  • Ahead music like this, everyone should bow...

  • 13 people who have no souls...or missed the like button.

  • she is fierce. brilliant

  • A stunning violin concerto performed brilliantly by a stunning woman!

    Harry E W Smith, E.D., A.D.M.

  • What a stunning performance by a stunning woman!

    Harry E W Smith, E.D., A.D.M.

  • What a stunning performance by a stunning woman!

  • Korngold used a lot of this in "The Prince & the Pauper." Interesting to hear it upgraded to a classical performance piece.

  • @07regia The slow movement is a re-working of the balcony love scene between Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland from the film "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1939??).

  • @assindiastignani Incorrect. It's from the 1936 film "Anthony Adverse"

  • @peterSclarke It's also in Robin Hood. I checked.

  • Quite honestly, I think we should all be so glad that there are so many wonderful violinists around right now. And despite any problems there might be in the music industry, we have at our disposal many many recordings of great works played by fantastic artists. And in any assessment of music making of this quality, let's not forget the composer!

  • Don't you just love pointless youtube arguments?

  • bravo

  • Awesome, first time I've heard a version besides Heifetz's that I actually like!!! Her tempo is great :D

  • Haha isn't the name Korngold redundant? Sorry about my corny sense of humor [both puns intended].

    This is an interesting piece.

  • @MrArafat2009 actually sir, there's all the difference in the world--the fundamentalist spits on all that is sacrosanct in Islam--the ones spilling innocent blood, the ones who suppress and slight their women, the ones ruled by hatred and ignorance and judgment....these people aren't following Islam. Yes, there are fundamentalists in the world. But I could counter every claim that Islam preaches violence and intolerance and oppression with verse after verse from the Quran.

  • By it hardest violin concert you mean one of 15 hardest violin concerto?

  • I don't think I've heard such a playful Classical piece before! It's brilliant.

  • Farid Farjad- Keman Please listen to

  • Comparing the two is like comparing a ''mild'' muslim or a ''fundamentalist'' muslim...they both make absolutely no sense, haha

I know so because i used to be a brainwashed muslim and have since been enlightened and embraced the culture and spiritual freedom of the West and LOVE it.

In light of that I like to warn everyone for the cancer that Islam is, as it will never embrace this kind of music. Don't be fooled, there is no mild Islam and there will bever harmony coming from them.

  • @MrArafat2009 this isn't really the place for that bro.

  • Comment removed

  • @MrArafat2009 You want to know what the cancer is? Ignorance. By people who don't know a thing about a Islam, who have never made an effort besides what they've seen in the news and what they've gathered from propaganda to understand the religion. Wana know why Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world today? Because some folk are so shocked/outraged by what they see and hear about Islam that they decide to investigate for themselves. And when they do, they realize that

  • This is my first hearing of this concerto and it's lovely and original. So I'm not getting into some argument which will spoil my wonderful listening.

  • her playing is good im not a big fan of how the orch is playing

  • ok gonna say something silly... but why are female string musicians always so pretty?

  • @Benedium Thank goodness, we need to breed more of them, opposed to allow the West to be infested by degenerate muslim retards. I hope the West will awaken from the self guilt trip and get rid of these Islamist idiots and save the culture I have learned to embrace and will deffend against the sand niggers that you allow to enter you countries!

  • @Benedium Because they have the world's best photographers, make-up artists, lighting technicians, directors and the most modern photo studios imaginable...not to mention the possibilities of touching up any photo with digital computer technology. To be fair, a few of them are actually pretty, but with the resources at their disposal, the Hunchback of Notre Dame could be made to look attractive.

  • @Benedium Ida Haendel isn't "pretty" and she blows Mutter out of the water.

  • @McSplat loll

  • @Benedium because they have soul written on their faces? :) have a nice day :)

  • @Benedium They aren't, just the ones you see on album covers are.

  • mutter plays this very aggressively... i like! although i am male i have to say that i have often experienced that female soloists play more powerful than men! psychologically that is against their nature! ;-)

  • @mortalfrog0815 Oh, if I may, nothing, save for sperm donation, is against their nature.

  • @rmgj of course there is! i'm not a sexist, but there are nature given differences between men and women! physically AND psychologically... there's nothing sexist about that!

  • @mortalfrog0815 Please forgive me, it was a poke at straight faced humor, I must beg you to excuse me, : (

  • great performance!

  • A very strong rendition, by a superb artist of the violin. I like Mutter's tone production very much.

  • I like any violinist that gives these notes life, nomatter the name, not one over another.......

  • The best of Korngold.

  • I love Anne Sophie Mutter and Korngold violin concerto

  • I've listened to Hilary Hahn an this one. Different styles. Hilary plays with a very singing vibrato. I enjoyed both hers and this. Sophie seems to create a little more excitement. Hilary's notes are so pure and instantly on pitch. I guess the thing to do is just appreciate them both. Life is just more interesting because no two play exactly the same. Why not enjoy them all.

  • Not always a great fan of Mutter, but holy cow this is breathtaking. She's caught the mood of this last movement and absolutely nailed it. Orchestra is good too - lovely horns and brass section plus dynamic percussion.

  • She really understands this concerto :O Great!!

  • Terrific!!!

  • @aaron1640 Don't learn your first steps online. Playing an instrument at first is not a question of ear, but of finger, hand, and arm position - and chin and head for violin. If you get those wrong, you will never even play badly - you won't be good enough to play badly!

You really do need constant monitoring and feedback from someone who knows what they're doing - and what you're doing. Later, you can learn a lot of things online - but get physical positions from a teacher.

  • Amazing..Bravo

  • Almerio- She takes a special feeling with a excellent orquestrat

  • We can only imagine the response of the violinist for the premiere when Korngold first showed him the score!

    "You've got to be joking!"

  • It was premiered by Heifetz, so I doubt he was at all phased. And he probably took it a few clicks faster than Mutter (not that her recording is lacking at all!)

  • holy moly. is this in real time? this is uhmayzing!

  • wunderbar!!!!!schöner als bei hilary!!!!!

  • was für ein ton! :)

  • WOW

    (stunned)

  • bravo!

  • What does "better" or "1000 times better" mean? Music is about emotions - you feel it or not. And it most likely depends on many other things (mood, wheather, or what else you can think of). You possibly can state, that this or that interpretation meets more or less your personal expectations. But yours - and nobody elses! But in now way you can jedge this or that artis as better or 1000 times better - unless you have a special sense for theese things.

  • i think they meant that how well she expressive the music, how enjoyable they make it, like technique wise, and when you sit and listen, does it make you want to hear more, or do you think "ah, this is nothing special"

  • Hey Guys! Listen to this song! It's the original Sound from Desperate Housewife Soundtrack! Enjoy it!!! It's great!

  • hilary is not just better she is thousands times better

  • stagesix6. Hilary who? Do you mean Hillary Clinton?

  • hilary hahn

  • stagesix. I do not know much about Hilary Hahn. I did listen to some of her piece, and of course she is very talented. To say she is 1000 times better than Anne-Sophie Mutter is quite an interesting statement. You must obviously think Hilary is great! There are quite a few good fiddlers in history such as Oistrach and Heifetz, and they would not be 1000 times better than Anne-Sophie. My own personal opinion is that Hilary is not either.

  • Comment removed

  • stagesix. I got that last comment! I sort of figured you were kidding. This makes life interesting, and promotes discussion. Take care. :)

  • Don't think so. =]

  • thats right, hilary is better than mutter, hilary has this talent for music AND to play violin... mutter doesn´t can play the music beyond the notes...

  • @zuckerblick2009 when I was younger I felt the same about Anne-Sophie Mutter's style - I only started to understand the depth of Mutter's performance when I got older and had experienced and suffered more. It goes well beyond the obvious. However, Hilary Hahn is absolutely wonderful too and I could not say who I prefer. It is like comparing Menhuin and Heifetz, it is a matter of personal taste.

  • really....

do you know anything about violin?

    or violinists?

Mutter does WAY more than just play the notes (something which in itself is particularly difficult in this work) seriously, if you don't like it... watch another version, don't litter the internet with your inaccuracies.

  • I laugh in your general direction. Mutter, is anything, BUT, just the notes.

  • ;) tank you, i´m not alone :-D

  • you are ridiculous. what an idiotic thing to say.

  • woooooow!!

  • wow! very nice.

  • this is a mint piece! people hu say its "wanky" are not in the know about wots so hot right now lol

  • Always interesting. Always aggressive. Always full of drama. Sometimes it works. Perhaps, in this case, just a bit overwrought. So if you prefer a man in charge with subtlety and finesse, and no less vitality, then Heifetz' is the version for you.

  • Hi Anne, could you play some Mark Klatt too?

  • I love it! Her playing is so firey! I dont agree that this is one of the hardest concertos thou. Its also a bit of a wanky concerto - no real substance.

  • yeah she is great

  • GREAT!!!!!

  • als würde jemand die Seele hineinhauchen..wunderschön !!!

  • i frikking love her. AMAZING!!!

  • She's so beautiful, apart from being an excellent violinist.

  • Anne-Sophie

    you broken heart my grandpa

  • wtf?

  • what do you say

  • it feels like this concerto was written for her :D cut exactly for her musical character...

  • ich mag anne sophie mutter lieber:)-schon allein weil sie den gleichen namen hat wie ich -sie war schon immer mein vorbild

  • Wow...some of you have quite obviously never heard the original recording by the violinist for whom this music was written.

Hilary Hahn's recording is all well and good for what it's worth in her own style...but to call this rubbish? You may as well throw out over 50% of the twentieth century masters with that level of ignorance.

  • I agree. Annie Sophie Mutter really had her game on when she recorded this piece. It may be unfair for me to compare Mutter's style against Hahn's, but the truth of the matter is that Mutter's is far more superior (in my opinion). Just an assumption, but Hahn seems to choose technicality over whatever it is Mutter has. Interpretation wise, therefore, Mutter is more experienced. Just giving my two cents! I do agree with your comment, whoever you intended to correct.

  • @jhviolin29 Who *was* it written for?

  • @cybercassidy1 It was written for Jascha Heifetz.

  • Mmamma mia!

    :D

  • I hear striving in this violinist.

She's deffinately a player to emulate.

  • A agree surely with Funkywallot as well. Its based on interpretation and everyone has their own individual way of playing the piece. I would add to all the critics, let us please hear yours done? ty. :) Shes done a bang up job, they all have. A+! :)I wish if I only had those skills. So far I like the person named Quint personally. And I am new to all this.

  • Though i care i lot for music, I find the discussions here, Mutter vs. Hahn ,be absolutely imature and stupid.

There is no best interpretation of playing korngolds 3.rd , there is only the absolute difference in character.

And who could judge character ? Anybody even trying to do that is not interested in the music experience , because theorys can be pushed into the absurd and leave nothing left than a few academic inventions wich have no meaning.

  • i agree entirely with you funkywallot,

  • Goodchessactor: Many people don't use shoulder rests....she's definitely not "different" in that aspect. And if you had the chance at owning 2 strads instead of 1, would you? She's brilliant.

  • you good

  • ***Search "Nate Robinson violin" on Youtube***

  • not to be that THAT youtuber but hilary hahn deff rapes this concertos ass

  • Sounds hard, but definitely not my taste

  • i met anne in one of her performances

  • That does sounds hard, another gifted violinst is born!!!

  • Well, Anne-Sophie is no newbie in that business. She started her career over 20 years ago with Herbert v. Karajan.

  • actually its been a little over 30 years....she started when she was 12-ish.

    She a violin goddess XD

  • hah im learning the korngold next i think. well at least i hope! this is great!

  • no comparison to gil shaham's recording...

  • I am tired of people who always feel that they should be mean to Anne-Sophie Mutter. She has a glorious career, because she has the repertoire and the goods to deliver. She is unique and I salute her. Die Russische Schule ist wunderbar, aber es gibt auch andere La"nder in dieser Welt...wir andere haben auch ein Recht zu musizieren.

  • WOW she's amazing!! and she really has great tone too!

  • Sure does!!!=D

  • So amazing!!!. Thank you. Cheers, ~Sergio.

  • search " Paganini 18 Anton Polezhayev "

  • Kavakos is soooooo much better. Much more fun, and an even better violinist.

  • I believe that tempo is just very relative. It is up to the perception of each individual performer to make the piece sound good and bring the best sense out of it. When J.S. Bach put "Presto" for his pieces, he did NOT mean the piece to be played at a quarter note = 200 miles/minute (according to the metroneme's timing) simply because there was no metronome during his time! If his pieces with Presto played "that fast", they'd sound very ridiculously fast and lose the dramatic effects.

  • shit! listen to heifetz!!!!

  • yeah sure...shes only been regarded as one of the best violinist of the 21st century! i have nothing on heifetz but she's amazing!

  • rozendent, YOU shit, how can you dare to say that??? I think u r only envious 'cause such a beautiful woman plays like God. Heifetz was probably the greatest fot the tecnique, but it's definetly not all in violin playing! Mutter has the tecnique and also an incomparable soul, brain and sound! so shut up

  • no, that was not me!! I have forgot to make logout from computer in my Conservatory... I thihk too that her interpretation is very nice.

    sorry((

  • Nobody is the best, they are all good. I'm happy to hear Mutter's version because I can see the different interpretatons. I prefers Mutter's ideas (fits more with me, depend of the peoples!), especialy her tchaikovsky with crazy fast tempo on the same CD (looking to buy it). Love this piece, sounds like film music!

  • Well, it sounds like film music because it is. Kind of. It's based off of some of Korngold's film music. at least.

I'm surprised by this performance; it's much better than I expected. It seems I have underestimated Mutter.

Of course, I don't think what Heifetz did for this piece will ever be surpassed (it's the "gold standard," after all), Mutter certainly has much to say. A very valid interpretation.

  • They both are quite good! I love Mutter's faster tempo but Hahn probably is closer to what the composer intended.

  • I love Hahn but thisMutter hasa certain quality to her playing. Korngold Is wonderful to hear esp one of his operas!

  • hilary hahn plays the best korngold
