. The only way to avoid annoying announcements on a long overnight flight like that is to turn on the Fasten Seatbelt sign and keep it on all night. That way the PA would only be made once, when the sign is first turned on. This is impractical however and no one would ever follow it.
