@chillichomper I'm sorry, i have to disagree, as much as yngwie is one of my heroes, he's in no way more technical friedman, and marty IS still writing and does small tours in japan. (with good reason too, think about expenses here, marty's gonna be flying all over the place spending ridiculous amounts of $ and to what? maybe a crowd of 30-or-so people in the know?). marty uses far more intricate lines and progressions than malmsteen, a lot of cacophony was marty, that was way ahead of yngwie.

He uses a bunch of different scales actually - pentatonic, harmonic minor, melodic minor, chromatic (a lot more recently), minor, major... he basically uses everything.
And he fuses them seamlessly. So melodic... a master. This solo is excellent. The song is a little ballad-y. So what? I like it. :)

This solo was unusually good I think! I mean, I always preferred the older stuff from the first albums, but his tone here was incredibly smooth and he didnt follow his typical phrygian scales as strictly as he sometimes does. As always, incredibly executed bends and vibrato, but some cool legato sounding runs too, way cool!

He uses a bunch of different scales actually - pentatonic, harmonic minor, melodic minor, chromatic (a lot more recently), minor, major... he basically uses everything.
And he fuses them seamlessly. So melodic... a master. This solo is excellent. The song is a little ballad-y. So what? I like it. :)

They should enter this for the eurovision song contest, this is such fucking crap. Malmsteen couldn't play a decent solo if he tried. Playing the same widdly scale over and over again is nothing to do with musician ship. All this guy has done is mastered one scale at lightening speed up and down the neck, all of his songs suck. This solo was unusually good I think! I mean, I always preferred the older stuff from the first albums, but his tone here was incredibly smooth and he didnt follow his typical phrygian scales as strictly as he sometimes does. As always, incredibly executed bends and vibrato, but some cool legato sounding runs too, way cool!
