There have been occasions where I have asked the artist if they mind before filming - if it is particularly 'in-your-face' (e.g. Alessi's Ark  at Rough Trade West) - but mostly I'm just filming from the crowd with a little compact camera like (usually) dozens of other people. The bands don't seem to mind - venues sometimes do. In any case, I always do my best to be discreet - mainly so that I don't get in the way of the people around me.
