The Epiphone 2010 model G400 standard 62 Sg is still conciderd to this day by professional guitarist to be the best standard Sg out there. And that's right Gibson fans even better than the Gibson standard Sg. Also the 2011 model Epiphone limited edition 50th Anniversary 1961 Sg reissues are preferred by a country mile over the Gibson model by Vintage guitar collector's. These are facts not some empty opinion. Gibson on the most part hasn't made a better guitar than Epiphone since 2008.
Part-2 todays Epiphone SG's and Lp's are Crafted with the very best of woods and Electronics. They are also by far better than today Gibson Models Hands down and there going to continue to climb the latter os sucess. EPI's only down fall is under priced
Todays Epiphone G-400 Custom sg. The G-400 Standard 62sg. The Limited Edition 50th Anniversary 1961 Reissue sg. And the G-400 Limited Edition 66 sg. Every one of these Epiphone sg's are with out any doubt much better than todays Gibson sg Models.
Epiphone has been a part of gibson usa since 1957. The 2010 model epiphone g-400 standard 1962 sg is conciderd by many pro guitarist to be the better sg over the gibson standard sg. I also agree with that for shure!
Blindmkd theres only 2 guitar companys in the whole world that make the real sg's and they are Gibson USA and Epiphone. Cant go wrong with eaither one but for me i would go with epiphone befor i would gibson.
@timluwis21 You're an idiot. Gibson has been making Epiphones for years, and not everybody can afford a 3800 dollar Gibson. And just because you don't like them, doesn't mean you have to insult other people. I hate Fender, but I don't say they're gay and piss on videos demoing them
@timluwis21 The only way you have a Gibson version of this is if you have the Gibson Les Paul custom from 1961 , since this guitar is based on that model . If you have a Gibson Les Paul 1961 and still playable , contact the company , they will surely want to take a photo of it , since most of the 61' models are not in a playable shape.
@BlindMkd Or you have one of thousands of reissues they've made? Which you realise, unless you're being intentionally thick? Which would make me a twat for not getting it sooner.
@pangborn25 There were no reissues of the Les Paul under Gibson. The Epiphone's SG-400 Custom is the only one who has "Les Paul Custom Reissue " printed on the neck . The other models are just SG - because after 61st model sir Les Paul requested that the new type of bodies are not called LP .
So this is quite the unique peace of Epiphone guitar . Would want to put a grip on the Gibson's 61 tho :).
@BlindMkd Hey, If we were talking vintage you'd be right. Still don't know why they put "Les Paul" on the cover though. Not like anybody recognizes it as "Oooh! That's a 1961 Les Paul Custom reissue!" Nope, it's an SG. And it's white. Ha!
by the sg custom .. has better sound than the melody maker .. the epiphone has alnico pickups and melody maker doesn't.. besides there's is only one pickup on the melody maker.
mmm i would go with the SG, it hasmore options as to which pickup you can use but the overal sound is good if not better, just because its a Gibson dosn't mean its better(: Hope i helped.
Its very weird but I don't really like the early Clapton stuff, I listen to the Solo and later things but i guess you can hear that in Eric's playing now as his style may have changed over the years but its still "him".
Slightly Hendrix like but I get the sense that you listen to a lot of early Clapton recordings, your style and tone are very reminiscent of how he played when he was young.
Hi , im not sure if i should buy an epiphone sg 400 (350 bucks)or an epiphone les paul deluxe (400 bucks) i cant even try out the guitars because im from peru but i want to order the guitar from guitar center in USA .... suggestions? thx and sry for my bad english
I saw that same guitar at the local pawn shop. It was an used one but it looked like a new, and I tried it out and it sounded awesome. It cost 300 canadians bucks, is this a good price for a used one?
Not sure what the exact Canadian dollar to american is, but for what it's worth I bought my Epiphone SG G-400 Custom for 300$ used here in America, and got a hardcase thrown in for free.
I have this guitar and love love love love it. Although getting used to the added pick-up takes a little while, learning not to pick so deep can help your playing. Definitely worth looking into if you can find one, I got mine about 2-3 years ago.
love your tone... i have been thinking of getting an sg & seriously considering the epi custom 3 pup..any issues or are you satisfiefd w/ the price/quality..?
@Kh501pr I take it you own an Epi SG but on the Les paul you decided that it had to be a Gibson :) I can't wait to get my Gibson, I'm currently in posession of 2 middle of the range Ibanez's which are nice, But I think I'm ready to have a Gibson, deserving infact :)
hey ive got the same guitar on the top thick strings E,A,D is it supposed to be very bass like and really deep and the rest are fine is this normal with the third pickup or is there a problem
But his "sound" was created with Cream in the 60's on SG's, 335's and Les Pauls. One of his most iconic guitars was the "Fool" SG. The current Clapton Signature Strat has a 25db mid boost to emulate the humbuckers found on most Gibsons.

Hey i have the 2004 edition of this guitar nd i mainly play thrash metal and it is the perfect rock machine. It is also the guitar Tomi Iommi used in the paranoid video so....
An update: I have indeed put a big scratch plate on and gone for just two pick-ups. the middle one just wasn't "different" enough in the end. it never really got in the way but it wasn't getting used! I do really like this guitar, it may eventually get a pick-up swap but they are fine for now. It cost me about £170.
look out for a new video of it with the two pick-ups and some better sound within a couple of weeks!
nice man i have a question about the guitar, is it good because i was thinking of getting it and also does the middle pick up ever get in the way of your pick?
if you dont use the middle pu, you could by a big pickguard an put the middle pu away. :) It would looks nice and you could better play without the middle pu.
Play the damn thing louder. You can't tell what it sounds like at all at this volume. If you can hear the strings clacking around you're not hearing the genuine tone.
I have this guitar its freaking awsome. You can put a ton of distortion and its crystal clear. [Probably because the three pickups] It is really good with acdc, greenday, and guns n roses type sound.
im gonna try and get one tomorrow any one think i should forget this and get the les paul style standard ? but they're both epiphones just so you know . i've always wanted one with 3 pickup set up but now im not too sure
thats awesome 12 bar blues. i can do that improv sorta stuff on piano, realy wish i could do it like that on guitar though. how'd u get that good on guitar? this is a question for everyone, would you recommend guitar lessons or teaching yourself if you want to get good?
I bought it off a guy that lived back in the sticks for $400 and it came with a Gibson Les Paul case. The case wasnt made for the guitar but it fits very good. I thought that was a pretty good deal.

HEY, I have the same guitar as u :D
I bought it off a guy that lived back in the sticks for $400 and it came with a Gibson Les Paul case. The case wasnt made for the guitar but it fits very good. I thought that was a pretty good deal.

Because when it was released in 1961 it was a Les Paul. It was to replace the version we all know. It was not known as the SG until a little later.
