Touchdowns aren't the end of the story. They're both great return-men, but Cribbs is better for the field-position game. Hester will give you 6-8 TDs a year, and maybe 6-8 good yardage plays besides--that's counting his WR plays. Cribbs will have you starting drives at or past the 40 a good amount of the time, and he'll break a few for scores.

Some offenses can start at the 20 and be fine, but Cribbs would be a season-changing help for most teams.

problem with your theory is that people kicking to hester either kick it out of bounds or squib kick it. he is such a threat. for cribbs, he is not as a threat so people will kick to him. plus hester has six td's while cribbs has three td's for cribbs. also bears have better field position in the end so he is a threat on every return.
