i can understand the fact that he didnt like people comparing them to nirvana. mainly because as an artist, one wants individuality and self expression, they cant help the fact that they sound like nirvana, it's just the way they sound. its similar to two kids that are twins, they look like each other, yet can't help the fact that they do.

i disagree that the two sound nothing alike, their early sound (silverchair) was heavily influenced by nirvana, and what 3 piece grunge band wasnt. smells like teen spirit changed what music was when it hit the scene and being 13 and having a grunge sound silverchair picked right up in that. they very quickly established themselves as something all together different though.

There are a few songs that seem to be maybe "inspired" by Nirvana. Lie To Me (Riff sounds similar to Tourettes and the singing in the verses sounds like the chorus of Territorial Pissing) and Dearest Helpless sound very Nirvana-inspired.

Though Silverchair may have just been into the whole grunge genre at the time, not necessarily Nirvana.

The reason why I started to like Silverchair because they 'looked' like Nirvana, and I need Kurt's replacement in my heart...but the more I listen to Silverchair the more I like Silverchair than Nirvana now. Kurt's dead. I have to move on. And Daniel's got better personality than Kurt too, so it's a complete package.

the thing is, most silverchair songs from frogstomp or the last two albums are nothing like Nirvana. However, I can hear nirvana in "Satin Sheets", "Freak", "Spawn Again", "Lie to Me" (tourette's?), "Dearest Helpless" and "One Way Mule"

other than that, daniel's voice is closer to kurt than eddie vedder's deep booming voice and they are a three-piece band with a vocalist/guitarist with long blond hair, so here you go.

People who compare them to Nirvana have never listened to either group - they've read that in a forum and think they're cool repeating someone else's ignorant opinion. (If you actually listen to the music, instead of just looking at Daniel, silverhcair might remind you of Pearl Jam, but that's because of Daniel's voice, not their style).

It's so stupid - the first time I heard STP, I thought 'Oh, Pearl Jam has a new album'. And STP doesn't get half the crap silverchair gets.
