  • I had a 2006 GLI with the DSG trans. it does shift very fast, faster then any human can shift manually

  • So would a regular 2.5l (170hp) golf keep up with a GTI if the GTI has manual gears and the regular Golf manual? I doubt it... plus manual transmissions are usually marginally more efficient in accelerating? Did the R have the traction control on?

  • I dont understand this vid. "I stuck right with him with his DSG", you accelerated to what looks like 50 mph on a public road, not much of a test!

  • combination of added weight and drivetrain loss with awd system. im sure dsg played a part as well, like you mentioned

  • What's the point of owning a gti if you get it in automatic. Yeah it's faster but kills so much of the fun of driving them. My 11' gti k04 will shred a golf r. Comparing 2 stock models is pointless everyone that owns a gti has at least stage 1. $500 for 50 hp and 80 tq

  • @VooDooDeeZy and a APR Stage for MK5 gti would shred your gti AND the golf r , ahaha :DDD

  • Well i own the R with stage 2 with full exhaust ECU and cold air and there is no way any front wheel drive car will keep up i also own a MK4 R32 twin turbo and the R is much more fun

  • You know for that matter since were on the VW subject I'm even wondering about the GT2rs and the porsche turbo s with that all-wheel drive it's brutal on the tarmac the GT2rs actually looses power at certain celsius degrees like 60 to 80 BHP when it's hot, well I see that marketing is the greatest tool to sell anything!!!!

  • I wonder is it all hype with the R and the GTI does six-speeds really make a difference in how much faster the car can go perhaps the all-wheel drive may give it a slight advantage.???

  • You could go stage 3 with the GTI for less than $10,000 and be A LOT faster than the R

  • no Nathan ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, no subscribing...:{

  • old man can drive nicely...with skill :D

  • GOLF R IS THE WINNER!

  • wat a stupid race jst line up next to each other

  • fake

  • This was stupid!!!! Put the cars side by side and step on the gas. Lets see who crosses the finish line faster. Lots of golf R haters out there, don't know why. Oh, I know, they can't afford it

  • @ezes6zy What you just said is stupid. I can't afford it either but I don't hate on it. It's an awesome car.

  • DSG vs DSG friend.. You cant compare the Manual with the DSG.. And with mods, the Manual does NOT have a Torque converter like DSG does. And yes the DSG changes gears in 400 milliseconds.. so a lack of skill is there comapred to DSG.

  • Yea...that Golf R would have continued to gain. You've got a much better turbo setup in that Golf R. And with all this "chip the GTI" stuff. Yea you would gain around 50hp, but you will also squeeze 300+hp out of the Golf R it it was chipped.

  • Fuel pump and cam follower will go out in the Golf R pretty quick. Not worth 35 grand until VW puts a more reliable engine in it.

  • If you pick the Golf R with DSG, he'll be flying away... manual vs DSG = 1sec difference

  • I'd be very interested to see a DSG GTI vs. a DSG R (even though they won't be available here in the US) That would be a perfect comparison to see just how much the extra power helps. My guess is that the added weight of the AWD system negates most of the power advantage. Still, there's no doubt that the R is even more drop-dead gorgeous than the already great looking GTI, and I'm sure it drives like a dream.

  • How is the GTI "keeping up" if the Golf R had a little over a second lead while continuing to gain? A one second lead is huge in racing terms. In corners, the Golf R's AWD has more grip for a faster exit speed, so it can get back on the throttle earlier and harder than the GTI. That's why the Golf R is in a higher stock racing class than the GTI- it's common knowledge that it's faster than the GTI. It's also the better option if the driver needs more grip to tackle snowy or icy conditions.

  • DSG makes for faster and smoother shifting. Also do we forget that the AWD system is heavier and also creates more parasitic lose of power????

  • Not surprised...awd loss, and the GTI is lighter, and underrated by VW. Still love the Golf R though, just wish it came with over 300hp. Too easy to pay $599 for a stage 1 "50" hp gain in an otherwise stock GTI too.

  • Well, my earlier comment isn't true anymore... Just picked up a white R today haha.

  • 35k? holy shit it's 65k + here in AUS. If i lived in America i could buy it before i finished Uni..

  • I like the R but what would I know... I drive a Jeep.

  • Quite honestly, as an owner of a few subaru's, it takes a lot more skill and practice to launch an AWD car with an manual trans and I'm sure any WRX owner will attest to that.

  • How much weight does the AWD add?

  • @fantomtuba prolly around 500lbs... dont quote me on that. haha

  • @oaklandcar Actually you copied our intro. We've been using it longer than your channel has been around. So yes...you are welcome.

  • Comment removed

  • @oaklandcar Here's our first use of the iMovie intro: v=CBDpkqj_wmM : That was over two years ago. Your channel or your videos didn't even exist back in 2010. Please don't make anymore false claims. Thanks!

  • @oaklandcar Troll seeking for attention eh?

  • @oaklandcar your a douche

  • @patman99290 took the words out my mouth.

  • you could buy a speed3 for 10 grand less and rape the R32 day to day

  • didn't these guys admit to staging this?

  • @MrFlyinhigh No we didn't. What you see is what happened. We don't stage anything.

  • @romanmicagearguy Ok , just something I read on one of the forums I visit, Like everything though most just like to talk without actually knowing whats going on.

  • @MrFlyinhigh No worries. In our vids what you see is what really happened.

  • Thank's for the video guys. I know it's tough to make a decent video when VW only lets you drive the cars for 30 minutes and even tells you where to drive. Maybe on the next one they will let you have them for an entire day on a track. Great videos though and keep them coming.

  • @SuperQuantumMechanic Thanks for the nice comments. It can be a bit tricky to make a good video at these events and we appreciate your smart words

  • 280 or 256 hp?

and you should compare them on a track with curves and turns that's where the all wheel drive will make the difference ... you foo ...

and i believe that the R is much more thrilling than the GTI just listen to it ...

both car are great and the GTI is an icon but that doesn't mean it's more preferment than the R ....YOU FOO

  • This is not knowing anything about cars... -.-

Between Golf R and Golf R Sportec SC350 (wich has 350hp) is less difference than half second in 0-60mph...

    Same thing here.

But try starting from 60mph; accelerate from there to... 120, for example. You will see if there is a difference or not.

Or try 0-60 in a hard slope.

(Then is the DSG vs Manual factor, but thats the minor problem).

Btw, if you cant go to 120mph... come to Germany ;)

  • I like your video, tough. But I just needed to say that, xD.

  • For most of us R drivers its just about owning the car. I drive a MK4 R32.IMO, yes the Golf R is worth the extra 10k because it's not a car for everyone, there is a limited crowd (such as me). Limited car + it's once every 4 years we get the privilege to buy this car. More people would be whining and bching if the Golf R wasn't coming to America at all, would that have made you happier? A lot of enthusiasts would say no.

Once you go .:R you never go back. (:

  • for 10k I'm gonna grab a used S2000

  • he couldn't get away because this junk has 30hp more then the gti and weighs 300lbs more. therefore it cancels out. the golfR is all show and NO GO. go spend another 10 grand in mods then maybe it can compete against a stock STi

  • This car couldn't drive away because it's a piece of shit, that was detuned because it has overheating issues. good luck trying to get half the power with the garbage TSI engine as you could get out of a Boxer/Mivec/3.0t 135i.

for $35 grand give me a loaded 370z with 330hp and built like a tank. keep your gay ass 4motion and faggoty LEDs in the front. i'll take a REAL sports car, if I wanted AWD I would get an Evo..

  • @thedenimvault yea have fun with your nissan rust bucket. nuts and bolts will rust themselves to your friggen face then you will realize what a shitbox nissan makes...nissan and infinity take the cheap way into makeing their hardware, they take recycled metals but dont remove the gunk that floats to the top during melting process.

  • @Universound57 lol first of all it's INFINITI. since you can't spell the car company do you honestly think you know anything about their steel making process? where did you read that propaganda? vwvortex? please.. nissan gets 94% consumer reports ratings. vw gets 73%. typical german garbage.

  • Keep in mind the GTI has more than 200 hp. 200 is what you get using 91 octane. APR tested a stock GTI with 93 octane and reports 216 HP and 227 TQ. If the R's HP and TQ numbers are under reported by VW too then this is a moot point. If not, the 'real' HP of the GTI compared the extra HP/TQ, and extra weight of the R, might explain why the R didn't pull harder.

  • is the gti automatic trans?

  • I have got a GTI (in France, it's 210 hp for the GTI and 270 for the R), and every wet day, I regret not having spend 8000€ for a R...

  • id rather have a fsi/tsi gti with an apr k04, intake and exhaust, and chipped. that would prolly smoke a gti r, and cost less doing so :D

  • What a fucking ignorant way to compare two cars. Secondly I wonder what the driver of the r launched at. Because the GTI with dsg since it had factory launch control can only launch at like 3500 while the r can be launched at 5500 and still hold traction.

  • This old man doesn't know how to drive with stick

  • the most powerful engine they put in a golf was the 6.0 W12 engine...also not 10,000 dollars more like 3-4G more GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT TFL!

  • Last thing im saying, YES, DSG is much better than your own hand, its really fast. So, in my opinion, the lack of skill is on the GTI drivers seat. Enough said!

  • I would take the R any time. This guys on the GTI know nothing about driving, the Golf R is pushing away all the air, why dont they try it with the GTI in front so we can see who is faster? And YES I would pay $10,000 more for an AWD, they should do some cornering and see that those extra $10,000 are worth it!

  • Who Cares!

  • Don’t get your pantaloons in a twist, Roman. I only said that your “drag race” wasn’t a race, although it was a drag that the –R only won by a hair (but not a $10K hair). For a true test, the cars should have been wrung out on a race course, ala Top Gear. As someone who plans to buy a GTI and/or a –R in the near future, I did find your video informative, but I’d prefer a real comparison test. I, too, would like to see a DSG –R come to the states. Meanwhile, stop with the patronizing retorts.

  • @BarefootSerpent well said

  • Am I the only one that sees that the R starts to pull away at 1:35 ?

  • I don't agree with this video at all. Roman has said before that he loved the GTI but in order to make it perfect he would want 3 things and these were:

    1) more power

    2) all wheel drive to eliminiate any chance of torque steer

3)better brakes to handle all that power

..and now he is unfairly stating that the same apple to apple comparison places a $10,000 gap which puts the base GTI up against the base R and this is misleading because the base R is far better equipped.

  • @TheWrewster it comes with leather and HIDs and shitty AWD for $10 grand. lol! the 4motion is a joke, cant even adjust the diff settings like on an evo or sti.

  • HAHA I love how personally people take these vids. Who knows how legitamite this really is? How much fuel? Full tank vs empty. If he was was florring it or not. HP doesn't necessarily equate to more accelleration either - Torque does... was he readlining the R? There are so many varients here... people - chill!

  • Answering "Is the DSG better then my hand?" is easy.

YES IT IS better, although I am not familiar with great job your hand can do, surely.

  • it takes the extra power of the golf r to drive all four wheels. even if both cars had same gearbox, the extra power is cancelled out by driving all four wheels. mileage is worse too, for same reason.

  • do these idiots know the dsg is quicker ? ive seen about 20 gti's in the past week, and only 1 R, mine!

  • @jubei1000000 thats because everyone thinks your golf R is a $17k golf. even GTI looks better lOL!

  • golf R looks like a big waste of money, especially when theres other AWD cars that are faster, better performing, and cheaper... they also look better. we all know what im talking about.

  • @Dart00Z Cool story, bro.

  • @xmbh21x hahahahaha you're trolling everywhere...get a life dude.

  • The reason? WEIGHT.

  • This car couldn't drive away because it's a piece of shit, that was detuned because it has overheating issues. good luck trying to get half the power with the garbage TSI engine as you could get out of a Boxer/Mivec/3.0t 135i.

  • Get a $400 Revo chip and either car is significantly faster. The Golf R is worth buying bc it will depreciate a lot less, similar to the original R32, since it's a manual. The MKV R32's with the DSG are sitting all over used car lots. Just keep your eye on the cam follower issue as the R model still uses the older 2.0T (timing belt) vs the GTI's updated 2.0T (timing chain, relocated cam follower).

  • Try this on snow now....

  • Why am I watching this gay video, time to watch some GTRs race, what a gay car lol

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO

I have been so torn with the R only being available with 6 speed vs. the DSG. This video has been a a big help for me!!!!

  • GTI was in the R's draft! Of course it would keep up. It wasn't working as hard.

  • @jurm666 The R is $35k, the point is there was no DSG on the R. If it had DSG it would be a completely different story.

  • i have a DSG gti and while it is very quick, there is nothing like the using the clutch

  • GTI was shake n' baking of course it kept up

  • i will get a stick just for that awesome jerk..

  • gti 210 hp, golf r 270 hp in germany

  • If you get an APR stage one which is an ECU mod it puts the GTI upto about 250 HP give or take 20 each way depending on what other mods you have done.. I usually enjoy watching this guys videoes but this one is GARBAGE a Golf R would smoke a GTI, R keeps up with some of the other 2nd tier class cars, like the WRX.. You get the idea.

  • It's called drive train loss a AWD car loses far more horsepower from the engine to the wheels then a FWD or RWD car would.

  • @Reiem125 wrong, the haldex crap awd system is 99% fwd unless you are losing traction. it's not like an STI or EVO that 40/60 rear bias at all times.

  • @ina04gli18t You can throw all the HP you want at the GTi, but it still goes to two wheels. Your wheels would be chirping for 5 minutes before you got anywhere. Don't even get me started about the handling difference between the R and GTi when it comes to driving in a more realistic situation, ie not in a straight line.

  • @stuhoo you just gotta learn how to drive a fwd car with lots of power.

  • @stuhoo what are you talking about. the gti and r will get similar lap(unless you're racing on snow) the r has only a measily 30hp more. 10 grand more for leather, xenons, crappy awd system and 30 hp? LOL!

  • The R has a K04 turbo and only makes 256 HP Put APR's K04 and software in the GTI and the GTI will have 366 HP and 380 lb. ft. of torque. Who do you think will win that race ?

  • 3. The R is pushing air, GTI gets to slipstream

    4. Looks like the R was pulling away at the end prior to cut.

End of the day, entertaining video, love both cars. Way harsh on the R's performance, when it clearly looks to be a driver issue (lack of a well executed hard launch)

  • Hmmm interesting little test, I enjoyed the videos, but the end opinions seem to be a little unfair. I assumed launch control was used with the GTI? And even otherwise DSG will be quicker off the line...

    Couple of things.

    1. You show Bob 'pushing' the R at the tail end of the video to display his driving ability. However we don't see him demonstrating a AWD hard launch...which would be the main area for 'human error' if you will versus a DSG launch.

    2. Bob seems to slow when he sees traffic

  • LETS BE REAL:

THE GTI HE WAS DRIVING HAD THE DSG AND LEATHER (AUTOBAHN PACKAGE) THAT PUTS THE GTI AT ABOUT $30,000. SO ONLY $3000 LESS THAN THE R.

SO SAYING THE R IS $10,000 MORE THAN HIS GTI IS WRONG. IF HE WAS DRIVING A 6-SPEED THEN THAT WOULD BE ACCURATE.

    RIGHT GOLF FANS?

  • @Zagaza2010 Probably the smartest youtube comment ive ever read.

  • @Zagaza2010 idiot, a loaded gti and loaded r is $6000 more. the difference is you can buy a gti for $23 but the golf r only comes with crap installed at $34... $11 grand for awd , hids, and some bullshit leather seats.

  • @thedenimvault fuck man, did u even watch the video? He compared a car with DSG and a car with a 6-speed. Of course the 6-speed will be slower. The cars had a $3000 difference, not $10,000 you dumbass.

  • @Zagaza2010 it's $10 grand you fucking moron. $24k for a gti and $34k for an R. who cares about faggot leather and awd. and 6 speed is faster, because you can rev higher. obviously you don't know shit cars, go back to your DSG with your gay friends on vortex

  • @thedenimvault << Clueless on so many levels, I feel embarrassed for you. Your statements have about as much traction as a GTi off the line... i.e. not much.

  • @stuhoo cool comeback, of course you also don't know shit about cars, i'ts pathetic. Let VWOA tell you what you should and shouldn't buy.. because you can't afford a BMW, Audi, MB, STi, Evo, etc.

  • @thedenimvault The DSG is a dual clutch transmission.....it shifts faster than any human can. If anyone says otherwise, they're to trying to make up for their shortcomings. I read your other comments too, and if you hate VW or the GTI so much, why did you even bother watching the video?

  • @fanfinmiami completely agree if they did this test with the same transmission it would be way more accurate of a test

  • @thedenimvault the guy reviewing FULLY LOADED a GTI, so its $3000 less than the base R. Get It? How old are you btw? 12?

  • @Zagaza2010 if you're going to compare a fully loaded GTI you should compare it to a fully loaded golfR, not the base model crap that doesn't have prem audio or navi lol. not only that, the golf R is a joke. it's interior is a joke for $34k based on a $17,000 golf platform and a WRX can spank it on the track for $8 grand less. it doesn't have performance or luxury thats why they only make 5000 of them because they can't find enough idiots to buy them. only europe cares about vw.

  • @thedenimvault "if you're going to compare a fully loaded GTI you should compare it to a fully loaded golfR" <-- exactly. the guy in the vid isn't doing it. Get it?

  • @Zagaza2010 he doesn't have to. bottom line is you can get into a gti for $24. you need $34 to get into an R. because VW forces you to buy bullshit options the niche market doesn't want. if they made a base R for $30 maybe it would make sense. $34 base $37 loaded is a joke.

  • @thedenimvault doesnt matter, dsg vs 6-speed isnt fair either way. stop being an idiot and read my first post

  • @Zagaza2010 why isn't it fair? DSG is heavy tranny only slows GTI down. DSG helps 0-60 times .2 seconds lol.

  • @Zagaza2010 I have a manual black GTI and it cost me $25k with xenon lights, sunroof, stereo.

  • @Zagaza2010

agreed, a GTI with the same leather sunroof and Nav option will run a GTI pretty close to the R, yet the R is AWD better handling and has better braking. AWD makes it a tank in the snow considering the base GTI with snows is pretty damn good

  • @Zagaza2010 RIGHT!!!! I would pay those $3000 for the AWD, who cares about DSG or leather in this car?!?!

  • The only problem with the DSG is the drivability problems you will have after a few thousand miles. Rough shifts, jerking, hesitation, slow engagement when shifting out of park, etc, etc. The DSG has been in the GTI in the US since 2006, and the new models still have the same problem. Don't believe me? Google rebiews for this car with the DSG and check all of the complaints. I had a DSG in a '08 GTI. Never again. It's manuals for me from now on.

  • If you guys think R20 has price premium only for the sake of being fast in the straight line, you guys need to go back to your house and do your homework. You guys don't think about the difference in handling from different suspension and AWD/FWD?

This discussion has been beaten to death in 2004 and 2008 GTI vs. R32s.

  • Roman Mica has clearly never seen a drag race in his life. Either that or he's an idiot. You start the cars side-by-side for a drag race. Should have taken them to a track for a real drag race.

  • @BarefootSerpent FYI: We had access to both cars for about a half hour in the middle of rural Maryland. We were given an assigned drive route by VW. It would have been completely dangerous and illegal to drag with one car in the wrong lane (side-by-side as you say). We did not have access to an automatic Golf R since VW is not bringing them to the U.S. I think the video we produced is pretty fun and even a bit enlightening so....please stop with the smug I'm smarter than you comments already.

  • @romanmicagearguy Great comment !! If you had tried the side by side race right at the start there was a car coming. You did the right thing as you were time limited. The Golf R is $39,000 Canadian plus HST and other crap. Way to much unless you can store it in the winter. Love watching your reviews !!! Just wish the prices were the same up here.

  • @romanmicagearguy

Roman, it's not enlightening when you are back on what you have stated in previous reviews, it's more like waffling. Atleast be fair to go 6spd GTI against 6spd R and where are the hardcore turns to showcase the true benefits of AWD. And there is approx a $5,555 difference in price between autobahn GTI vs nav/sunroof R which both have similar features. In my opinion I was thinking of autobahn GTI and I already ordered the R because I live in upstate NY and we get snow.

  • @BarefootSerpent

BarefootSerpent clearly doesn't read video titles. (NOSE TO TUSH DRAG RACE!) either that or he's a stupid twat. you read the title before you watch the video. you should have watched gay porn.

  • golf R is just the same as a audi RS3 both 4WD 2.0 T german ect just a different shell

  • @dazzy6961 nope rs3 has 2.5t

  • Your test was not faire ! the R was manual . the GTI was staying in the back of the R and it didn't suffer from the same air resistence as the R .. you should try with the GTI starting first and the R behind

  • @romanmicagearguy What about GTI vs. Golf R vs. R32 ???? please do that review!!!

  • it's all bullshit.

Take both cars with DSG en chip tune the GTI. than they both have 350Nm torque.

    Than we have a match.

I swear the GTI will kick asses and expecially on track.

  • @aygo87 You are wrong. A tune on the TSI only takes it to 245 whp with a downpipe, and APR on Golf R makes it a 308whp car 330 to the crank, downpipe and 3" exhaust, your dealing with a smaller ko3 turbo, compared to the larger ko4 in the Golf R. So all in all a tune gives the Golf R the power from the factory an upgraded ko4 kit does to the GTI.

  • @kyle7300

Actually the engines are quite different. The TSI in the Golf GTI is newer and direct injected, but lacks the Audi Valvelift system that's in the Golf R's TFSI.

It'll be interesting to see what APR is able to get out of the TFSI with a few more years of development. The TSI now puts out 366bhp with a K04 upgrade, which is quite a bit more power than the TFSI can currently do with the same turbo.

  • the engines are completely different, but a k04 is a k04, its not going to make more or less peak power depending on which engine its in. The FSI, is the old mkv/a3 motor just with beefed up rods, for the k04. If you look you'll now advertise most ko4 kits having "Golf R" turbo. The TSI is a better motor all around, eliminating the whole cam follower situation, which on the Golf R I will still have to check regularly, which Im fine with.

  • @luminaeus My buddy has a mk6 GTI with the APR ko4 kit, carbonio, and RSC, and put down 318whp, so The Golf R with stage 2 tune, 3" turbo back, and carbonio, will put down slightly better numbers with the Haldex fuse out. Im going APR stage 3 right off the bat (1000 miles) so Im not worried about k04 between the two, its obvious the TSI is a better engine, but I have faith in VW choosing to back track. Wish it had the 2.5t though...

  • @kyle7300

Check the dyno charts, apparently APR is still working on their tunes because the Golf R puts out basically the same amount of power (325hp) whether you just ECU tune it or upgrade everything except the turbo. Once you slap on the big turbo it hops up to 400hp.

Going back to the old engine was cost savings move. Cheaper to reuse that than to redesign the TSI engine to use the K04 necessary for a smooth torque curve.

  • @aygo87

Nope. Golf R has K04 and Audi Valvelift. Even if you upgrade the GTI to a K04 it still won't have the same top end power as the R because the engine in the R has a separate cam profile for high RPMs.

  • Please stick to bingo and viagra granpaw

  • For the money get a Subaru WRX and lay waste to both of these cars. Hell for 2 grand more than the Golf R you can get an STI and really make these cars disappear in the rearview mirror.

  • @johnniesi

Not a chance. Subie fans always imagine a Ken Block style smokey AWD power slide, but in reality, the WRX is far too underpowered to do anything except get bogged down under the weight of its massive AWD system.

Not to say the WRX isn't a great car. I'd love to have one for the winter. But on the track (with an APR Stage 1 ECU tune) the only real competition for the GTI & R will be from the Evo X MR.

  • Comment removed

  • @johnniesi Cool story, bro.

  • to properly test the vehicles should be dsg just saying (yes i know in the states only manual is available) also the golf r is not a upgraded gti it is a upgraded golf and for a fully loaded gti to the standard golf r which also has a k04 turbo stock it is only about a 5 grand jump i would say its worth it since better suspension better exhaust bigger turbo and awd 5 grand is worth it to me

  • oh wow… do they not know that awd is a lot harder to get right with manual? unless you're a racing driver you shouldnt expect to get really good times with a stick shift golf r

  • Noobs, learn to drive. I love my DSG MK6 R and its much faster than my brothers MK6 GTI DSG...so...

  • ok... GTI with options $28,000 Golf R $32,500 same options. $4,500 difference Golf R has a K04 turbo and the GTI has a smaller KO3.

KO4 TSI $4,999,00 from APR So there is your price difference

+ better seats, AWD, Center Exhaust, and better looking front bumper.

Yeah its worth it as I am trading my 2010 MK6 for a Golf R

  • As strange as it sounds, you really shouldn't compare this car with the GTI. "R" is now VW's in-house performance division. Unlike the GTI, which is handled directly by VW, just the same as a Passat or Polo would be. The R division took the Golf (not the GTI) and gave it AWD, a MUCH better suspension, far more aggressive looks, larger tires, infinitely more powerful brakes, and round about 110 more horsepower, not 60 like everyone thinks. It isn't called a GTI R. It's a Golf R.

  • The R is still going to come locked due to US safety restrictionsi would think, if unlocked that golf R should be flying

  • @MrPaulista26 please quit talking. you don't even have the slightest idea of what you're talking about. the US-Spec R comes with lower power due to the USA being considered a "warmer climate" that would require an upgraded intercooler to keep the temps down. an upgraded intercooler would cost VW lots of money.

  • These two guys are stupid, compare DSG to DSG, Golf R vs Golf GTI, 4 wheel drive with launch control vs front wheel drive no launch control.

  • tune both of the cars, THEN see which one wins.

  • agree'd the manual golf r is almost a second slower from 0-60 so obviously if they were both DSG's the Golf-R would smoke it from start to top out. ;] i love how they've always gotta try and put an unrealistic twist on these videos lol. Nice try but if anyone with a brain has seen the videos of the DSG Golf R and the Manual Golf R the manual was doing zero to sixty in around 6.6 seconds and the dsg was consistently doing 0-60 in 5.7 seconds. :] again nice try guys.

  • @roochiecooch the dsg coming to the states is going to be manual only....so in the U.S thats a very realistic twist.

  • Its that dsg tranny!

  • Like shit it didnt get away haha! U cut the video.....

  • And my MK4 R32 is still faster.

  • @damnlogin No it's really not but okay.

  • Cannot agree with them, i lost a few times agains a Golf R with my Golf Gti DSG. The Golf R ist definately the stronger car

  • This video is no representation of how much faster the Golf R is, its a demonstration of illegal street racing. The Golf R is considerably faster than a DSG GTI, take it to the track with a competant driver and you'll see.

  • wan a know what i think about the gti keeping up with the golf R? Well first of all your's is DSG and has launch control, faster than manual option (but for pussies) and the golf R pulled away like a bat out of hell you just cut the footage before it showed that, fucking spastic

  • @BoyOfSteel101 seams like a "pussy" can beat you in a race.. fucking fag. tbh i have a dsg gti and its more fun than my friends manual gti. its exactly like a manual without a clutch pedal. plus u have 2 clutches for precise shifting... and has a better sound when changing gears. oh and btw f1 drivers don't use manual anymore.. are u saying they're pussies?

  • @Joegtibmp08 you didn't listen to me, the Golf R manual is faster, and the DSG is for people who can't drive manuals, you don't buy a driver's car... in automatic, unless you are a fucktard, such as yourself, i know how the DSG works so you don't have to explain it poorly for me, and F1 drivers use million dollar technologies to win millions of dollars, for that I'd drive automatic swell, but this is for the fun of driving these cars, two different things... ya mum.

  • The golf R is both faster out of the box and has more potential than a GTI. The GTI is an awesome car, and surely more desirable than anything else in its price range. However, you can't really add AWD to a GTI aftermarket, and swapping the K03 for a K04 would be a substantial chunk of money too, not to mention the body kit and suspension and whatnot. The GTI is a fun car. The Golf R is for people who were already in the market for a fully loaded GTI and want to tack on AWD+some extra power.

  • not quite sure the golf r is worth the huge price difference. AWD is nice in HEAVY snow, but for a regular commuter it doesnt go noticed. I like the leather... but the GTi seems just as capable.

To be honest, VW should have stuck the R with 300 horses, to make it competitive with other price range cars..and the GTI NEEDS more than 200 lbs...a civic SI beats that :-/

  • @ThePirateMD civic si has no torque and the gti stock will always beat a stock si btw..

  • @ThePirateMD No. What they should have done was kept the VR6.Add a little turbo to a VR6 and your shitting fire

  • @ThePirateMD ? A SI beating GTI's stock for stock is news to me.

  • You kept up to circa 60mph but hey no surprise when the 0-60 times are about 1 second apart! The real show is beyond 60mph when BHP really starts to count.

    Golf R 0 - 100mph = 13 secs

    Golf GTi 0 - 100mph = 16 secs

At 1:36 in the video the R starts pulling away.......

  • @814gt a regular wrx 2011 can't beat a golf r u idiot.... if ur talking about the STI it would be worth 8k more so obviously i think the STI would win u idiot..

fuck ricers it's .:R all the way

  • he can't shift.....
