  • Awesome video. I'm glad Sopa/Pipa isn't around. Probably this thing would've had a take down notice. Knowledge is power. Fuck Censorship on the Web.

  • When you fight someone on the street, the last thing you want to do is get close enough to let him get hold of you. If you end up on the ground, another attacker can kick you in the head. Street fighting is about staying on your feet, and not losing your balance. 90% of street fights are settled with punches. The ones that go to the ground are usually settled with biting, gouging, or a headlock. There's very little grappling in a street fight. Boxing skills come in handy, most of the time.

  • @cypresscoach You got some of your facts wrong. The majority of street fights go to ground based on surveys. I think a good boxer wins hands down in a "fair fight" with rules and with a referee but finding a ref. on the street is hard to come by.

  • Funny how he makes sarcastic remarks about boxers, then spends 4 minutes demonstrating what I teach my young boxers the first week of training. I agree that bobbing and weaving are over-emphasized. I have my novice kids concentrate more on keeping themselves in a balanced stance, so they can throw punches. Some of the punches Bas is teaching to defend against would rarely be thrown in a boxing match, and a boxer would never duck when an opponent is in a position to throw a knee.

  • @cypresscoach Bas is not dicussing boxing , he showing real self defense with no Marquis of Queensbury rules....get it?

  • @jeffsor47 Bullshit. You must be one of those guys who believes MMA is real fighting. It isn't. It's a sport, with a whole bunch of rules.

  • @cypresscoach MMA is as close as one can get for public entertainment. Do you really think boxing is real on the street?, no kicks, eye gouges groin shots etc.? .If a boxer gets a punch in he may be good to go ,if not a skilled street fighter will tear him up. On the street you fight like you train. if the above tactics aren't practiced they won't be there if you need them. MMA has rules but it's as close as the public will tolerate. Boxing is very civilized....are most thugs on the street???

  • Bas rutten is sick

  • Love this guy.

  • Lol yeah that's pretty darn far

  • I wish this guy would be my trainer

  • @Arodblade he could be, you just have to sign up to his Elite MMA gym.

  • @masterknaster The thing is it's on the other side of the country =/

  • @Arodblade lol for me its in a different country...

  • Strange with the straight in street fighting vidz he said about a straight that you can lean backwards as far as you want and the straight will still get you... and here he says its not gonna reach him when he leans backwards.. anyway good vid

  • what if you block the hook.. but the hook goes around and gets your head

  • Bas Rutten and his crazy ass LIVER SHOTZ !!!!!!

  • Bas is da BOSS

  • great stuff and good pointers on blocking punches.

  • thats dude form cartoon network

  • @Rich1beast

    it's Bas Rutten

  • just like Cain Velasquez blocked Junior Dos Santos a month ago!!!! jajajajajaj

  • stupido !

  • 3:43 lols hahahahha

  • but in street fight... if someone use knife... you cant use elbow blocking... too dangerous... finger blocking really help tooo

  • @hanapirokman read the title its MMA not street fight

  • @Luciferman3 opssss... sorry dude.... my fault...

  • ollllllld schooll

  • man that guy looks like he was hit by a train so so damn ugly

  • the block at 1:01 can work if follow up with by grabbing your opponents lead wrist with your left hand and then then follow up with a simultaneous straight right to the chin in a sort of wing chun style action combined with a bit of a side step. no good for MMA but works great in self defence and is usually unexpected. works well when some bouncer tries to grab you by the throat on a friday night;)

  • 4:04 - Boom boom hi.....sup

  • Bas is the MAN!

  • Slipping can be a great way to set up low kicks though...

But yes, parrying should be one of your main tools.

  • You can tell this Guy would kick a Guy's ass lol..

  • i miss the bas days...he was a terrifying fighter

  • Ir para atras? Nunca. Esta equivocado ese pibe.

  • Mma= overrated

  • @1meandoubleR600 your comment, dumb

  • lol wheres he from? hes pretty good

  • @laxskateguy this is the almighty Bas "El Guapo" Rutten. A living legend amongst mixed martial artists.

  • Brilliant!

  • That was cool for my left ear.

  • @guitarcrazed188 same here

  • thats bas rutten damnit hes no chuck lidell and hes not dutch so shut up

  • @isk8erboi He was talking about the other guy...

  • @isk8erboi eehm. he IS dutch. sorry man.

  • Wow. A mixed martial artist with blocking techniques!

  • This guy knows his shit!

  • Interresting ^^ In karate, that guard is called Maeba, and those blocks are called Soto Uke... looks like Martials arts have invented all of that c"enturies before MMA =P

  • @Sadoruro MMA, MIXED martial arts, MMA takes techniques from as many martial arts as possible, how do you know that he didn't take that from karate?

  • @mjm55 But I'm sure he did ^^ Bas is for me ones of the MMA fighter who repect the most the ancient martials arts. In fact, when you see him fighting, you see that almost all the techniques he used are techniques from martial arts, instead of fighting sport. And I'm glad because he made them be efficient, 'cause he won, prooving to all the Keyboard fighters that only believe in boxing and Thai boxing that Traditionnal martial can be efficients too ^^

  • lol... hes talking and your like yea hes a pretty big dude. the other guy walks in and i just laugh.

  • the guy looks like chuck liddel hahaha

  • 3:44 XD

  • mommy... why is that guy not wearing any cloths? =S

  • @bommobiel thumps downs for this BAD JOKE.

  • Wtf is wrong with his legs?

  • @nogovstyle hes jacked

  • Comment removed

  • How about that, he' using Pak Saos.... and they say Wing Chun is useless

  • ....POW ha ha!! *hooo*

  • Bas Rulez

  • Bang, Bang, Bang....Dangity Dangity Dang!!!

  • bas= the man

  • LMAO .. 2:50 = Fail LOL

  • "Its gonna be wrong for you."

  • to step bacwards for hook is great if u know the opponent is gonna hook u. the truth is there's too little time to react that differently towards whether he hooks or straight punches for head. so if u're stepping backwards from hook range expecting it to be a hook but it's actually a straight u'll still get punched hard because of the reach difference. if u're already in hook range it's best to finish the job and step close enough to be able to utilize takedown techniques safe from being punched

  • @DonMega187 i have 1 word. telegraphing. all newbies do it. i'm no exception. i will say though, if you're fightin someone who knows how to not telegraph, the ground is the place to go

  • Since I have robot arms that throw fast punches, I can experiment a lot with various blocks. Bas' way of blocking is proving to me to be very good and fast. Sometimes though I still over block and I will work on that. I like the open hand method too.

  • @rbt4rbt we'd u got the robot arm??? o.0

  • @TheSudharshan123 I invented them and to come up with them has taken a toll on me. But, they sure are even beyond what I set out to do, so that's the good news. They're not a cure-all, but they certainly have cured a lot with my bad habits and poor speed. Too bad they can't cure this bad virus I got last night. I am wiped out and ticked I can't train on the arms today. I really enjoy those things.

  • LOL at the panic reactions!

  • block, boom, block, boom, blo- EEP - BOOOM!

  • Excelente Bas Rutten eres el mejor.

  • UR mom had panic reactions

  • Lol! I still have some panic reaction sometimes. Need more training

  • @fikotpy i know the feeling. every time my trainers punch at me, i panic and do something stupid lol

  • How do you actually tell where they are gonna punch?

  • @LeetWarfare body language, range, and strategy (same way you know someone is going to move their bishop in chess)

  • @LeetWarfare Natural reactions will take care of that for you, unless you have really shit perception.

  • Anybody wanna tell me why sanshou is NOT a part of the striking curriculum for MMA striking? Seriously Anderson Silva, Bones, Makdessi, or anybody that uses traditional kicks like them would not have as much success in the future if everybody trained sanda kick catches or just sanda in general. Do people even know what Sanshou/ Sanda is? Look this up people!!!

  • @dss103 i have seen sanda videos but if you have a link to a video where it is shown how they catch kicks and how they work it would be interesting to watch.

  • @dss103 Because it's mauy thai thats harder to find & want you to pad up like you are feeding a bear & it offers what? a few more throws & some standing joint locks?

Kenpo is easier to find & has all that & if you do grappling of anykind as well as mauy thai you will learn everything & more then chinese kickboxing has to offer......

BTW Pat Barry & Cung Le have Sanshou backrounds, its a fine art but doesnt offer enough unless the teacher is extrodinary or it's your base.

  • a dutch person with a USA tank is funny

  • I think its always safer to go towards the opponent in time when his attacking and counter attack almost the same time !

  • hey look. its an overweight chuck liddel.

  • Like a bas!

  • Gotta love Bas!

  • how would you block a kick?

  • @st91bp7t Depends on the kick. I suggest you look into muay thai/kickboxing techniques for this, or even better, join a gym that teaches these martial arts!

  • @st91bp7t block it with your shins, its called "checking" for a higher kick youd put ur hand behind your head holding the back of your head.

  • bass i love you .... :-D

  • great video

  • 11 ppl are boxers

  • @ladieslovefelix whats wrong with boxers? i love boxing and kick boxing but my fav one is MMA

  • @liljwhytheme lol nothing is wrong with em i love em :P just the humor of it... that he said unlike the boxing style bobbing and weeving isnt good.... soo my point was those boxers are weevers <-- humor of it ^_^

  • always chuck norris....

BAS RUTTEN CAN KNOCK U OUT WITH A BLOCK !!

  • You nee very fast reflexes and much experiences if you wanna do this.

  • WOOOORD !! I would marry his daughter juss for him to be my father in law !!

  • i would marry his daughter just to be his son in law........!!!

  • @yorkshirerepresenter me too, even if she is ugly as dick,i would marry her, just to hang out with Bas

  • @MrArsenalist

you wont have to worry man... Bas' oldest daughter is pretty hot. but you wouldnt want to say that anywhere near Bas

  • @alastairmctavish yeah,i know,i would get one free "in the liver" shot,ha ha

  • łatwo się mu kurwa gada jak chuj się nawet w kołysce z misiem napierdalał KURWA!!!

It's just look easy but is not

  • @karlik377 lmfao!!!

  • @karlik377 True. The best is to try with a friend until it becomes easy. And you ask your friend to throw more powerful punches as you get better at the technique. I'm starting my MMA classes this week. Can't wait!

  • @karlik377 wow this is easy to all other people this is called parring a punch

  • @karlik377 kurva??

  • a fucking genius"!!!

  • guy who's punching 's mad that he can't hit bas. U can tell from his face

  • You can slip punches staying up. He seems to be talking more about ducking punches which would make you open to kicks and knee strikes.

  • @CrowdPleeza But yet, he's BaS Rutten/

  • Comment removed

  • Bas is a very smart fighter and this video is right on. I have incorporated a lot of his teaching (from this and from many other videos) in my fight game and i feel it has helped me improve.

  • he moves like a robot designed to fight

  • Its ok he says what part of boxing that doesnt work in MMA, but he is almost like he also knows what works better in boxing ?

  • Just relaaaaaaaax....ah ah ah....great Bas...this ideo is very basic but is efficent

  • very interesting.

  • but you are a coward cause when i gave you a hard time you start calling me a rapist

    WHAT A FUNNY SENTENCE :D

  • This guy is awesome!! Straight to the fucking point!!

  • Oh, I've seen posts like this before... You guys are on some personal vendetta now... These posts tend to get angry. lol

About the clip, I think Bas is always offering simple, no nonsense fighting advise. He doesn't slag off the boxing technique... He just simple says for a man of his size & in MMA it might not work as well. Then he offers a good (Muay Thai influenced) alternative defence.

  • dang he's fast !

  • Why not counter always?

  • bas is a fighting genius

  • @chemachandran He is great, wish he was my teacher!

  • Bas makes good points, but it's like he forgot that you have two arms. As a Karateka I learn to block and counter pretty much the same time. If your not going to counter instantly this is excellent strategy, but the wide blocking movements are so we can create an opening to close in on. Don't flame me about karate, if you do it just means you're an ignorant twat tard. But still, Bas is a beast. One of the few MMA fighters I actually have high respect for.

  • @HairofSteel555 cunt

  • @stopcicles Wow, I agreed with Bas ad you called me a cunt still? What does make you MMA nutriders happy nowadays?

  • @HairofSteel555 You agreed with him in the cuntiest way possible. Just had to make sure everyone knew how legit your karate is and how much you don't respect MMA.

  • @stopcicles Then I am as you say a "cunt". But it's not MMA I don't have respect for, it's the followers and most of the fighters. Doing karate and judo together is MMA, Krav Maga is MMA, Mauy Thai and BJJ is MMA. To many followers think that MT and BJJ are the only MMA in the world and lack respect any TMA in their path until some new sport fighting fad comes along. Bas is an amazing, along with Randy. And having some legitimacy is good among the Armchair Warriors of Youtube. Peace and good day

  • Since the top-comment is somehow about 'MMA vs WC' I'd like to say this. Abstracting vom the actual arms positioning and movements Bas follows (knowingly or not; don't matter) mostly some basic principles of WC. All he says and shows is quite smart and makes sense to me (a WC student).

MMA is a different game than WC/Self-defense and Bas adapts to it. Not saying you can't do some self-defense using MMA. I'm sure you can. Also, I highly recommend Bas' DVD on self-defense.

  • @hastwocats ........ Bas used to use the linear stance until he got into pancrase. He found that a compromise was necessary in order to defend the takedown. The linear stance makes it extremely difficult to defend a well set up takedown. The square stance (wrestling stagger stance) makes it very easy to defend the takedown.. but very difficult to defend strikes. For that cause, Bas adopted a compromise... where he can slightly square his linear stance - so that he can block kicks.. and sprawl.

  • Dentchi u speak like u are a world champion or just some expert but u are just a piece of shits. U should think that a K1 champions knows a lot more things than u !!!

  • lol and another error why the fuck is he looking at his arm??? lmao!! what you guys gona tell me this guys the shit....lmao your not suppose to look at the person body parts period your suppose to center your opponent. Notice while he staring at his arms would if this guy loved to head but and round house kick this idiot constantly lool you cant be serious....Im done with this guy lmao time to look for more crappy fighters

  • @Dentchi sorry 2 tell u, but this idiot trainer is a former k1 champ, and i think he knows what he's doing. as for standing still, this is only theory, he's not gonna run around the room. i've been in club fights where u can't move an inch, so forget about dropkicks. he's just talking about real street fights, not mma or kickboxing or whatever.

  • @secutorclaudius Really The whole main subject was when he said never block low. I totally disagree.

Other than that i seen his fights but he usually just runs to a oppenent and knees them and keeps running at them grabbing lool..... but still never block low......is a bad thing to do. and lol a club fight those are funny watching Practice Double kick to somones chest and youl win all of them it works XD

  • @secutorclaudius -- Bas Rutten has never been a K1 champ. Bas wasn't explaining K1 techniques. Even if this video could be used in training for a K1 event (which won't happen) -- Bas wasnt describing a style in its own.. (but only his personal experience). Anyone criticizing him based on their opinions of what "boxing, K1, or WT" on the street (or in competition) clearly missed the point. For certain.. Bas is no idiot. I take this video as a look at what a Thai fighter does in street fighting

  • @KeyboardPacifist sorry, i guess he wasn't. but he's been fighting for a long time.i didn't call him an idiot, i was responding to what dentchi said. i like bas.i used to do muay thai. as for low blocks, i only blocked them w my knees/ shins, not my hands.

  • @secutorclaudius ....... I know. I was agreeing with you. That little child (dentchi) called Bas an idiot. And I too, trained a little in MT with the fairtex place (sf and concord in norcal). It's way rougher than the kajukenpo that I grew up doing.. i didnt do it long either. It gave me an appreciate for the simplicity of the style of 8 weapons. I also did WT from the time i could walk - and we also never use our hands to block kicks. Leg blocks leg.

  • @KeyboardPacifist i miss it. i was about 170 lbs back then, now i'm 240+, only lift weights and move like a bear.

  • Lol and not only that this idiot teacher is acting like the fighter is gona stay stil if you look at videos of wingchun or jkd (just for example) the fighter is gona move foward with there fist strikes pushing them back. Notice how this rutten guy stands still blocking its not gona work like that sorry sir especially when i was trained to move foward because it adds more force to your blows who the fuck stands still??

  • @Dentchi

bas rutten is not only a great MMA champ (and that was in the early days, with less rules), but was also a great bouncer in holland. Has participated in more REAL fights than most who train/fight in martial arts/or MMA, thai box etc. Of course he is not perfect, but calling this very very good fighter with good technique an "idiot teacher" is just pathetic.

  • Lol I even notice that all these mma fighters worry about is power and how fast they can knockout . And not realizing there taking blows constantly not blocking a thing 99% of the time i sit watching like wtf is going on....block??

  • Why is he he comparing it to boxing all the time ? At 2:49 he says a boxer would always duck a hook..says who ? a boxer might step back, step forward, step to the side, lean to the side, lean back, shoulder block it, block it with his hand, block it with his arm..Bas makes it sound like there's only on way to do it. Bobbing is btw dangerous in boxing as well, since you can bob right into an uppercut.

Stop bashing boxing Bas, just because it's not your favorite and you dont know so much about it.

  • @TheBestBoxingGame he's just pointing it out for boxers going into mma or thai boxing . bobbing might get you a knee or kick , that's what ernesto hoost told me in a seminar. you're right about the weaving but don't drop one hand like some do...

  • Bobbing might be dangerous, but I dont see what weaving (leaning to the side) would be.

  • @TheBestBoxingGame .... relax. It's a habit to say "weaving" with bobbing. Bas has weaved many times in his many many fights. He's a big fan of boxing, and you're really not in the position to tell a former Thai boxer what does and doesnt work in a Thai fight.. or tell a former mma champ what does and doesnt work in an mma fight. More than anything, Bas is talking about the dangers of certain tactics and patterns - and not saying there's only one way to do it.

  • @KeyboardPacifist Yea I know just remember, what bas says doesnt ring eternal truth..he was champ when mma was new, a lot of things has changed. And he is too old and stubborn to keep up with it.

  • @TheBestBoxingGame ..... I think that this is a pretty old video. I havent seen his later stuff. He's seems to admire the newer generation... like Anderson, Torres, Cruz, and lots of guys who use... gasp... more traditional boxing. ......... Again, this was an old video. MMA adapts.. and he talks (on HDNet) about attaining more striking refinement to seperate yourself from the pack. Watch his show.. he keeps up.

  • @KeyboardPacifist So you basically admitted that I was right with my comments about bobbing and weaving..and then you tell me that im in no position to tell bas what works or not ? So if he is wrong about something, no one should dare speak up ? besides I didnt tell "him" anything, was just pointing out there's alot more to the subject than this primitive instruction. So you think you can know all there is to know about blocking punches by a 4 minutes bas rutten video ? lmao !

  • @TheBestBoxingGame... eh? You missed the whole point. Is it not possible to agree with part of a comment and yet... dare i say.. not with the whole? ... That's what i did. .. If you watch a lot of Thai boxer instructionals, you see they occasionally make the mistake of saying "weave" when they go to lengths to show that it's bobbing that they are talking about. ...I started training in the 1980s. Who said anything about "know all there is to know" in 4 minutes. You're delusional.

  • @KeyboardPacifist im not delusional you just agreed with everything I say ?! lol

  • @TheBestBoxingGame ..... knowing even a novice amount of what there is to know about positioning your body in order to block punches takes years of study and training in the gym. ....... This video clip is one of several hours that Bas did. No one can watch them and claim to "know" much of anything - since techniques are a motor skill, which need to be carried beyond the cognitive awareness and into muscle memory (from thousands of kinesthetic 2-person drills and sparring). Period.

  • @KeyboardPacifist I think I already said that..

  • 10 people look to 90% of Hollywood movies to learn how to fight.

  • @hastwocats he's talking about for the context of MMA though is why he doesn't protect the groin

  • Some decent MMA boxing tips. I wouldn't say never duck a punch - how else do shoot-wrestlers get in - but definitely be considerate of those knees. Thanks for the upload.

  • @xjxm .... that is ducking... that's shooting in. The shot is the counter... it's not an avoidance "duck." The shot is set up by the fighter.. who baits, feints, sets-up the guy to throw the lead punch.. then he uses that over-committed punch to come under with the counter... ie, the takedown. ..... Bas is saying, never use "ducking" as a general habit when exchaging strikes with someone.

  • i thought this was kurt angle in the thumbnail.. then i clicked on the video and i still think its kurt angle

  • Dangada dangada dang

  • guy has sick thighs (no homo)

  • haha zijn accent is kk mooi

  • hit first, hit hard, as they say....

  • but what in the street fight? if they want to hit you in the balls? that is why a lower my hands

  • @TheSUBGAMER ...... if some idiot wants to punch you in the nuts.. you should knee him in the face or choke him with a guillotine. If some idiot wants to kick you in the nuts.. you should learn how to check the kick. Basic skillset. You dont have to use your hands to do that ---- otherwise.. yeah, all it takes is one feint.. and then next strike is right to your temple.

  • Definitely makes sense

  • Bas Rutten is the man :D , i worship him lol !

  • jesus look at his thighs

  • so he saying dont be flinchin

  • how do you block when he punches with two fists!!!! :D

  • @peterelliotpeter sidestep, then he stands open and you can punch in whereever you want^^

  • @CrimnlBT nice ty

  • @peterelliotpeter btw depends on how he would punch...2 punches in the face i would go down and uppercut him, when he wants to knee you right after that because of going down, his balance is ass and you could either takedown or go back again and he would fall on his own xD

when one to body and one to face you could block the face-going one with your arm and headkick him with the opposite leg^^

  • @peterelliotpeter btw punching twice at the same time you have NO power at all xD

  • ok wat the fuk Wats faster moving your whole body or your hand< U wont block shit like that

  • Comment removed

  • And try blocking like that aginst a trained experinced martial arts fighter and then say keep your hands like that the whole time he would change his mind fast guess your gona keep ur hands clost to your face when you see a kick coming at your legs or at your face hope he can react fast seen so many teachers fail at tryna teach im not saying this is not good i disagree with his whole set up on his guarding Yah should Watch MASTERWONGS videos way better, but i forgot this is mma stuff nvm
