I recommend KDE - with compiz if you want.

The Linux GUIs that are going their own ways tend to be extremely lightweight, and more conductive to a speedy workflow than to 'looking good'. If you want a bloated and slow GUI, but hate KDE and Gnome, it's probably best to stick with Windows or Mac.
