You gotta take off your mask to call out to your fielders and line them up, otherwise your voice might be muffled. The mask is to protect you from pitchers, but when the ball isn't being pitched you'll see the catchers taking off their masks as often as possible. The runner was out because the catcher held on to the ball. Great play... good baserunning and a great job of holding on by the catcher.

It depends on what kind of mask you have, but most will. I'm not just making this up. There is a long way between the catcher and the fielders that have their backs turned to you and a lot of other noise coming from the dugouts, the field, and the crowd, the catcher needs to be as loud as possible.

This is a wake up call to MLB to quickly require catchers better safety gear to protect their heads and necks. Perhaps a hockey goalie-type headgear would help preventable injuries or perhaps save a life.

These plays at home are impacts equal to a head on with a concrete wall.

MLB, get it together and do something, anything, to protect these guys. It's not like a helmet would really cut into your profits that much....

i broke up a double play with a slide into second (the shortstop went airborne) and not only was i out, they called the runner who went to first out as well...

then i got ejected cause the opposing coach threw a fit that i couldve hurt his player.
