Their not that rare. The Japanese eat them. I even got bitten by one I handled at a Japanese market. The vender kept saying "ki wo tsukete". Turns out it means "be careful". LOL
@ChitWhitly Sure....wild ones. The japanese have cultured giant salamanders commercially for quite some time. Just like americans culture crawfish and just like the french culture frogs. Unless Im mistaken, the commercial variety is a cross between the japanese giant salamander and the chinese giant salamander. They look just about the same.
