  • Green finch and linnet bird, nightingale, blackbird... por favor, sí, enseñadle a cantar

  • Ugh, i hate all of the burtonfags insulting the original play. Johanna in the original was supposed to be a slightly comedic character. she was never meant to be sexy or whatever the fuck they tried for in the movie version.

  • Am I he only one that imagines the woman that plays Johanna being hit with a shoe while she's singing? xD

  • She seems disturbed! HAHA

  • Johanna is like scaring the bird off! :))))

  • joanna looks crazy lolll

  • johnny is the best for sweeney

  • Thank you for putting these up, but goodness. I find it hard to listen to this after watching Tim Burtons version...0_0

  • good job

  • A mi no me convence tu teclado XDDDDD

    (mmmmm paaaaaaapi!)

  • joanna does it really good cuz she sings it in a kind of weird way cuz shes mentally disturbed by her growing up life. but i think she overacts a bit in sooome little parts . :(

  • i love the way he stands up and shout AT LAAAAAAAAST MY ARM IS COMPLETE AGAIN!

THE WAY HE DOES IT IS AMAZING!

  • Angela Landsbury was not an opera singer. Modern musical plays haven't got opera singers, they prefer normal voice texture because with opera voices the screenplay can't be listening as well.

  • he sings it a little bit to quick...

  • AYUDA!!

No puedo ver este video. Me aparece la pantalla en negro diciendo:

"We're sorry, this video is no longer avaliable."

  • I wish they had kept "Ah Miss" in the movie...

  • FINALLY, a johanna that can act! She has a good voice but the one in the film's voice is better suited but can't/doesn't act AT ALL. This johanna really manages to make the character her own and is wayy better than the one in the film

  • The film didn't even give Johanna a chance to act!

  • The woman who played Johanna in this version over does it, though. And the vibrato of her voice is slightly annoying.

  • I thought this johanna was great the one from the movie stunk!

  • it was awsem good caption

  • W0W she is a great singer! but the johanna from the movie i think is a tiny bit better by my own opinoin

  • JOHANNA IS A GREAT SINGER!!!!!! WOW!!

  • Johnny and Helena are much more pleasant singers

  • Please teach her green fich and linnet bird... Please!

    xO

  • I saw it this way may be i am wrong , the fact that one "notice" her singing even if as "wrong singing" has called the attention to deepen into "her" drama.

  • I saw it this way may be i am wrong , the fact that one "notice" her singing even if as "wrong singing" has called the attention to deepen into "her" drama.

In part 4 when the judge approch her looking at her dress her "reaction" isn`t "clear enough ?

and when he enter the house after her...doesn`t his laugh makes it clear enough ?)

  • can you go in de detail how has to be singed "THAT' song? :) considering a young girl who has lost mother and father and with this trauma in her hart she "had to" be "obbidient" day after day to an old perverse ipocrit...facing his abuse each day of her young life ?!

How "emotional balanced" can Johanna be to sing in an emotional balanced way ?

  • She has a gorgious voice wish i could hear more from her !

  • Johanna makes me feel unconfartable, thought she has a greit voice. Is she supposed to make feel unconfortable ? I notice that in this version , there isn`t the Mea Culpa, and when the judge approch her with a "compliment" about her dress she jump away, shocked ! Has she been raped already and kept in "cage" with the insane pervert judge ?

  • not only does she sound insane, she sounds aged.. far from 15.. i loved celia keenan bolger's johanna

  • Even if the woman playing Johanna isn't good, her face gives me a chuckle. The woman is an opera singer, though. An intresting one at that.

  • dont like this versions johanna... her voice woud do better in an opera not that she that good anyway..... movie johanna is better

  • Hate the Johanna. She sounds insane.

  • Thanks for giving it away!

  • Somebody should delete that comment...

  • Done!

  • Thank you! =) I appreciate it!

  • I like the Tim Burton's version of Joanna she sings way better...

  • AnyTHING sings better than Betsy Joslyn.

  • @mssto why????

  • @mssto i think they were jst going for the hysteric joanna.. a gurl whos been afraid her entire life by that pedo judge.

  • @h8slonelygurl i agree that the tim burton version is better but this was a play. no redo's or studio equipment so you kinda gotta cut them a little slack

  • JOANNA IS AWESOME!!! I watched this movie in school.

  • LOL!!! the crazy begar lady is so fabulous

  • AT LAST MY ARM IS COMPLETE AGAIN!!!!

    swing your razor high Sweeney!

    gotta be my favourite bit

  • Lol I love the beggar lady.

    As for the young couple:

    1. I don't know ANY guy who would fancy Johanna.

    2. I don't buy that Anthony's straight.

  • They should of explained more about Johannas character in the movie, shes just shown as an innocent little mite thats locked up, nothings said about the molesting or that she actually is mad

Angela is brilliant and i can understand why people prefer it this way coz its how it was written but i prefer HBCs voice, its eerier and suits the whole atmosphere better i think..

  • I don't know why but...I really don't like this Johanna >_> I prefer the concert version and Harolyn Blackwell. Even the movie version appeals to me better. @_@

  • Personnally, I think Depp was perfect in the movie. Okay, he's not a singer but he sang and played Todd with emotion and THAT was outstanding ( and " off key singing " ? not true ). I like a lot the movie because of his performance and Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs Lovett ( and Toby... oh well very good movie ).

This version is diferent but I like it too ( mostly because they are all singers, Angela Lansbury is wonderful, this is on stage and this is the complete musical ).

  • she's got a great voice, but she rushed every single note of her song! and she's so frantic in her acting!

and anthony looks like Sailor Ken!

  • All I can say about Johanna and Anthony is ugh. XP

  • I agree. Joanna's voice is um. . .

  • Lmfao I love Anthony's face on the last "look at me" its so 'im an innocent little boy'-ish

  • Holy. Shnap. Johanna was umm freeky even if she was trying to act crazy she was to melodramatic with it. And i'm pretty sure she has a nice voice, but the way she is singing it and her facial expressions. But anyway Mrs. Lovett and Sweeney were wonderful!

  • uhm... shes playing a 17 year old girl who lives with a perverted old man who rapes and molestes her. no duh shes gonna be weird!

  • He rapes her? Oh..dear i know she is supposed to be crazy but i think she is overdoing it a little. I do think she has a lovely voice, but i'm sure its not her fault its the directors fault. for telling her to act that way

  • even though every1 else is great and shes shit

  • EXACTLY! Plus, she's a STAGE actress - filming up close shots really isn't an acurate representation of what how she interpreted the role as a nervous, victimized girl who is held prisoner by a cruel guardian.

  • My sister had this role once and she mentioned the task of showing that Joanna is already insane before her sweetheart dreams of "rescuing" her. This performance is pretty odd, but you certainly get that message that Joanna's already lost her mind, lol

  • Betsy Joslyn/Johanna makes me want to kill myself. No joke.

  • I have to say I'm not really too fond of this Johanna singing the song, but in her defense she kind of has to belt the song out if she wants her voice to reach anywhere past the first row.

  • it's called classical singing.

belting = not classical = not sweeney todd

    thankyou.

  • Johanna reminds me of Robin Hood Men in tights...thats not a good thing

  • DUDE!! I can sing better then Johanna....and I Can NOT sing. But in this Anthony is really cute!

  • Cris Groenendaal looks like Flaming Homosexual Ken®. I guess Joslyn can be Crazy Fag Hag Barbie®.

  • XD WHOA! She's *belting* it! Way too much for her character. What a show-off. *rolls eyes*

  • this johanna gives me a headache, like she just opened her mouth and a sharp pain just erupted in my head, she really sucks.

  • OMG if I was a bird I'd have flown away while she was warbling. I love this stage production...but Johanna is a weak link.

  • the only thing i liked extraordinarily much was "my firends" more than in the play, everything else was the play, except maybe epiphany

  • Face it, Johnny Depp wasn't born to sing, but he did portray the Todd character nicely, give the guy credit.

This version of Sweeney Todd is breath-taking.

  • while johannna was singing that one long note i thought for sure she was going to pass out!

  • Lol.

I love Johanna's expressions while she's singing Green Finch and Linnet Bird; good acting, but almost comical xD

  • "Then actor, That's compacter! ...Yes, and always arrives overdone!"

    oh, irony.

  • The Begger Woman Is so wonderfully played

  • i know. i love sarah in burton's film so much but she just surpasses it and is miles away. but that woman probably couldnt play her as well as sarah played mary poppins

  • Yes! I think so too! Shes REALLY well played.

  • What the hell? What kind of world is this woman in? Her expressions are so messed up it's not even funny. And her voice...ugh. Who did she sleep with to get the part and more in importantly who would sleep with her?

  • lmfao hell yea

  • its called singing opera style try watching more opera style videos and get used to the style it will grow on you. It is a very old style. No need to be crude...

  • i see a lot of rock operas/operas/musicals and that's not soprano singing. thats trying to sing soprano

  • in my opinion Johanna seems to...enthusiastic whilst singing. not just her sound i mean. but her acting. i know that for stage everything must be exaggerated for the audience to be able to see...but still i imagine Johanna as being a more forlorn figure...not...so...

and monkey066188, "poor anthony/he must hear that every night..." ,i agree whole heartedly.

  • its nice

but i like to listen to johnny depp's version

  • Everybody loves Betsy Joslyn here.

  • Alright people, let's stop taking shots at Johanna now. Yes, her voice can make babies cry. Yes, the glass I was holding did break when she sang. Yes, Burton's Johanna is better than this one. But she's not a bad singer. She just has an opera-style voice. It's that simple. Not everyone likes opera. And Sweeney Todd isn't supposed to be sung as an opera. It's bad casting. Happens to the best of directors.

  • I consider myself an opera fan and I must say that I find this absolutely dreadful. Not only was it unpleasant, but it was messy. I haven't seen a single opera or clip of an opera with so much sliding and bad vibrato. Good opera singers give you chills, but bad ones give you headaches and make you want to vomit. She is trying to sing operatically (which you almost have to for that particular song), but she's failing miserably. This is not what opera sounds like.

  • oh yes, and i must add that she sounds like a bird that's trying to sing while drowning underwater. Pain, sheer pain and agony.

Sweeney has a nice voice, but he slides his notes too.

    gorgeous set and costumes though

Anthony has a nice voice. It almost makes up for Johanna making my eardrums bleed

  • Still, I would rather listen to this version all day rather than listen to any more of Johnny Depp's off key singing. Gah, like stabbing my ears every time his mouth opened except twice. Plus, his poor delivery of the "At last, my right arm is complete again." Tim, I know Depp is a good actor (He is!) but would it have killed you to cast someone who can sing for Sweeney Todd.

  • What do you mean by poor delivery of the "At last, my right arm is complete again? It was way better then George's delivery.

  • Depp's had no feeling, he just kind of growl/sneers it out. Although I will admit, the lack of chorus (Although i understand that choice for the film, despite the loss of "God, That's good") immediately after that line robs it of some of it's feeling no matter what.

And while George's isn't the best, Michael Cerveris owns that line, he owns it forever. Johnny needed 1/2 the feeling of Cerveris' version.

  • no i cnt srand Michael Cerveris he killed the part and Tommy as well. Much like Patti LuPone killed Evita and that

  • "AT LAAAAST..MY ARM IS COMPLEEETE AGAIN!!"

The music and lights after that line are so scary.

  • God, that's bad.

  • i hate her for ruining my song

  • poor anthony

he must hear that every night...

  • The girl is really shrill.

But this Anthony=WAY better than Jamie Campbell.

  • she reminds me of Carlotta from Phantom of the Opera.

  • carlotta was better, at least she was on key

  • oh good lord.. no offence.. i really dont mean to disrepect the original, cuz i love it, i really do, but ive never seen this part, and i must say the Girl in Tim Burtons adaption singing MUCH better, this lady scares me.. a lot.. she is like forceful, and demanding, lol it really does scare me. i mean she is good, she can hit amazing notes, but like i said, i think Tim Burtons Joanna is much better

  • xHermione31x I agree but I think it's because

of the costume it makes her look 80 in stede of 16. the one in the beginning and the end were better and made her look the age she was playing. also I think that considering that Jayne Wisener (from the new one) is relliy good considering she never took singing lessions before the movie.

    (exuese my spelling)

  • This isn't the original. At least I don't think so. Because I have the original cast recording and she's different.

    And yes. She is wretched.

  • lol oh! thanks, i thought it was the original :P she is still scary tho haha

  • Don't worry- it's safe to buy the original cast recording, haha

  • oh wow the "dock" part is crazy too! wow!

  • Her voice is making me cringe.......

I like the revival anf the one on the movie soundtrack better.

  • thank you so much for actually posting the WHOLE musical! i was so upset when the other user skipped "green finch", "ah miss", "pirelli's" AND "the contest"!

  • wow, really different from the film. mind u ive never seen the play

  • ok, so the sailor is supposed to fall in love with her by hearing her voice, right? so... if i were him that wouldnt make me fall in love. that would make my ears bleed and then run away crying.

  • LMAO!!!! nice. I like the way that Tim Burton did this scene though. Its not so high pitched.

  • They're the same notes, but the singer is better in the movie. Her voice is softer and doesn't have the vibratto that could cut glass, like this girl.

  • Yeah but she seems like more of a psycho with the crazy awful vibrato. It kind of adds to her character.

  • ....if i was anthony, i would probably throw my sack at her. so far, she has the most shrilly voice and the girl from tim burton's is the least. and i agree with theatredork. birds: PECK TO KILL!!(btw, her expression from 7:00 is very funny)

  • I would love if someone made this with English subtitles, actually.

  • yes, please!

  • OMG...I love when she goes cross-eyed. Hilarious!

  • Where's Jayne?! You can't say this girl is better!

  • 5:59 "Are you screaming?"

    Why yes. Yes you are.

  • Iiiiick. No wonder this isn't on the highlights CD from the original cast! Yeow.

  • hahahah i agree. jayne was WAY better!

  • birds..KILL her. thx you

  • Ew, Johanna sounds completely mad.

  • yes, please teach her to sing. Thank you, good birds...

  • aha! i know, right? its like they didnt have auditions for the part of johanna; they just let her in. they were like "eh, whatever. i dont care anymore. give her the damn part."

  • LMAO!! XD

you gota love the begger woman!!

  • How irritating is she!? My gosh, someone shut her up PLEASE! I agree with you Loganlark!

  • pedazo pulmones !!

  • OMG somone please shut her up!!!!

  • I LOVE this scene...I hope they don't CUT it from the Johnny Depp film version!!!

  • The depps\boham-carter version is already posted ))

  • They didn't. They just cut it down a bit.

  • Me encanmtra GReen Finch and Linnet Bird
