@07regia The slow movement is a re-working of the balcony love scene between Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland from the film "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1939??).
Quite honestly, I think we should all be so glad that there are so many wonderful violinists around right now. And despite any problems there might be in the music industry, we have at our disposal many many recordings of great works played by fantastic artists. And in any assessment of music making of this quality, let's not forget the composer!
@MrArafat2009 actually sir, there's all the difference in the world--the fundamentalist spits on all that is sacrosanct in Islam--the ones spilling innocent blood, the ones who suppress and slight their women, the ones ruled by hatred and ignorance and judgment....these people aren't following Islam. Yes, there are fundamentalists in the world. But I could counter every claim that Islam preaches violence and intolerance and oppression with verse after verse from the Quran.
Comparing the two is like comparing a ''mild'' muslim or a ''fundamentalist'' muslim...they both make absolutely no sense, haha
I know so because i used to be a brainwashed muslim and have since been enlightened and embraced the culture and spiritual freedom of the West and LOVE it.
In light of that I like to warn everyone for the cancer that Islam is, as it will never embrace this kind of music. Don't be fooled, there is no mild Islam and there will bever harmony coming from them.

@aaron1640 Don't learn your first steps online. Playing an instrument at first is not a question of ear, but of finger, hand, and arm position - and chin and head for violin. If you get those wrong, you will never even play badly - you won't be good enough to play badly!

What does "better" or "1000 times better" mean? Music is about emotions - you feel it or not. And it most likely depends on many other things (mood, wheather, or what else you can think of). You possibly can state, that this or that interpretation meets more or less your personal expectations. But yours - and nobody elses! But in now way you can jedge this or that artis as better or 1000 times better - unless you have a special sense for theese things.
i think they meant that how well she expressive the music, how enjoyable they make it, like technique wise, and when you sit and listen, does it make you want to hear more, or do you think "ah, this is nothing special"
stagesix. I do not know much about Hilary Hahn. I did listen to some of her piece, and of course she is very talented. To say she is 1000 times better than Anne-Sophie Mutter is quite an interesting statement. You must obviously think Hilary is great! There are quite a few good fiddlers in history such as Oistrach and Heifetz, and they would not be 1000 times better than Anne-Sophie. My own personal opinion is that Hilary is not either.
thats right, hilary is better than mutter, hilary has this talent for music AND to play violin... mutter doesn´t can play the music beyond the notes...
@zuckerblick2009 when I was younger I felt the same about Anne-Sophie Mutter's style - I only started to understand the depth of Mutter's performance when I got older and had experienced and suffered more. It goes well beyond the obvious. However, Hilary Hahn is absolutely wonderful too and I could not say who I prefer. It is like comparing Menhuin and Heifetz, it is a matter of personal taste.

oh, i didn´t mean the style, my only question is:where is the music? and when we talk about THIS theme, music, you will say ít would be very complicated, because they are diffirent tastes, but that´s wrong!we can only say if it has done or not !can we hear the sound of this greatest thing...by mutter?or is it marketing? it´s a real shit what is happening in the world with music, it´s like sportgames... and mutter doesn´t feel the music, she hasn´t anything to say!!
Mutter does WAY more than just play the notes (something which in itself is particularly difficult in this work) seriously, if you don't like it... watch another version, don't litter the internet with your inaccuracies.
Always interesting. Always aggressive. Always full of drama. Sometimes it works. Perhaps, in this case, just a bit overwrought. So if you prefer a man in charge with subtlety and finesse, and no less vitality, then Heifetz' is the version for you.
I love it! Her playing is so firey! I dont agree that this is one of the hardest concertos thou. Its also a bit of a wanky concerto - no real substance.
Wow...some of you have quite obviously never heard the original recording by the violinist for whom this music was written.
Hilary Hahn's recording is all well and good for what it's worth in her own style...but to call this rubbish? You may as well throw out over 50% of the twentieth century masters with that level of ignorance.
I agree. Annie Sophie Mutter really had her game on when she recorded this piece. It may be unfair for me to compare Mutter's style against Hahn's, but the truth of the matter is that Mutter's is far more superior (in my opinion). Just an assumption, but Hahn seems to choose technicality over whatever it is Mutter has. Interpretation wise, therefore, Mutter is more experienced. Just giving my two cents! I do agree with your comment, whoever you intended to correct.
A agree surely with Funkywallot as well. Its based on interpretation and everyone has their own individual way of playing the piece. There is no best interpretation of playing korngolds 3.rd , there is only the absolute difference in character.
And who could judge character ? Anybody even trying to do that is not interested in the music experience , because theorys can be pushed into the absurd and leave nothing left than a few academic inventions wich have no meaning.

She makes it sound like rubbish. After hearing the concerto performed by Hilary Hahn, I'm just sure, that nobody can ever play this piece better than her.
Anne-Sophie plays like if she tried to damage the violin. Bad, bad recording. And why does Anne-Sophie always try to play all pieces for violin faster than they are meant to be played?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Because she doesn't use a shoulder rest and has 2 not 1 strads and she tries to be "different". She is the darling of the Avant-garde commentators. Listen how she jazzes up the Brahms Sonatas. They call that "fresh", "daring" "valiant". I wouldn't call it rubbish but I don't buy it. Some reviewers are just afraid to say, no, no, and they follow the herd. There is no doubt she is a great violinist but that's not enough, she wants to be an innovator and the results are not pleasing to my ear.
Goodchessactor: Many people don't use shoulder rests....she's definitely not "different" in that aspect. And if you had the chance at owning 2 strads instead of 1, would you? She's brilliant.
I am tired of people who always feel that they should be mean to Anne-Sophie Mutter. She has a glorious career, because she has the repertoire and the goods to deliver. She is unique and I salute her. Die Russische Schule ist wunderbar, aber es gibt auch andere La"nder in dieser Welt...wir andere haben auch ein Recht zu musizieren.
I believe that tempo is just very relative. It is up to the perception of each individual performer to make the piece sound good and bring the best sense out of it. When J.S. Bach put "Presto" for his pieces, he did NOT mean the piece to be played at a quarter note = 200 miles/minute (according to the metroneme's timing) simply because there was no metronome during his time! If his pieces with Presto played "that fast", they'd sound very ridiculously fast and lose the dramatic effects.
rozendent, YOU shit, how can you dare to say that??? I think u r only envious 'cause such a beautiful woman plays like God. Heifetz was probably the greatest fot the tecnique, but it's definetly not all in violin playing! Mutter has the tecnique and also an incomparable soul, brain and sound! so shut up
Nobody is the best, they are all good. I'm happy to hear Mutter's version because I can see the different interpretatons. I prefers Mutter's ideas (fits more with me, depend of the peoples!), especialy her tchaikovsky with crazy fast tempo on the same CD (looking to buy it). Love this piece, sounds like film music!
Well, it sounds like film music because it is. Kind of. It's based off of some of Korngold's film music. at least.
I'm surprised by this performance; it's much better than I expected. It seems I have underestimated Mutter.
Of course, I don't think what Heifetz did for this piece will ever be surpassed (it's the "gold standard," after all), Mutter certainly has much to say. A very valid interpretation.

Well, Anne-Sophie is no newbie in that business. She started her career over 20 years ago with Herbert v. Karajan.

Kavakos is soooooo much better. Much more fun, and an even better violinist.

If his pieces with Presto played "that fast", they'd sound very ridiculously fast and lose the dramatic effects.

shit! listen to heifetz!!!!
Rozendent 3 years ago
yeah sure...shes only been regarded as one of the best violinist of the 21st century! i have nothing on heifetz but she's amazing!
moosen27 3 years ago 5
rozendent, YOU shit, how can you dare to say that??? I think u r only envious 'cause such a beautiful woman plays like God. Heifetz was probably the greatest fot the tecnique, but it's definetly not all in violin playing! Mutter has the tecnique and also an incomparable soul, brain and sound! so shut up
brennolo 3 years ago
no, that was not me!! I have forgot to make logout from computer in my Conservatory... I thihk too that her interpretation is very nice.
sorry((

Nobody is the best, they are all good. I'm happy to hear Mutter's version because I can see the different interpretatons. I prefers Mutter's ideas (fits more with me, depend of the peoples!), especialy her tchaikovsky with crazy fast tempo on the same CD (looking to buy it). Love this piece, sounds like film music!
Loryos 3 years ago
Well, it sounds like film music because it is. Kind of. It's based off of some of Korngold's film music. at least.
I'm surprised by this performance; it's much better than I expected. It seems I have underestimated Mutter.
Of course, I don't think what Heifetz did for this piece will ever be surpassed (it's the "gold standard," after all), Mutter certainly has much to say. A very valid interpretation.

Hilary Hahn; the best interpretation!!!!!!!
nenussa 3 years ago
They both are quite good! I love Mutter's faster tempo but Hahn probably is closer to what the composer intended.
JMG1951 4 years ago
I love Hahn but thisMutter hasa certain quality to her playing. Korngold Is wonderful to hear esp one of his operas!
