1962 Dances at the San Mateo Boys Club...I was13 years old and starting to seriously realize the difference between boys and girls. I remember this song and brings back some great memories....

In the original Hairspray you can see them dancing The Dog during this song. We got thrown out of my high school prom for doing that dance.

I've always loved this song. and I still have the original 45 rpm record from when this original song came out, about 1961. That was before most of us even knew who Ike & Tina Turner were. They went by the name of "the Ike & Tina Turner Revue" at one point, but I think they changed the name to "The Ikettes" when they added backup singers.

I heard this song for the first time in the original Hairspray movie with Ricki Lake. I've never heard it on oldies radio. It's even tough to find on CD. iTunes has it, though.
