  • @March2Ruin You have some amazing picking technique!

  • are those clear tone strings

  • @flagnarg1

    daddario 54-12

  • You look like Paul Gilbert :D

  • would you recommend dimarzio d activators over these?

  • Sounds like All That Remains o.O

  • Holy shit.

  • Do you enjoy this?

    I know I do.

Didn't copy your riff, but it gave my inspiration.

    Nice going.

    Cheers !

  • @RamBeuk im glad i could pass down some inspiration. Let me here what you came up with :)

  • TAB it please ! i beg you !

  • @systemofadownowns123 oh come on haha, you should be able to do that after watching a few times :) its not technical!

  • @March2Ruin tab it for me then ^^

  • NICE RIFFS!

  • sound sweet! what is better for a hard rock type tone, emg's or blackouts would you say?

  • for hard rock you could use either. at the end of the day i think i preferred the EMG's though.. However, now i play duncan passives (specifically the JB / 59) and am happy with them. They can do any style really well

  • is it neccesary to have an active guitar to get the blackout pickups? and also, do I need to change both pickups or can I change just the bridge?

  • @Torqueofficial these pickups require a battery to function.. you can wire just one active with a passive neck.. but it would require different pots and some clever wiring..

  • reminds me of the black dahlia murder :) great playing ! :)

  • btw sick riff mann this makes me want to get blackouts now...

  • ltd sg?

  • @MegaHellcat666 ya its the LTD viper 400

  • @March2Ruin sick

  • Dude. This is really sick. Nice video!

  • Sick riffing dude.

  • @Mar7one thanks man :)

  • nice sg

  • @metachozoite Thats an ESP Viper dude. Similiar in shape but nowhere near the same in any other way.

  • Nice riff!

  • Very fizzy tone, probably due to camera or silly amp settings. None the less nice playing.

  • nice playing but turn your amp up so i can hear it properly

  • I think you'd love the AHB-3 at the bridge.

  • How much did this guitar cost?

  • booa!nice playing! need more! do it now!!! ;)))

  • booa!nice playing!

  • i jizzed everywhere the second this came on. amazing job

  • i dont think people are satisfied with u getting rid of the blackouts. maybe a comparison video between this and the sh5 is in order? :D

  • Why have you only got 1 video, cmo'n you got some skill, get some more vids upp :D

btw do you like The Black Dahlia Murder, by any chance?

  • @1man1stick1hat thanks man :) and yes i do like the black dahlia murder.. the reason for no more vid's is because i don't really play guitar and metal to much anymore :/

  • @March2Ruin :O no wayy :( .....Stil, its an amazing video tho :D

  • @1man1stick1hat black dahlia murder is the shit bro

  • What did u dislike so much about the blackouts that u changed them to passives?

  • can you tell me what's the tempo of this song?

  • @xiscide i didnt use a click track when playing this song. However, in the past i usually played around 136-140bpm..

  • @March2Ruin

erm... how slow do you set your metronome man ? like do you play in 16th notes or something?

cos this is closer to 210bpm

  • @6Hellbilly6Deluxe6 keep in mind this is not in standard 4/4, but 4/4 (triplets). that explains the bpm confusion

  • The way it should be played

  • COOL!!!!!!!!!

  • that is the sexiest viper ever, i was gonna get one in cherry but for some reason i ended up walking out of the shop with the complete opposite..... a telecaster (im not sure why) it twangs so badly on the bridge pickup on clean it shakes the room even on low volume. shoulda got a viper....

  • These are the best pickup ever made. I have gone thru dimarzio, gibson, etc...

I use ahb1 at the neck. No fuzz or hum. Loud Solid real ez 2 play anything.

  • viper ftw

  • Still prefer the SH-6 Duncan Custom and SH-8 Invaders.

  • @KissMeImPunk

The SH-6 is the distortion and the SH-5 is the custom.. For the last year or so i have been playing with the SH-6 in this guitar and the SH-5 custom in my LTD MH-1000NT. I do prefer them aswell

  • @March2Ruin I just don't really like the bright tone actives give off. Call me crazy but I prefer the dirty crunchy and thrashy..something crispy you know?

  • @March2Ruin So you use the SH-5 and SH-6 now? I was thinking of putting one of the two in a PRS SE Custom 24. What do you think the difference is between those two? I heard that the Custom is a little thicker and has slightly better lows than the distortion, but has a little less output. Is it still hot enough (and tight enough) for modern metal?

  • @ctalbert1 the main difference is exactly like you described it. The SH-6 does give you a little more output but the SH-5 can definetely do the modern metal and provides more low end, which can be nice for guitars that lack it. The Black Dahlia Murders ex lead guitarist was using the SH-5 when playing passive pickups.

  • @March2Ruin Ok, that is what I was thinking, so great. Sometimes pups with a lot of lows can get a little loose and boomy, but does the Custom retain good tightness regardless? Thanks again

  • @ctalbert1 i currently only use the SH-5 and its known for keeping its tightness when playing fast. If you are really concerned with playing modern metal and getting the "brutal" id go with an EMG 85 in the bridge. However, if you prefer passive and want to go brutal but retain versatility i think the SH-5 is a great bet.

  • nice riff, nice sound

  • what tuning are you playing in

  • @snowballer234

    this is in D standard

  • these, emgs, or d activators????!!!!!

  • @almiester1234

these are seymour duncan blackouts.. just like the title says haha

  • @March2Ruin nononono im saying should i get these or the others i listed?

  • @almiester1234

ahh, i would go with the EMG's out of the three. I liked the 85 in the bridge with the 60a in the neck.. very versatile and brutal.

  • do you go into the high or normal gain input on your amp. Im gonna get some blackouts soon and heard that with high output pickups you should just use the normal gain ( i got a 5150 too) . Of course i'll use my ears but if you have any advice on that that would be cool, Thanks.

  • @JasonM2691 i always used the high gain input on that amp. I believe the high gain runs at 120 watts and the normal at 60 watts. im not positive though

  • what exactly does that sonic maximizer do?? i've been seeing more and more people use it... and thanks for the heabier-sounding demo, too many demos of these pickups on here are not bringing out the pickup's FULL potential..

  • Sounds nice! Your right hand is sick! Are you using Jazz 3 picks?

  • LTD Viper, am I right? Nice video!

  • Can you do a tutorial of 0:19 0:23 please? or how is that tech called?

  • @cnnre2005 that is just a very basic down picking riff.. very common in modern metal. It's in 4/4 timing, but counted in triplets.

  • what song is this?

  • @vgamefreak97 just a quick riff i came up with for testing purposes.

  • Very Lamb of God sounding riff. Though that middle section definitely sounded something from a black metal band. Good shit.

  • that was pretty freakin dope man!! in my opinion the guitar looks like a full sized guitar hero controller, and you made it sound AMAZING!! hahaha, no offense meant by that either. if it sounds good it doesnt matter how it looks

  • blackouts give a better sound than EMG in my opinion.

  • @Edseldopydope they were a little to hot for my liking. I preferred the EMG 85 in the bridge when i was using actives. I stick with the passive duncans now.

  • @March2Ruin i see what you mean. I have a ltd EC-401 with EMG 81/85 and that's why i say that it sounds better than my EMG :] I also have a B.C. Rich Mockinbird ST and replaced the Rockfield bridge pickup with a Seymour Duncan Tb-5 and hell yes it's kickass even for a passive pickup

  • @Edseldopydope the Sh-5 is what i have in my Mh-1000 and its an amazing pickup!

  • Wow fucking beastin' guitar, pickups, playing, tone, I love this. What brand strings are those?

  • @BashYouLongtime Daddario 54-12

  • @March2Ruin That's what I had. I'm trying out GHS Boomers for the harmonics, and they're alright. I don't really see the difference though yet, but I moved from D'addario Super Lights to GHS Mediums. I like D'addario, but I haven't been able to test out a whole lot of brands yet. Any reccomendations? I was reccomended some Pro Steels, but idk... lol

  • are both brinde and neck pickups the same pickups im looking to by a metal pickup and that is an amazing sound given :D

  • @xXMasterOfMuppetsXx

they are the Seymour Duncan ahb-1 blackout set, one is designed for the neck and the other the bridge. It specifies this on the bottom of the pickups. EMG's are great for metal :)

  • muy buen sonido, exelentes pastillas... de quien es la cancion?

  • whats gauge strings you use.

  • @yasanceko

    54-12 in D standard

  • would say ditch the bbe but you already have, 5150's work great with nothing but a eq in the loop for a solo boost and a isp and tubescreamer in front

  • @gmbob22 ya its just collecting dust now. I actually play through a mesa head now with a maxon od9 in front.

  • Now you just need Trevor Strnad's amazing vocals and it would sound just like something from The Black Dahlia Murder!

  • @xmetalrifferx Hell yeaaaah!! Trevor is god haha

  • man! would it be nice if i put sd blackouts to my ibanez grg121?? i'm thingking of buyin one..

    btw. nice killer riffs man!

  • sweet fucking riff! did you just made that riff? or that is from another band?

  • wich sonic maximizer are your using?

  • @Heineken1712 BBE 482i rackmount.. i actually don't use it anymore, got a maxon od-9 to replace it

  • awesome guitar man, nice right hand work!

  • Fucking Crushing Tone mate!!!

  • dude that's insane!!!! amazing pickups+amazing guitar+amazing skills=best demo vid i've seen!!!! rock on!!!!

  • would these go well with a vox valvetronix ad30vt?

  • @deanosabbathfan no experience with those amps, but if im not mistaken its a solid state amp?.. i would highly recommend a tube amp (5150 being a great choice) if you want solid metal tones. That being said, im not sure how the blackouts would sound through that amp.. despite both being important, the amp should come first before the choice of pickups

  • Fucking nice one mate! Do you have an opinion on the Gibson - Bare Knuckle

Warpig Humbucker pickup?? i just chucked a set in my Hammer Vector! like

some thoughts from Metalhead Shredders out there!!!!!

  • @weenal no experience with the bare knuckle pickups.. but have heard good things.. i tend to lean towards the passive duncans.. I have a sh-6 in the bridge and sh-2 in the neck of this guitar now.

  • Try the SH-8. They're the beast when it comes to crunch and dominates the passive line ups.

  • Do you feel like the duncan distortion is good for Drop C?

  • @csmorgan For a mahogany guitar i think its great for that tuning. I also really like the duncan custom sh-5. Thats what i use in my ESP LTD MH-1000. My viper now has the duncan distortion. Both great pickups, but i do prefer the Custom for versatility.

  • @March2Ruin Those are the two exact pickups I have been lookin at putting in the bridge of my H1001. I am kind of worried that the distortion would be muddier than the custom for Drop C metal type stuff. But I really have no playing experience with either. I just know that the Custom 5 in my guitar is kinda "fuzzy" for Drop C so naturally im leaning towards the custom which has a ceramic magnet

  • @csmorgan both will give you a nice metal tone, considering your h1001 is basically the same guitar that i have i would give the SH-5 a shot.. the ceramic magnet will tighten things up for lower tuning. This is not to say i prefer ceramic over alnico in all cases, but for what your looking for i think it would be better suited.

  • @March2Ruin I would appreciate you posting a video of you playing your mh1000 :)

  • Was that song an original one of yours or a cover?

  • @FloroSapien that is an original piece :)

  • It's fantastic, sounds a shit load like At the Gates.

  • omg it sounds awesome !

i have LTD m50...i need to get those :P

  • @pkPUX i have the same gat, would those sync with the guitar?

  • @69chrger

i think that they will work fine with m50...

my friend has those pickups in ltd ax-50 and they sound awesome :D

  • the begining sounds like prince of persia vs the dahaka track or escape from the dahaka something like that anyway youre playing is good

  • Comment removed

  • @geoffreymiller9430 this was through a matching 5150 cab.. thanks for the compliments.. just a 5150 halfstack with a BBE sonic maximizer in the effects loop.

  • Comment removed

  • i have emg's in my eclipse do i have to switch the wiring if I changed to blackouts

  • @sk8357 nope..

  • Very good tone and playing.

  • the way you hold your pick and play with your right hand looks so funny to me haha but I do love your tone, good stuff

  • @csmorgan id have to say the way im holding my pick is pretty standard when playing fast triplets..

  • @March2Ruin I have seen many ways yours just looks uncomfortable is all, to each his own man

  • Nice playing and nice stuff, but a quick suggestion...Thicker strings if your going to tune that low, the sound of the lose strings just keeps ringing in my ear...

  • @KamokuHyuuga trust me i know that.. and thats why i have 12-54 daddarios in D standard on that guitar. I'd say thats pretty thick for that tuning... Keep in mind i recorded this with my internal mic on my mac... so thats probably where the ringing is coming from : )

  • Your sound is very cool !

  • wow nice playing

  • Sorry I didn't look further down on the text comments..thank you for anserwing.. Now I just wanted to know what kind of BBE sonic maximizer you were usining..:)

  • the BBE sonic maximizer is it a stompbox you are using or rackmodel 482I..?

Nice riff do you play in a band.? name of the band?

  • @nairbgolf4 its the 482I rackmount version... i actually don't use it anymore, but it sits still in my rackmount

  • hey man what r u playing or is it something u made up because the riff sounds awsome so does the tone

  • @shred902 thats a riff i made up... and it was through a 5150 halfstack with a bbe maximizer in the loop :)

  • Hi, I'm curious to know if you also get a decent clean tone out of those pickups. I heard the high output can muddy up the clean channel. Thank you!

  • @bgblktruck i thought the clean channel wasn't very good with these... Reminded me of the harshness of EMG's.. if your focused more on playing on the clean channel i'd recommend some passive duncans..

  • great guitar-great sound

    Which Viper is that?

  • @mate6 thats the ESP LTD Viper-400 in vintage sunburst.. it originally came with the seymour duncan passives..

  • All I can say is that this is a beauty!

    Good choice

  • yep. your right. definitely D standard. :-)

  • it also sounds like your playing in C standard tuning?

  • @myucussman im pretty sure its D standard on this one.. but if not its def.. C standard then :) i switched from playing in C standard strictly to D standard...

  • First off, I'd like to say: 1. Nice guitar. The Viper is a fantastic guitar. is that a 400 series model? 2. Nice Metal song example. i was digging it. Very BDM like. lol Can I steal it? I'll give you props! lol jk

  • @myucussman as a matter of fact you can have it, haha.. the metal has not been getting much love from me lately :(.. BDM, At The Gates, and Lamb Of God were probably my biggest influences in the metal scene.

  • totally a lamb freak here. give me about a month and you'll be hearing that song on our myspace! Thanks dude!

  • By the way, you look like Tom Hanks lol

  • @anusmister

    HAHAHAHAHA

    HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA

    Block this guy!

  • @anusmister thanks for understanding :) and i see where your coming from too..as for the pickups there very very HOT (high gain). For the genres of metal and style your more into id either check out an EMG 85 in the bridge or some passive pickups (duncans or dimarzios).. Currently in this same guitar, i have a duncan distortion in the bridge (sh-6) and a (sh-2) duncan jazz in the neck... i much prefer this setup.. alot more versatile

  • @nairbgolf4 no metal bands right now.. the main one i was in and started for a few years is still going though..

"Immiserate" they can be found on myspace

  • comparing power metal to this just doesn't make sense.. this is melodic death metal. look into the gothenburg and european stuff. this type of metal has been around along time. and to answer the second question, I mentioned why there good in my first post.. im not looking to bicker about a stupid point, but i couldn't resist when you mentioned one of the only metal bands i still like :)

  • @anusmister saying bands like the black dahlia murder sucks means your not much of a musician yourself.. if you think their song structures, drumming, soloing and vocal arrangement sucks then i would love to hear what you think is good.. it's one thing to not enjoy listening to a band, but to label one as "sucking" while not recognzing the obvious talent is just stubborn.

  • Hi!! I was wondering if you were playing in a metalband..? If you do what is the name of that band...And do you have a myspace page..?

  • metal sucks just sayin

  • then tell me why exactly are you watching this.

  • cuz i can

  • ya they will fit, they will fit on any humbucker route w/ the exception of some direct mount guitars.. some that don't use pickup rings may need a little routing out of the wood... my Ibanez rga121 needed a little routing for the EMG's

  • Blackouts fit on a B.C. Rich Beast. Am I correct? Pleae tell me I am lol..

  • very good! im rockin the blackouts too. glad to see someone demonstrated REAL metal with them. id do it, but....just too drunk

  • cool thanks a lot man!

    great vid aswell!

  • hey i have a jackson warrior wrxt an i want to put blackouts on it. But would they fit?

btw on my jackson theres the same kind of black rim around the pickups as yours.

    thanks

  • yep, they will fit no problem :).. and the black thing around the pickup is called the pickup ring.

  • that is a 5150 halfstack (matching cab) with a BBE sonic maximizer running through the effects loop.

  • what kind of amp are you using? your tone sounds pretty dank. tight riffs also. kind of black dahliaish.

  • Thank you SO MUCH for posting this video!! I've looked forever to find a video of someone playing a Viper that actually knows what they're doing, and here I am researching blackouts and stumble upon this, hah!

The blackouts sound great.. but is that a 1000 series your playing, or the 400?

  • im not sure how to install these with the EMG booster..

And im glad i could be of some help by posting this video. I have owned numerous body shaped ESP's and LTD's and the viper is always what i come back to.. This is a Viper 400. The blackouts were good, but i ended up taking them out because they were just a little to HOT for me. I went back to an EMG 85 in the bridge and a 60A in the neck. Now thats a very good combo for versatility. I seem to prefer the alnico to the ceramic pickup

  • I have heard from various people that the necks on the Viper's are heavy and tend to hang downwards.. is this true?

  • ya this is true. On all 5 of my vipers i have owned, i move the upper strap button to the set-neck joint, similar to a gibson SG. It fixes the problem 100% and makes it super comfy.. If you want me to send you a pic of my guitar with the moved button let me know :)
