I worked at Oxley Depot in 1989 when the DVT's were first introduced to the West Coast, believe me,we had alot of teething problems in the early days, getting them to work with the class 86's/87's as they were designed to work with class 90's only,so alot of 'bodging' was done to force them to work with the earlier classes of AC Loco.
I was on the pretendolino the other week, at first I was like, WTF, where is the actual pendolino but when I got inside, you realise how much more space there is inside the carriages, so not a bad journey at all
@Virgintrainsuk Yeah, I know about the Class 90! People have said its ok, I'm sure it'll be fine. I'll be getting the redone Class 90 for my Caledonian Sleeper set, either next year or the year after. That one is going to have sprung buffers, working lights. Looks like its third time lucky for the Class 90.........
Odd that they are replacing an (electric) class 90+Mk3s with a (diseasel) class 221 on the Preston run. I always think its a waste running diesels "under the wires". Better to get more Mk3s, I think!
Great Vid, a fitting tribute to an Extinct breed: the electric loco+Mk111 rake. proper carriages with a proper loco, buffet car, big wide windows, happy days :)))
the Plastic pendo's are souless and ok they are fast, but, but.....thanks for this vid, Big thumbs up from an old 87 "Van-Basher"
@Virgintrainsuk That is strange. I wonder if the current class 90 TOCs have de-rated them to 100mph? I noticed that in on of the NXEA 90s it said 100mph on the inside of the cab roof (in hand writing), however they always used to operate at 110mph with VT. Odd. Either way they are good for well over 110mph but rarely operate as such.
@THAMESLINK319 Yes, I believe it does. Just like a car windscreen I guess, I havn't seen any yet, but will keep an eye out for them if am out again in the snow.
What number of 1st and standard carragies does this train consist of? The reason I ask is that im trying to get the full rake for my Hornby model version. Just thorght id ask the expert as you have a lot of videos of it :) Thanks, Sutty :)
@ApacheBravo Hey, There are 9 coaches in total. They are as follows 3 1st Class coachs, 1 1st Class Buffet and 5 Standard coaches. I Have a video of the full length train on my anount !
Very good Bradley, good job you managed to get there to record the occasion, I did prewarn the Driver that one of my YT contacts would be at Preston and asked him to do something special for you and he obliged with a cab visit and some music.. Thanks also for the credit (twice) for the info supplied.
@englischlokfuehrer Thanks David, I didn't think I would get there as the snow was coming down quite bad. It was great to be able to go in and out of the cab for pictures, it was good of him to do a horn as some drivers really don't like to do it when you ask. Shame its not coming back, you never know it might pop up on a relief service. your have to pass the URL let the driver see his fame lol
Oh yes top vid looks good covered in snow livery matches it lol get it while u can as by 2012 they probably wont need this set with the 4 new pendolinos coming in lol
@suncoolclose I saw this name in a comment on a vid by 'Sim0nTrains' or 'IanPooleTrains' who were both at Rugeley in the fog on Dec 6th when it came over, I like it and have been speading it around at work and other places.
@DavidMichaelArchives lol, Its a shame I hope they do put this back on the route at some point. But this may make an unaccepted visit as it is a relief train, lets hope so.

I'm confused. You say this is an 1846 service in mid-December, but you show the train in daylight...

Carriages look familiar to the ones I used to Preston-Bournemouth/Bristol on but not the engines :)

Why do you pride so much in it being 'Exclusive'?

@robertmbishop Why not? Its last booked service, am the only one with it one. Which makes it 'Exclusive' !!

how fast can this train travel, can it go 100 MPH or faster?
sideslide23 1 year ago
@sideslide23 The max speed of the Class 90 is 100MPH, So I would say 100 is its limit.

Bit off topic but do you know why some of the Pendolino's have smashed windows, has the snow and ice got something to do with it?
