Linux can go further than multiple partitions....for example, Ubuntu can also be installed into windows and then allow you to reboot into Ubuntu...thus having two OS's on one partition.
I followed the instructions at the gentoo-wiki and it took me like 2 minutes to get compiz up and running, but I guess how easy it is to get compiz working depends on your skills and your GNU/Linux distribution.
Thanks for the reply I researched it a little more. From what I've found, correct me if I'm wrong. openGL is competitor of direct x and XGL is a version of openGL right?

On Ubuntu Feisty: sudo apt-get desktop-effects
Then go into System->Preferences->Desktop Effects menu and turn it on. That's it!

first of all, install gdesklets (if you're on gnome, don't ask me about kde because i don't use it too much).
just "sudo apt-get install gdesklets"
then on gdesklets shell, find "starterbar". it is on toolbar/launchers category.

Is it xgl that is making that window see through? I'm just curious.
Very nice video man

No. Translucency is made by compiz.
Thanks for all the comments!

Yes, OpenGL is a competitor of DirectX. But XGL is't a competitor of OpenGL, XGL is an add-on to the X Window System to use OpenGL.

I just need to run Photoshop, After Effects, and 3dsmax on Ubuntu to jump to it. :) It looks very cool ! :)
