why dont the communities come together and clean all the shit up, in england the resident wud be out there with a brush doing it themselves, i often see people actually clean the footpaths, were is the self respect, jeeezzzz
Reduce taxes, freeze government spending, stop forced unions and crazed regulations that restrict work. Stop the class warfare so the country can move forward with success.
America is dying, it is like a cancer. Big business uses up one city abandons it and moves on. GM did this to the North and moved to the South then to other countries. The abandoned the people who gave their lives to the company. When they abandoned the City they left behind pollution as well, and tax payers even paid to clean the property left behind
Now every city is beginning to to experience to feel the same pains as Big Biz moves American jobs elsewhere and seen the entire country will have places just like Detroit and other communities. Simple facts just watch and see...bring back American jobs by repealing the same laws that stole them
First i thought you might got it but you don't because you still have captialism in your mind. And globalisation and industrial revolution (you simply don't need this amount of workers to produce goods and food anymore) killed capitalism. We need a new non capitalistic and non resource wasting new economy.
Otherway not only the poor but the planet earth is doomed. Wait for peak oil, when running out of cheap oil (say > $250 barrel) you will see more collapse.
Obama is a de facto believer in the free market as well. It was actually Bill Clinton who passed NAFTA and repealed glass-steagall (along with Lawrence Summers), which lead directly to the financial meltdown. Not saying that Reagan or Bush did anything to help Detroit, but there is more than enough political blame to pass around for both major parties involved.
If these shells were sitting in Phoenix, Arizona during the 1990's, people would have fallen all over themselves to buy them and completely rebuild them. The entire downtown area was rehabbed in about 20 years, slowly, by new gentry. Detroit has no jobs, no sunshine, and hardcore crime. These beauties are going to have to be demolished.... it's sad.
I saw a lot of this on the old Animal Cops Detroit show on Animal Planet. The show stopped being filmed about 4 or so years ago.I imagine things look worse now for those shelter investigators now.
I would rather see home renovation loans being given out, than bulldozing. Keeps the property maintained and even improved. Maybe things would get better in time, so that loans don't go bad before that. And it helps the community with funds influx. But the money goes to the rich, not the needy. If that continues the nation is as doomed as this looks. (burnouts and collapseds exist all over. fence them off. they eventually get replaced).
@videoportfolio:I watched your view of what you think of Detroit and more importantly what you want to show the world.....Detroit is a blue collar city...that had generations of people that worked in the automotive industry....once the economy took a fall....the city was hit hard...I know it's easy to kick someone when there're down....down is one thing but Detroit is not out for the count...it's a tough town filled with tough hard working people....it will take time...Detroit will survive!!...
Detroit neighborhoods could be rebuilt by people willing to take a chance and rebuild them, but the problem is lowlife thugs threatening to burn your house down when you leave to go to work, or maybe while you are in it. it isn't bloodsucking banks or globalist corporations that did this to detroit!
like Chris Rock says, when he is at the ATM at night, he doesn't worry about the media walking up behind him.
I miss the old Detroit Animal Cops. Its no longer being filmed by Animal Planet. They showed a lot of the city like this.I like the older brick homes with the sloped roofs and the rounded front doors. Its just sad to see.I hope Detroit can make a comeback someday when the US starts getting too full and new business moves in.
Good bye American middle class. This is what you get when you put corporations and big oil in charge, in stead of the people like in decent countries.
You can't just plow it down and turn it to farmland, there are too many contaminants. An idea that simple is VERY expensive, if Detroit had that kind of money it wouldn't look like this to begin with.
Its funny that our stupid govenment and these piece of shit celebritys that encourage everyone to send billions in aid to stupid hatians that absolutley contribute nothing to this country nor to the world and yet can't do a goddamn thing for people in this very country just as bad off.
I am very humbled when I see the state urban detroit is in. My thoughts are comparative to scripture when I try to figure what could have affected Detroit to become such a tired city. When you read the bible you can gather a typical pattern. When leadership is corrupt... the city is destroyed. When the inhabitants are evil and commit evils with little or no righteousness left...... the people are destroyed.
With no hope of a stable economy, this is only going to get worse... And at a faster rate than before. I say urban farming is the answer. Change for the better is not in Detroit's vocabulary though.
I am over 40 - the speed of the video is meant to encapsulate the enormity of the problem, methinks. Plus you could visit the author's website - google "detroitfunk" if you want to scope more urban decline than you could have ever thought possible - the OP is a genius, IMHO...
nicely done. But much of this housing was considered temporary for factories workers flooding in from the entire world. Many had daily delivered water and outhouses for there was no utilities in 41 neighborhoods. which is classified as 4 blks to as large as 80. Shocking. and they often had crummy retrofitted baths, yuk! Many didn't wait til the 1974 Federal Fair Housing Law or Mayor Young to blame, they moved to Dearborn as soon as they could in the '50s.
This is not temporary housing, these are neighborhoods that my parents and my wifes parents and many people we know grew up in. These are places where people lived and raised families for generations. Some of the houses in these neighborhoods were built by my grandfather and by my wifes grandfather.
@tkdhannahk so what stfu we dont care about ya'll not livin around us and dont want yall neither! ya'll wait til that man( coleman young) to die to start talkin bad about him fuck ya'll dont get mad because he was'nt havin that shit from whites plain and simple! you can kiss my ass and his you ignorant prick!
Large - very large - portions of the city have already been bulldozed. But that hasn't fixed much. It has created a lot of open green space that might be used for future development if the corrupt city government is replaced by outsiders with a business sense.
u can get a well maintained house in Detroit for around $500. Mind u its in a terrible neighbourhood, and probably only worth it if you're looking to establish a cocaine production company.

The people that live in that city have been voting in crooks into office for 40 years.

The blacks of Detroit are racist, and have reaped every bit of what they've sowed.
