    and boogie with you!

  • I remember back in the late 50's, and in the 60's catching Chubby Checker in his wonderful performances at some of the night clubs in Wildwood, New Jersey. There was no place like Wildwood, N.J. Lot of American Bandstand kids went to Wildwood, N.J. Chubby was a first-class act and had it going on. Thanks for posting misterbok. Dee Dee Sharp was also fantastic.

  • Aunt Jean was the passenger in Steppin Fetchit's truck in Mad,Mad,Mad,Mad World. She appeared in utube videos: Perry Como sings O Holy Night..dentelTV2. She also toured

with Nat King Cole as a singer and dancer. I would love to see video of that. Thank you

    for your interest.

  • Dang!!! Wow...over 1/2 century later first time I listened to this song on 45rpm record and now see this on youtube video of this song!! I was dancing to this song as a young boy around 6 or 7 years old and now in middle age...dang..i missed these songs of yesteryears compared to the condescending/disgusting rap and most hip hop songs they play today to these young people today; they are disgusting in language; foul mouth, racist and sexual disgusting in acts and attire.

  • yo pienso que para ser un buen twister se debe saber bailar twist, y Chubby Checker cumplía con ese requisito. Un artista completo en todo sentido!

  • A Top 5 hit for Chubby Checker (and Dee Dee Sharp) in April 1962. Though it didn't hit #1, it proved that Chubby Checker was a force in the music industry. Could he keep that momentum going?

  • they dont have other steps other than shaking their booty, good thing they dont have rheumatism or arthritis! hahaha!!!

  • i love the 60 because of the marijuanas hippies man i wish they legalize marijuana

  • the most sexually overt of the twist saga. give it to em.

  • Amazing. 50 years ago this is what American considered "chubby." Now his weight is considered the norm. Yikes!

  • @jojobug45 Every one also smoked, and it was the norm for women to be on pep pills. Yikes. :-o

  • @jojobug45 not to contradict ya, but Chubby once said in an interview that he took that name so if he *did* become chubby he would stll be able to fit the name.

  • @danielchance Since Fats Domino came 1st... I always assumed Chubby Checker was just a play on Fats name.

  • The Twist - I would be surprised if any song/dance gained the popularity that the "Twist" or the "Slow Twist" did. It has that key element of simplicity, along with being a heck of a lot of fun - not to mention the music and singing were great. Thanks for a great post.

  • WHAT SONG HIT NO 1AND THE NEXT YEAR IT HIT NO 1 AGAIN ? ANY 1?

  • Classic. thanks

  • Just received my Dee Dee Sharp Cd of her first two Cameo Lp's, It's Mashed Potato Time and Do the Bird. In the booklet that came with it she candidly explains that the woman dancing here with with Chubby is not her!!On the day of the shooting her mother would'nt allow Dee Dee to miss school so this woman took her place. I hope this forever puts the issue to rest. This is not Dee Dee Sharp!!

  • reminds me of my and dad and their living room parties........grew up with all this music!! and learning to dance rock"n"roll with my dad...

  • reminds me of my and dad and their living room parties........grew up with all this music!! and learning to dance rock"n"roll with my dad...

  • Love this...brings back good memories...great music!

  • 0:58 The Addams Family appears! lol

  • @ArturRosomak LOL! They ARE just a tad bit on the somber side.

  • Stop the Race Debates and enjoy the music.

  • @TacoNASCAR

I hear the music & love it. I just ignore the haters!

  • How in the world did we get on this dopey exchange when we're listening to Chubby Checker & Dee Dee Sharp?! Is there no place for just enjoying the music?

  • Okay all of you guys making comments putting down black and white people, you're just sad. Regardless if you're replying to someone else who was racist before you making a comment, it still makes you trash for being a racist.

The way society acts is making me think that if one day we do find another planet habitable by humans, we're going to have to either send all the black people or white people there because we're commonly the races that clash the most.

  • To HerxUtub: I see you have your neo-nazi/skin-head calling card. All of you preach the same dogma ad nauseam. Negro? Yes, and proud of it. At least I'm not a genetically, watered-down version of a Negro, who by the way, ARE your ancestors . And, I don't have that disgusting maggot skin like you surely have and despise. Got TAN milqtoast? By the way, I don't hate white people, but I do enjoy pissing people like you off because you are pathetic. And unlike you, I would say it to your maggotface.

  • @ode2reading "genetically, watered-down version of a Negro" Hmmm there's nothing like the milky white skin of a woman. Well, maybe with a golden tan with tan lines. Thank God for genetically, watered-down version of a Negro.

  • Thanks for posting. I was probably 13 yrs old then. Who is the group backing up?

  • @Lucille99 Don't miss her mashed potatos! :)

  • Can't we put the hate aside?! This song is way too cool!!!!!

  • That family looks like they just scarfed down 5 loaves of Wonder bread. White on white

  • Love the way they dressed...classy & very sexy!

  • man dd is so hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • People from the 60's look happier? How naive. We were at the height of the civil rights movement. Nothing happy about it. Music was our salvation. Dakota German made the most asinine comment in this forum. The cradle of civilization is in Africa. We are all (and I'm black) mutations of African genes. Every civilization, race, etc. created its own culture. Maybe you should pick up a book sometimes or watch National Geo.

  • @ode2reading Wrong!!! Another oversensitive Negro. The MUSIC was happy back then. Not like the unhappy, angry hip hop so-called music garbage we hear today.

What right do Negro boys have to be angry today? They had every right back then, yet the music was happy.

Today Negroes have no right to be angry, yet their music is ridiculous. Angry and without class. Angry? Over what? A people who have had everything handed to them on a silver platter. by the rest of society.

  • its musik and ritam i love this

  • @Lossfer Realize he did NOT do the original version Twist. Look up Hank Ballard and the Midnighters for the original. Try his other stuff while you're there. THEN compare!

  • haha this was the dance back in the day what happend to creative dance songs i mean the soldier boy dance youve got to be kidding

  • @NicoleHalsey13 Nicole you just explained it,from a man`s point of view thats all she has to do!

  • People of 60s look happier.

  • @edeligonul ...your are correct...'cause they were !

  • @edeligonul Compared to today there wasn't much else to do.

  • @edeligonul ...we were. I bought this record 45 when I was 13 and I still have it.

  • @edeligonul Lol, you're kidding right? I'm sure dealing with racism was a lot of fun. Don't get me wrong, it still exists but it socially acceptable to be racist back then.

  • He doesent move much for todays standard of "dancing" but man, he looks SO much hotter than those boys that do all the flippidy flip flops and hip hop dancing with clothes to mach! I wouldent mind doing a "slow twist" with him, nu-uh!!!!

  • He does not twist to far...

  • rofl @ 1:00

  • 50 years of twisting. Wahoo.

  • I saw Chubby in concert in the summer of 2008 and what a great show it was.

  • This was all before "process foods" really made us chubby.

  • I love him!! And he reminds of President Obama.... LOL!!! Twisting with Michelle!! :-))))

  • The sound we are hearing comes from Chubby Checker & Dee Dee Sharp voices, but the images above are Chubby Checker & another girl. Not dee Dee Sharp. Who is she?

  • I love the Dee Dee accompanyment... 50s Rap... awesome!

  • greAT!

  • CHubby is adorable.

  • we got kicked out of the little bar in downtown Albany, NY for doing this.

  • I love it!!.. i grew up with this, my mom would put it on while cleaning the house on weekends, but most of the time we would stop and start dancing in the livingroom..those were the days.

  • @good2btrueblue117 Nice memories !!

  • this dance is amazing ! :):))

  • I'm not convinced it's Dee Dee Sharp, but whoever she is, she's got a great voice.

  • Chubby still looks the same lol and if that was fat back in the day...well shit lol

  • if its Dee Dee Sharp how come they say at the begining its Linda Scot I don't understand

  • @veraellen1924 THis clip is from the movie "Don't knock the twist" and Linda Scott sang "Yes-sirre" right before Chubby and Dee Dee went on with these Smoking HOT lyrics.

  • Dee Dee is wearing the styles girl singers wore on movies/tv shows like this. Look at early Supremes videos. Couple of years later and the same styles.

  • From "Don't Knock The Twist" , a movie EVERY Boomer needs.. Fantastic dialogue, everything that made us the COOLEST Generation!

  • great song

  • That is a unique, sweet, rare, good quality man. You don't see too many like him. I am a 1950 baby but I can still enjoy this classic music and dance. I am starting to do the twist to lose inches around my waist. Thanks Chubby. You are a classic. You will never go out of style.

  • Dee Dee Sharp-SEXXXYYY!

  • IMMORTAL CHECKER!! DEE DEE IS JUST MARVELLOUS!! THESE TWO SINGERS FROM THAT ERA - IRREPLACEABLE!!! UNIQUE,

  • MARAVILLOSO, LOS AÑOS SESENTA

  • I f you have a decent or expensive speakers on your computer, crank it, dee dee voice is remarkable. Did they ever recorded together again? Thanks misterbok

  • I own one of the Two albums this was originally issued on...Dee Dee Sharp's It's Mashed Potato time(1962)!

  • Damn, those two can move

  • Chubby still had skinny legs in 1962. The man had some grace, too.

  • HOT

  • Dee Dee Sharp's voice , BUT THIS GAL IS NOT DEE DEE SHARP!!!!

  • @mrfowler -You're right! This is NOT Dee Dee Sharp. This IS Linda Scott with CC.

  • @akcirvav The woman dancing with Chubby Checker is not Linda Scott....

  • @mrfowler Yes it is according to IMDB.com "Don't Knock the Twist (1962) But that is Dee Dee Sharps voice.

  • @cinerama62 I KNOW that is Dee Dee Sharp's voice... However, that is NOT Linda Scott dancing with Chubby Checker, unless there are two Linda Scotts...

  • @cinerama62 Linda Scott indeed appears in "Don't Knock The Twist," singing "Yesirree" -That clip is available on You Tube I stand by my comment that the woman dancing with Chubby Checker is not Linda Scott... I think you will agree if you watch the clip "Yesirree" from the same film..

  • @mrfowler I'm so embarrass, ha, I Iooked at the clip of Linda singing "Yessirree" your right mrfowler thats "not" Linda Scott dancing with Chubby, I must be colorblind also ha. Thank you for pointing that out, correcting me on this.

  • @cinerama62 Hello to cinerama62! Oh please! No need to be embarrassed! I still would like to know who this mystery woman is dancing with Chubby Checker! Maybe her name is also Linda Scott!

  • @mrfowler No there's only one Linda Scott listed in the credits, and she's white, ha. Could it be Dee Dee Sharp dancing with Chubby? and she just didn't get credited for it. I looked on imdb.com (full cast and crew) and there are 5 other actresses listed appearing in the film, Ms. Sharps name is not listed in the (cast ) credits. Oh well i guess we should just enjoy the clip.

  • 0:58, Scary Cracker. Way to balanced and restrained. Are they watching Rock & Roll?

  • Hi , i' m french , 23 years , there is the best singers of this decade , and brillant dancers , NERVER FORGET THIS

  • @gouni88 I'm french to 18 years old and...I THINK THE SAME

  • this is cock and ball torture's video xD ahahahahahah

  • I don't know how Dee Dee could dance in those tight high heel jimpson shoes and tight dress but she looked great. I wonder whatever happened to her?

  • @ekocentric Miss Dee Dee is very carefully not lifting her feet up while she twists the night away. She's letting Chubby do all the hard work while she maintains a ladylike posture. :)

  • Your gonna last longer, just take your time......

  • I'm Digging that Band

  • That Chubby Checker and Dee Dee Sharp are the ultimate performers when it comes to doing the twist.I am proud to say that I have that song on the original 45rpm record. It was on Cameo-Parkway label.

  • Let's do the twist, like we did last summer! Chubby = LEGEND, I'll tell you now!

  • I dance like that doin the dishes.

  • Check out the close-up between 1:45-1:51 in Dee Dee's "Mashed Potato Time" video and compare with the girl along with Chubby Checker in 'the "Slow Twistin'" video.I say it's not Dee Dee on the latter!!

  • No,she's not Dee Dee,the girl in the movie at least. She's not even in the movie ("Don't Knock the Twist") credits. Check out Dee Dee's photos from the time; I have all of her early Cameo Lp's and picture sleeved 45's an this ain't Dee Dee!!She was (and still is) one of the most beautiful and gifted black artists I've seen!!

  • Dee Dee Sharp was born Dione LaRue, September 9, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

  • @lyon406 Thanks for sharing that info. I love finding out the birth names of celebrities & I didn't know that Dee Dee Sharp was born in Philly. My twin sister's name was Dee Dee so I've always felt an affection toward Dee Dee Sharp. Plus Dee Dee Sharp can sing! (And people are right. That woman (who should get some credit) is lip synching Dee Dee Sharp in that movie.

  • Il più bel ballo del mondo il twist!! Bravi!!

  • love the twist chubby checkers & dee dee thanks 4 posting any of u up there know how to twist or just argue

  • Sorry, but that is not Dee Dee Sharp appearing here in the video. It's someone lipsynching to Dee Dee's voice that's all.

  • @wally1435 Yeah,you're right!!Check out my comments on this!!

  • @wally1435 That women is Linda Scott, This is another version.

It don't even sound Like Dee Dee Sharp.

  • @Endersfan2t I guess I got caught up in watching the singer, but she does sound very much like Dee Dee in several parts. But, you're right, after listening to it again, it isn't Dee Dee.

  • @wally1435 Yeah, but this is music. Women and men dressed correctly and just enjoyed singing. Not these fake head with fake tans and boob jobs! I also like Little Eva's music (Loco-motion) (Keep your hands off my baby) Etc. That woen is attractive and can sing. You just can't enjoy today's music. It's not enjoyable.

I could watch this and SHINDIG! all night long :-)

  • derrepente la voz de chubby es identica a la de elvis presley sospecho que es una grabacion

  • as far as i know, her name is dee dee sharp

  • Comment removed

  • Damn that chick looks fine, that voice is very attractive too.

Man the times then were a helluva lot better.

Chubby belting out the Twist songs that shook the music world. Just as what someone commented earlier, this song is pure attraction.

    Go Chubby Go.

  • @Oldschoolhockey91 Did you know that she did the song: Mashed Potatoes? If you like this one you may know her song as well. A preview of the song/video is on the right of this page.

  • @Oldschoolhockey91 Dee Dee's biggest hit was "Mashed potato Time." Actually, it's on one of the videos on this page.

  • @Oldschoolhockey91

Dee Dee isn't that good looking.

  • so much twisting lol

  • But you are a racist you utter moron

  • @dakotagerman1"White people are the CREATORS! of culture".

I don't know about that but they are the chief contributors of colonialism, slavery, theft, rape, torture and murder of every other race on this earth, especially but not exclusively the black race.

Judging by your name, you are probably from one of the Dakotas. Which race originally held that land before they were put on reservations?

By the way, I'm as white as they come.

P.S. Chubby Checker is the greatest!!

  • Comment removed

  • @vegaslover777

I'm a North Dakotan who's a German from Russia. My grandfather was born in Odessa, Ukraine and came over to USA as a two year old. He had a sixth grade education, yet was a very successful businessman.

I could go back to Russia, but: I'll take ALL! technology created by the white man with. Here I go: back to Odessa where I belong! The Motherland awaits!!

    HOO-RAY!!!!

  • @vegaslover777

    The animals, stupid.

  • @vegaslover777

You forgot about the earthlings, Reverend, the ultimate victims of the murderousness of the human race, in which case just about everybody is guilty, though especially ecological flat liners like you.

Next time, blow it out of the other orifice. You'll probably sound less blinkered.

  • That doesnt look like Dee Dee Sharp singing to me, I think they got an actor.

  • @javajax0987 that's her.

  • So.............the white family are stuffed and mounted after being blasted with formaldehyde yeah?!?!?!?!?

Just to fix those cardboard colgate grins on their vacant faces right..............or am I seeing thing that everyone else isn't????

I was born in '59............so I remember the weird 'we can't do nothing about black music' mentality........so they grinned and worked how to dilute and exploit it!!!!!!!!

    Rolling Stones etc............

  • what now, sweety?

  • In those days the high standards of white/Caucasian culture were still well regarded. People had decency in those days. Modesty and simplicity--such an innocence that is lacking today with the "in-your-face" attitude prevalent: even among religious! people these days.

But, we'll go along so far and the time will come when we'll return to decency such as this video shows in the white family.

  • No offence intended....but what funkin' planet are you living on!?!?

On the surface in those days it was as you think...but all the stuff that goes on now was still going on...just repressed & criminalised.

The Catholic church was still hiding the abuse of priests on altar boys and boys in Catholic homes...the cops just as normal procedure beat the shit out of people, & in the US the Mafia were hand in hand with the cops & authorities to make $M+++++

    Wife beating was 'normal'

    People are just BAD

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah mate...me too...but I elected to skip the church when I was 11.

    I grew up in 60's Cornwall...pretty much still in 1940's mind-set.

But back then everyone was 'normally' racist, And they were all naieve enough to believe their politicians...now we've all woken up......and that post war positivity is long gone.

But I still have good neighbours, and I have manners.....but I should be stuffed & mounted as an endangered species!!! Especially in London!

Its very much like NY attitude here.
