One of the things I liked about Guru, was that even though he was monotone and calm, his voice projected a lot stronger and more clearly than some rappers who scream on the mic.
Have you heard? KRS ONE has taken what Guru said Literally "My religion is rap" Read a report that he's now made Hip Hop a religion the guys gone mad haha
gurus voice was so monotone...he was the perfect compliment to premos beats because he doesnt overpower the beat but still spits great substance. Guru most underrated rapper ever. RIP
Yeah thumb that shit down, getting sick and tired of you retards, i barely listen to tv/radio and still i hear about these supposedly bad artists, I NEVER HEARD THAT SHIT, AINT TO HARD!!!!
@ttone96 wow. that pisses me off... when you already have amazing skills at skating and you make loads of money... why do you NEED to rap... it should be for the love of real hip hop... Guru's probably flippin in his grave... I know man... mad people contact me to spit on my beats and some are only like 14-15... and I have repsect that they like good real hip hop... but they sound like little kids compared to how old I am... thats why this Guru joint is good... let heads know whats up! peace
To not curse is to be more lyrically literal, but to curse is to me emotionally literal, we use words and sounds to communicate period, so a curse word is more impulsive and instantaeous than processing emotion in a more logically sound manner which makes you feel more comfortable...Before words came sound and shit and fuck is just a quick form of expression, I call it cave man wit..lol
@MaeScott1son true cursing can be emotional but cats are using them to keep a consistent flow. when you start cursing in most of your lines you start to not say anything but sound like a "caveman" or a preteen whose parents aint around. GURU was an artist that could be emotional and lyrical AND radio friendly (tho only a few of his songs got airplay) which is a hard combo to do. i mean sometimes a f*ck or sh*t would make your line fit on beat better but why lose the creativity?
@itsdbkyall What do you think the cursing is implying about the words of the speaker in a point in time???? And why do you as an individual feel the way you do about the words soken as opposed to a conditioned creative formula meant to imitate the reality of true essence of the creative state???
@MaeScott1son i have no problem with curses or swears or obscenities at all. but as an artist and amateur lyricist i feel those who swear in every or near every line in a verse dont have a mastery of vocab or varied delivery that makes a great poet/lyricist. at the same time someone like eminem who does swear alot and in most of his verses is still a poet IMO since he has a aggressive persona but still has a deep vocab and mastery of sonics and slant rhyme. As opposed to all these crack rap acts
everyone has varying degrees of intelligence, it is called evolution, your "crack rap" is a survivalist act and eminem just utilizes a different vocabulary but he is nonetheless a survivalist even with an extensive vocabulary...And he is no different or more or less talented than the next rapper whether it be Mike Jones, Luda, Hova, Gucci, 50, Zion I, KRS, Talib, Madlib, RickRoss, or Mae Scott,..Your taste is your taste and it suits who YOU are. So maybe you and Em have something in common...
@MaeScott1son i still think you can say eminem is more talented in terms of lyrical skills then some other rappers. A big vocabulary is a sign of intelligence..Then again intelligence is a broad thing..other people sell a lot over their image, i would say they probably do have less talent when it comes to putting words together, but they may have a personality that attracts other people emotionally because they can relate/look up to them.
from cave man to lyrical man is the e-v-o-l-u-t-i-o-n of man but to creatively bridge the gap of expression and creative expression isnt creative intelligence, it is simply throwing a form or imitation in to a fusion of literal and emotional expression that is a n acceptable marketed form of capitalistic creativity. But your ancestors were pure expressionists...remember that...to keep it real is to speak from your evolutionary mind state or communicate the evolutionary mind state of others
--or about others...to fuse it is to sell it in a more acceptable manner that shows technical capitalistic creative evolution..differing degrees of the whole which are integrated for today... Love and peace my love
if nas was on this like he was on the intro off this album....it would of been an ILLER track. DO NOT GET ME WRONG!!! I LOVE THIS SONG. IT IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE TRACKS ON THIS 1994 ALBUM. BUT ITS MOSTLY THE VOICE THAT MAKES ME.......PLOW!!!!!!!! GURU knew what he was doing. he knew people respected him. I was 17 when I met him. It was a quick slap hands, I respect your music and peace.......
GURU off this album here made me a very smart young man in 10th grade, this made me a thinker! He just spoke to you on some real shyt! RIP MY MAN! I miss you.
@westside159 especially when the fuck trys to sing like in 'how to love', this shit right here is real ass music, autotune destroyed music, thumbs up if ya agree
Damn this mom thought she was done with rap but I am pulling from the resources from which I used to listen to in th e80's and 90's and even though my 11 year old thinks I'm old school he wants to listen to my cd's and hav eme by him some DJ equipment for xmas! haha! even he gotta recognize real for real in his day and age and like what me and his Dad play ! Realness
yeah Guru is definitely one of the top 5 MCs but DJ Premo is no doubt the best producer. Everytime his tracks surprise me even if i listened to them a hundred times. This is something you need to study very closely

At least once every day I listen to a Gangstarr tracK. Guru was a lyrical master mind who didn't have to rely on cursing. Damn I will miss him and he never got the full credit he deserved. He was easily one of the top 5 mcs of all time. A big part of my heart and hip hop memories are aching today. And f**k vh1 for not inducting Gangstarr into the hip hop honors.
@saalakhanREBORN You are 100% correct. Not only that, but I haven't seen a memorial special on him on any mainstream music channels. (VH1, MTV, BET esc) I hear about Bret fucking Michaels everyday, but no Guru.
@garymets woooord homie. I bet nobody watches that shit. but if there was one for Guru it would blow up. fuck the mainstream bullshit. it pisses me off so damn much.. and It makes me miss Guru everyday even more.
They in 94 or 95 literally took my heart as a group, thats around 15 or so years ago! When I first heard this album it was OVER! I was a HUGE fan for life. Guru just spoke to you and Primos beats fit him like a perfect fitting shoe......... Shyt was just damn chemistry, when I heard this album I was HOOKED!
@saalakhanREBORN i`m feeling you man! every time i turn on the tv / radio and i see all these "rappers", those clowns, i switch it off and listen to real music. to me, guru was the goat! it makes me sad never hearing another record by prem & guru! read that premier`s got a lot of rarities stashed! hope he`ll release them soon!!!!

@garymets A saw a small thing on CNN about Guru, and MTV has vids of him on their website. Still its not enough.

They in 94 or 95 literally took my heart as a group, thats around 15 or so years ago! When I first heard this album it was OVER! I was a HUGE fan for life.
