@countryjazzjohnny you are right johnny. Donna Faye is from Lexington, KY and also sang backup and did some duets with David Frizzell and Shelley West at one time in David's Band. - Paula
@sirnippalot -- You are so right. This music is beautiful. It uses simple chords and melodies, nothing flashy, and it's very heartfelt and sincere. It seems like most of the younger singers are using gimmicks, or trying to sound like rock and roll. There are a few who try to keep the old sound going, but way too few. I am amazed, really amazed, that guys like Geo. Jones and Haggard aren't given more air time. It's like if Beethoven was alive and folks didn't listen because "he's too old."
Hi Dennis I remember when at the Stage Coach. Enjoyed it so much when u sat in with the band. What are you doing now? Just curious you dont have to rememer me I just want you to know I remembered you
There will never be another Merle. He sounds as good today as he did back when he started out making records. We saw his original show here on PBS back around 1984 or around that time anyway. Wonderful music by everyone.
Dennis you and Biff made one hell of a rhythm section... the thanks needs to go to you. By the way, didn't your son fill in for Biff while he was ill?
i guess that makes sense.i always loved the full sound you got out of that fender bass.did you use two tens and an eighteen? also i love roy nichols god rest his soul.i play old fenders and can play bout any lick roy ever played.not bragging just loved the man roy
Merle is a very good guitar player. His lead work doesn't compair with Roy, Redd, Joe or Clint but he doesn't have to play their parts he plays from his soul. BTW I love the way plays rhythm. Merle plays fiddle too, but he'll be the first to tell you he's no Johnny Gimble. He's an entertainer and his fans love to see him take a solo every now and then.
Is that Roy Nichols sitting down with the white beard? I know he got old and had health issues, don't know if that's him or not. If it is and that was a silverburst I think I'd pass out.
On his CHICAGO WIND album Merle remade the Marty Robbins title track to the film HONKYTONK MAN. Both Clint and Merle share dust bowl era roots. When one of Clint's (many) children was born the first person to arrive at the hospital was Merle. Duvall certainly could portray the older Hag. Duvall appeared with Clint in JOE KIDD. Duvall also previously portrayed a country singer in TENDER MERCIES. mb2bennett that was a stroke of genius! Maybe together we can get this picture made!
merle has done things his way. he is fearless and un- compromising. merle has never been concerned with trends or fashions. he takes a stand and stands his ground. he is a living legend...the greatest singer-songwriter in the history of country music. clint eastwood should direct a bio-pic on his old friend's life. merle lived his songs.
While Bonnie Owens had the longest tenure with Merle, this video shows Leona Williams singing backup. The video therefore must date from per 1984 since that was when she and Merle divorced. She wrote some of Merle's hits from 1978-1984 like "Someday when Things Are Good" and "You Take Me For Granted". She also sang backup on "The Way I AM" and "Big City". She often gets overlooked.
Is Austin City Limits the title of this song, I thought it's "There's a Pair of Blue Eyes Waiting for Me"
