  • wonderful

  • Does he usually give this talk at high schools? Sounds a bit like it.

  • The new Gods advertise arm = TED.

  • He's the Bill Cosby of biofuels.

  • head over to thealgaeexperiment.tumblr.com to check out an architects take on making a photo-bioreactor that anyone could make at home.

  • This is a great idea and I hope that what you are doing, proves to be correct.

Mr. Bilal Bomani, the human race, needs all the help it can get and I for one believe in you work.

Thank You for your talk, it was very educational.

    Thank You again:):):)

  • @ashesoneeight that was exactly what I thought the moment he said about the algae growing everywhere - there's a lot of problems w/algae growth and invasive seaweeds around the world.

@Happilydazed - agree hemp use should get a lot more coverage as shd clearing invasive weeds.

Also don't the Freshwater fish need ummm- fresh water (thought that was one of the nono's in the biofuel production) and also how do they feed the fish? wouldn't the fish food count as the added fertiliser?!

  • first black guy on tedtalks! and he is a total badass! love this guy! so much attitude and pizzazz

  • @dewaldjohan he is by far not the first one.

The first black guy I saw on TED was actually an African boy who build a windmill using a physics engineering textbook he couldn't read.

  • @dewaldjohan neil degrass tyson look it up son

  • trees are renewable, they have been renewed for thousands if not millions of years

  • lol a pimp.. what? a species that can survive any where? What if it gets loose and engulfs the planet.

  • Hey NASA guy I'm no rocket scientist but I think you meant to say your wind turbines are 2kW each, not 2kWh... unless that's all they've generated! STOOOOOOOPID

  • This is so far behind what Sapphire Energy and others that it is silly.

  • @OlinHyde Not really. Go away, troll.

  • this guy is so american you dont even know

  • How about Hemp? Why on Earth are we still refusing to open our eyes to the abundance of food, fuel, and fiber? Ognorant, blind, and foolish!

  • @HappilyDayzed Because there's no money on cheap technology

  • @HappilyDayzed A problem with using Hemp (and some other plants) for fuel is that if put in a place that was once a forest, the reduced sequestering of CO2 actually would make it worse than oil.

  • @HappilyDayzed Because it uses Arable land!

  • @HappilyDayzed sadly the reason is that it would hurt "the big industries". Why would you allow something so easily accessible to become a green alternative for food, fiber and most importantly fuel?

Only when the last tree is cut, only when the last river is polluted, only when the last fish is caught, will they realise that you can't eat money.

  • with that voice and lisp, if this whole biofuels thing doesnt work out, im sure this dude can make it as a pimp

  • @burn435353 this man is dedicating all his energy/life to make the world a better place and in the end thats what you have to say?

  • @dominous300 uh yeah, i thought it was funny, but your more then welcome to give him a handjob for all that he's done for all of us, you clearly want to

  • @burn435353 he has my respect as man and for what he is doing i think thas enough for him what people like him are doing is for our own benefit

  • Second metric, alternative, is kindof useless. If it's green on the other two ways, it deserves being called green. Third metric is contained within the first! So, stick to the one metric: "Is it sustainable?".

  • @mremgee Thank you for pointing that out.

There is something about these TED talks (not this guy - he's ok, but certainly not great) that sicken me, namely: something about them promoting themselves as somehow presenting really "different" or "revolutionary" ideas, when in fact not ONE of these TED talks presents ideas I have not heard elsewhere on YouTube, often a million times over.

  • I hope U make it :D

  • I never got into science or anything like that, but one does notice how much salt there is. Americans consume it like no other and our oceans are littered with it.

  • Great project, but it is not NASA's idea. Yes they are using Gov't money to make it real, but not the first...

  • @aquanue

Does it really matter who came up with the idea ? One can argue that every single decision or idea that has ever existed was inspired on some level by others.

What matters is that it is used for the benefit of mankind.

  • @TheUnchainedMind I don't disagree - but the presenter makes the suggestion that this is a NASA idea, and could only be done by NASA, which is incorrect (on both fronts). I'm all for the IMTA approach when applied to aquaponics and algae for biofuel, probably far more so than you'd assume, so I wasn't setting out to be negative about the work being done. Just the false credit being claimed.

  • @TheUnchainedMind Everything is highly derivative. Hence why, if you insist on patents and copyright, it must be strongly limited in time and scope.
