I worked with a guy that grew up in Texas and actually knew Dime Bag. He said that Dime Bag was probably the nicest guy you'd want to meet. He said that Vinnie Paul was really nice too, but Dime Bag was everyone's pal. Metal bands seem to be more real than these pop groups who just want to play their music like they are saying "Look at me, I was made fun of in school, now look at me!" @rob3rt361 Well, the interview came after the whole "Phil Anselmo was a heroin addict in the 1990s" thing and the breakup of Pantera. The "Dimebag should be beaten severely" comment was an off-the-cuff comment. But, yeah, if I was in Rita's shoes, I wouldn't have wanted Phil there either.

they caught phil at the wrong moment. he had a lot going on at the time. keep in mind also that the interview was probably six years ago. while vinnie still won't talk to him, he and rita have reconciled.

@iluvroknrol93 Actually the BTM interview happened months after Dimebag was killed.Yes Vinnie still won't talk to him because he works for the same magazine company Revolver which also happens to be the same mag where he granted that interview to a reporter in which he trashed both Dime and Vinnie,after he did that the people at Revolver gave him the interview tapes to listen to.

@iluvroknrol93 That's not the reason,Phil did an interview for Revolver magazine and said that he was only focused on his two bands Superjoint Ritual and Down.He also said that there were communication problems within Pantera and said that the only member of Pantera that he was really cool with was Rex.What really set the feud off was when he said "Dimebag needs to be beaten severly" later he denied ever saying this.

actually, it was in this very interview that he said it was "tongue-in-cheek." (try part 4) most recently, he said that he had a lot going on and the media took advantage of that and then he said what he said.

@blodachia it is well documented that Phil Anselmo has been a loudmouth idiot on many occasions, whether drugs or alcohol played a part in loosening inhibitions towards his actual character is a debatable point. Apart from distancing himself from Pantera because of his drug use and saying 'Dimebag needs to be beaten severely', Phil also made some very racist comments at a show in Montreal. He basically invited a bunch of neo-nazis to call Pantera a white-power band, a fucking idiot
