@kiodo17 but not canonically. The Doctor Peter Cushing plays was a human scientist who created a time-machine, not the Gallifreyan adventurer we all know and love.
@diehippie9000 i think the reason David Tennant is my favorite is because Christopher introduced me to Doctor Who, David kept me on it and showed me the world, held my hand. i will probably like Matt too, i just need to get used to him, thats all. calm yourself
We are now on the 12th life of the doctor. (He used a regeneneration, but transfered it to his hand befor he finished.) In the movie with the 8th doctor, he says a timelord has 13 lives, so after his next regeneration, he is in big trouble!!
(Also, for me it seems, each time he regenerates, his appearance goes younger and younger. Next Doctor: A teenager?)
@AtarahDerek I don't think she gave him 10 more regenerations. She used the rest of her regeneration to regenerate him, since the poison disabled him from using his last regeneration by himself.
@eessppeenn001 This is true, but the rules of regeneration can be broken. This is especially true in the last time war where the worst battles are repeated a virtually infinite number of times with infinite regenerations/resurrections. And the main thing the doctor does is break rules. Also, River used all her regenerations to save the doctor, and I don't think the writers said anything about whether the 10 or so remaining aren't still in the doctor.
@Decimaster321 Yea, I know the rules of regeneration can be broken. In the movie with the 8th doctor, he says that the Master had used all his 13 lives, but sill he got a 14 by posessing a human, + we also met the Master at the end of the universe, so that means the master is atleast after his 16th life (With the exeption of when he returned almost alive and was hungry all the time.)
We also don't know if River used anny regenerations befor hitler but after as a kid.
@eessppeenn001 Actually, I think we do know that from S6E2, where we see young river regenerate in NYC. Later, as Melody, she says something like "last time I did this I ended up a toddler in NYC." We can assume that's the only one besides turning into the Alex Kingston-River. Unless we're meant to assume that she starved to death multiple times as a child while in NY?
@Decimaster321 I forget, was there any indication that young Melody was sent forward in time after leaving the orphanage? Because if not, she would have to have used at least one more regeneration between the one in front of the homeless guy and the one in 'Let's Kill Hitler' because Mels was the same age as Amy and Rory, and a toddler in the early 70's would be a full generation (no pun intended) older than them.
@eessppeenn001 Matt Smith is the Doctor's eleventh life. It was before the movie that the 13 lives was established. When dr 10 did the hand regeneration, it wasn't a full regeneration. He healed himself but didn't fully change so wasn't one of his regenerations. There are still 2 more to come. Why else would Matt Smith's first episode be the 11th hour? His greatest fear is behind door number 11.
@mandosaro yea, he regenerated the hand he lost, but then later he regenerated once again, but transfered the regeneration to hisw hand before it reached the stage where it transforms him into another doctor! That was his regeneration into his 11th life. (But let us all meet at the mid way and say he is on his 11.5 th life. Since timelords havent said annything about not being able to regenerate at his 12.5 life, and he didn't fully regenerate himself!)
@eessppeenn001 Hey I know this response is a week late but I had a thought. Since River gave her remaining lives to the Doctor so he could live after she poisoned him, couldn't he have maybe 10 more lives now? And if you're argument is that she's not full Time Lord, he could still have a couple more, right? Like maybe 3-5?
@ChelseCreek84 You'r rigth River isn't a full timelord, + we also don't know ho manny regenerations she have used between she was a baby and herself in "Let's kill Hitler". But she gave the regenerations to the doctor since the poison locked him from regenerating. For all we know she culd only have had 1 regeneration left, or she just used the rest of the regeneration she had already used.
The regeneration River gave him don't count towards his own limit.
@eessppeenn001 I think you also have a valid point, but I guess neither of us really knows what Moffat has in store. Hopefully, being the fangirl that I am, i hope that they do count. But who knows? Interesting conversation tho :)
@eessppeenn001 There have been a couple of times when the doctor has been given more "lives" (such as when River cured him in "Let's Kill Hitler") so no one has any idea how many he really has left. They could keep the show going forever if they just keep increasing his "lives count," if you will.
@eessppeenn001 there going to find some way to cheat that rule they have to or else their going to have a lot of very anger fans on their hands and they will lose a lot of money if they dont and i think the only reason they made that rule in the first place is because they didn't think that if they kept it going past 13 regens it would be very popolur i guess they were wrong
@natlle1 Yea, they have to do a way of cheating that rule, if the series will continue after he has used his last life. Such as the master, if he returns with another life, he will be at atleast his 17th life + the not full revival. Also since river was not entirely timelord, she might not have as manny regens as a normal timelord, + we don't know exactly how manny regens she already has used. I think she only used the remainings of her last regen to help the doctor nullify the poison.
Well, Peter Davison was the youngest actor to play the Doctor until Matt Smith came along. It went Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, so maybe the 12 will be a bit older. God I hope he's not a teenager. I think the effect of such an ancient character in such a young body is pretty neat, if done right (which Smith certainly does in my opinion.) A teenager would be too much though. Not that I wouldn't give it a chance. :)
@eessppeenn001 Actually.. That might not be the case. Remember when the Doctor (Smith) was poisoned by River? She saved his life by giving all of her remaining regenerations to him. If that indeed worked, he might even have more regenerations in front of him.
I don't count the hand bit as a regeneration and I'll try and explain why:
When a Timelord regenerates, all of the cells in his body are rebuilt into new ones. 10's hand in the jar was an outside source of the tenth Doctor's dna, and so when he transferred the regenerative energy, the dna in the hand restored 10's cells as still being 10's, it didn't rebuild them anew as it would in a regeneration.
Also bear in mind that though 11 is younger then the others, 5 was younger than 1-4 and 6 7 9 & 10
@eessppeenn001 According to the "Time Lord" wikipedia page, the eleventh doctor states that he can regenerate "507" times. So we're not out of luck yet ^_^
@darkspire44 I think you got that wrong... (Don't blame me too hard if I rememberd this wrong...) The Ood said that every song has an end. And the Doctors song will come to an end. They didn't say annything about the story to never have an end...
@eessppeenn001 ACTUALLY *puts nerd glasses on* When River Song *melody pond* saved the doctor by using her regeneration force (or whatever its called) and gave the doctor her 13 or 12 regenerations! And since she was genetically engineered she might have been born with more than 13 lives! Thus causing him to have a lot more.
@eessppeenn001 Nope, he's in his 11th, the one was partially transfered to retard the regeneration. Also, in hasn't always been like that, for examplo, from the 8th to the 9th he grew older.
Every single time I watch those kinds of videos with this particular piece of music, I just /know/ that the Doctor is real, and even though he might be in a different Universe, who says that he was never here?
i will admit i miss david tennet because i began watching doctor who when he was the doctor but when matt smith came i thought who was this clown but after the first episode of season 5 i was totally blown away he is a perfect role for the doctor cause hes mad and brillent he has everything a docotr has but david tennet we will miss you
@Sapire12 You and me both. I miss David Tennant. But Matt Smith is really coming together. I think he took notes from the 10th Doctor and the darkness and sadness of the 10th is really showing while keeping with the new, stand alone Doctor.

@evelsteev It is just you. Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, & Christopher Eccleston were all in their 40s when they played the role, while Davison was 29 when he took the part, Tennant in his mid-30s (although he looks younger), and Matt Smith was 26 when he got it.
