  • I'm so glad you weren't afraid to pause!

  • I love this one very much

  • I enjoyed this rendition greatly.

  • may be helpful:

consider the very elegant and expressive performance of Miguel Yisrael, this could be a measure for the next time (though it was played on a baroque lute - however by one of the most talented specialists in baroque music).

    kindest regards - S.

  • aww i wish there was a How to on this Song, I want to learn it so Bad

  • Why is everyone thinking that the tempo is too high? I like it better that way, frankly.

  • @Malachayas y think it's because the mistery is lost lol!

  • Hey, Malachayas! In fact, I think the mistery is intact, but I have a thought. Couperin is refering to the misteries of sexuality. Another reason not to rush the piece, I guess...

  • *grin* I will just ignore your interpretation in order to be not embarrassed.

  • @EmdrGreg - whats the meaning of the tittle? Thanks / Peru.

  • not to fast

  • are you kidding me!? this is a good a performance as a synthesized harpsichord is gonna get... you will never acquire the tone you need for this piece on a synthesized keyboard. you need more notes inégales, this is French Baroque, you must lean with a little rubato. A solid, straight forward performance but nothing special.

  • Potugalia, on my Baricades, I agree with you completely. Inegales is not easy, and it really can't be done at the breakneck tempo I used here. I've never had formal harpsichord training, but I would love to at some point. Thanks for your comment.

  • Spectacular! When it's played this accurately and crisply, I prefer the faster speed.

    Fred Gilkey, Baltimore

  • Thanks, papageno. I do enjoy playing it.

  • A bit fast, but still very good!

  • Thanks. Please give a listen to my other recording: Les Baricades Misterieuses Take Deux. It is much slower.

  • Lovely piece. I am trying to play this piece by guitar based on the transcription for the guitar by Parkening. He also plays this piece noble and ellegant. Thank you for your playing.

  • great. I like your pacing. I only wish you had played it on a harpsichord! It still sounds wonderful though.

  • Excellente version, j'aime bien le tempo rapide !

Go and see my favourites (qui n'ont rien à voir...) pour d'autres chefs-d'oeuvre !

  • TROP rapide,dommage!

  • You are right, glaoud. Thank you. I admitted that in a comment below. It is my intention to record it again, at a better pace. Do you play?

  • Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. Please check out mine on some 1920's trading cards of musical instruments, including the harpsichord.

  • Thanks for listening! Yeah I was just basically having fun with the instrument. I'll put up some piano stuff as soon as I can - I'm MUCH more self-conscious about it and with in law school its hard to put in as much time as I would like to. :-) Love your Baricades! One of my favorites and I love the way you pace it.

  • (I speak so bad english, sorry!)thank you for playing the great François Couperin, and especially Les Barricades, rondeau génialissime. le 3e couplet est joué un peu vite et sec mais sur un instrument electronique c'est difficile de rendre la délicatesse de toucher du clavecin. Vive le baroque.

  • Thank you for your comments, Couperinette. I think the whole recording of Baricades is quite fast, and I will record it again soon. The ornament in the 1st couplet should start on the upper note, but my fingers will not obey me. I have just uploaded Prelude I; you are obviously knowledgeable; please let me know what you think.

  • I'm thinking of getting an electronic harpsichord. How do you think the sound compares to an actual manual acoustic harpsichord? Have you tried sending the output signal through an A/V receiver and high quality speakers?

  • Awesome playing! I have always loved this piece too. thanks

  • AWESOME JOB! One of my very favorites! Thank you very much!

  • Thanks, fh. It's a lot of fun to play. At some point I am going to do "take deux" of this; I'll slow it down a little, and fix the ornaments.

  • That's really a quaint little piece, and well played.

  • Thanks; your comment means a lot; I'm in AWE of your playing.

  • hi!

    It's really nice!

but, what do you think about my scarlatti an bach videos?

I'm JP i play on a red harpsichord if you want to see thaks!

  • I just listened, JP. I love your playing, and I love the harpsichord! I have a small single manual acoustic harpsichord, but my nephew has had it for several years. It isn't nearly as good as yours.

  • I've wondered about that too, anonimo, and I don't have a clue. I have a thought, though. Those Baroque folks were a lusty crew under all the powdered wigs and lace. Also, in this piece you hold a lot of notes across the bar line, and you alternate the held notes between the two hands. That's what gives the sound almost like depressing the damper pedal on the piano. It's a lilting, liquid sound. Put all that together, and voila!

  • Great! What do you think about these mysterieuses barricades? Qu´est-ce qu´ils sont? What the hell are they? :)

  • anonimo, I have some those about those 'mysterieuses baricades', but I didn't enter them as a reply to you. See the comment under yours.

  • love this tune, thank you

  • You're welcome, pimpernet.
