Does anyone have the full segment of this interview? I'd like to see it. Treadwell was not a hero ! What he did was wrong! He should have left those bears alone! If you really want to help wildlife, leave them alone! His so called "friends" should have told him that what he did was dangerous. The park official should have banned him from Katmai National Park, and the media (i.e. talk show hosts like David Letterman) should never have given him any publicity or made a hero out of him.

@AtheisMisReality I don't believe it has been released yet. The blonde in the movie, the heavy girl, his friend, she has it. She hasn't destroyed it because she probably knows it might be worth money.
But, if you look for the book that was written on the situation - I found it in the animal/wildlife section of Barnes & Noble, you can read some of it there. Also, listen to the comments in the movie. They talk about it. And google it. There has been a lot written on this by wildlife experts.

Don't people realize that he wasn't concerned with being eaten? That didn't matter to him. The girl that was with him was an adult and made an adult decision to go. She knew the dangers because he knew the dangers. He knew the dangers because he often says so in his footage. He was working to protect the bears. He brought us the best wild Grizzly footage we have. He was there at a time that he wasn't normally and paid for it. I bet most of you haven't done anything as meaningful in your life.

@unc041992 he wasn't concerned about being eaten? maybe in theory, no, but when it was actually happening, he was begging for his girlfriend to save his life, to find a weapon, anything to beat the bear off with. Its very easy to say u don't care about dying - until that moment when u r looking death in the face. I can assure you, read the transcripts from the audio during the attack - when it came down to the reality of it, he was VERY concerned about being eaten.

Respond to this video. yeah, he was "protecting" bears on protected park land where the poaching wasn't even an issue. And in the VERY few videos he had of people who were there "hurting" the bears - like photographers- he filmed them from the underbrush, he didn't even have the guts to come out and confront them. he THOUGHT he was protecting the bears, but if anything, he made them more accustomed to human company, the main thing you do NOT want to do with wildlife.

@beeroosterm Correction: Firearms are prohibited in Katmai National Park Alaska, he was just plain lucky to have lasted 13 years which made him overly confident in his abilities. Another correction, he never "declared any intention to die by grizzly," however, by crawling up to bears and touching them and their cubs showed complete disregard for his life and Amie's. And she just simply made the mistake of trusting him. I do support gun rights by the way, but not in the national parks.

My only lament is for his girlfriend, and to a lesser extent, the two bears that were killed. It was her own stupidity in trying to kill a bear with a frying pan that got her killed, not Treadwell. When people like that idiot Treadwell condition the bears to lose their fear of humans, they set in motion the series of events that culminate in the bears' deaths. So yes, Treadwell was very much involved in two bears getting shot. Think about it from the rangers' perspective. If man-eating bears are allowed to continue killing humans, the public's reaction would be "You guys KNEW about this!?!?"

@lukeclews When the rangers came for the bodies, a second bear attacked them and they were forced to kill it. And as for Treadwell being "prepared," no offense, but don't kid yourself. The only way to be prepared for a grizzly attack is to pack high-caliber heat and be ready to use it at a moment's notice. The bears didn't need Treadwell's "protection" and he was clearly a raving lunatic for thinking they did. His actions only harmed the bears and had the potential to kill his fellow man.

He knowingly took his own life, and his girlfriends life (who was NOT comfortable with the whole thing), and as far as I'm concerned, they're both dead because of him.
And who suffers for it? His family. Her family. I have a hard time feeling sorry for him.
