No need to apologize for jamming to this performance...it's fabulous and I'm SO grateful to you for catching this on video. Nobody should ever fuck with SRV...except JM!!!!
@TheGibsonman1959 Someone can't let go of their generation. Fact is you're right, but you really need to open your eyes & ears. There is a new generation of talent; that includes John Mayer. He, Joe Bonamassa, Derek Trucks, and John Frusciante are the new pack leaders. My point is there are a lot of new players that are fantastic. They may never be up to SRVs level but they will sure get close and just do their own thing/style. Don't be so quick to hate on talent just because they aren't Stevie.
@surfer1211 Yea... Dude i was born 4 years after Stevie died. I do like stuff from today, BUT very few things. One badass group i like are The Black Key's ... Bitchin Blues sound. Derek Trucks is cool. Im not hating, i just don't like the guy.
@TheGibsonman1959 Okay, I got the age thing wrong. I was born a year after he died ('91.) The Black Keys are also one of my favorite bands and I enjoy Derek Trucks a lot. BK have awesome songs that aren't very technically difficult; DT is one of the top few guitarists of this generation hands down. I just personally prefer JM. And that decision wasn't made after only listening to him; its come after really listening to a lot of other bands and players. And what JM has that most others don't is
@TheGibsonman1959 Versatility. He can hop through genres that he is unfamiliar to with an incredible ease. Recently he's taken a much more folk approach to his tunes. A lot of people push JM aside because they think he's garbage due to his pop songs, which musically are far from pop. Check out songs like Neon, the music is based in Jazz like a lot of his other songs (or blues/funk.) My point is just because he was a "pop prince," for awhile guitar heads, especially SRV lovers, have a hard time..
@TheGibsonman1959 giving him respect & taking him seriously. JM is a phenomenal player and deserves more respect. I respect that you dislike him, whether that be musically or personally, but I think you gotta give his music a second look. His tunes are really technically tough and a lot of thought goes into them. Not to mention SRV was his idol! Whats there to hate about that?
/watch?v=Pphe3SPtyUQ Check out his cover of Voodoo Child. Hopefully this will help you change your mind a tiny bit! Hah.
6:04-7:35, everyone listen to that and listen to it a few more times. I may not like John Mayers's popish stuff, but I'm sure as hell glad he is carrying on the legacy of Stevie and other players so that other people realize what they've missed.
And I also want to thank Stevie; because of him I've never gotten involved with any of that foolish shit! Thanks Stevie! And rock on John!
Dang I wish I could have seen this live. I was in Dallas not long before this. I left a week before this concert. Man I wish I would've stayed in Dalls. Dang!! Oh well....
One of my favorite songs. COLD SHOT! I'm a very big SRV fan. JM does a great job.
First off I'd Kill to actually have seen SRV live. But Yeah I def. woulda loved to see him do this. Fantastic cover! oh yeah And I'd kill to have that guitar too!
I was really upset because the set list for dallas was placed on the houston page before the show. So who ever made that mistake had me thinking it was the set list for houston and had me pumped! ugh! I would die to be able and see mayer cover cold shot!

This is kinda funny cause I swear to god he was stoned out of his mind when I saw him a few days later in Knoxville.
But his speech in the middle of Gravity was nothing short of epic, I wish I could find a video of it.
