I was in griffith park in los angeles and I saw about 12 lines in the sky in a short period of time. It looked like a small plane was releasing these trails. What the heck is going on. Are these chemical trails ?

Yes. Normal jet exhaust disappears within minutes behind the plane. Chemtrails linger and widen over several hours.
