Can't win the same war twice? So we didn't defeat Germany Twice? We didn't Defeat Britain Twice? If you're going to use cool-sounding metaphors, at least make them make sense
the war in Afghanistan was over the day usa chose to help the afghans against the Soviet, they gave them weapons and thought them the tactics, now pay for it
Better than nothing? You've got to be kidding! Doing nothing is better than the slimy deals and payoffs we've seen. Why not insist on transparency? Why not allow health ins companies to compete? Why not insist on tort reform? Drs avoid Florida because of the liability. Find a Dr in your district who accepts medicare though you don't have to worry do you? You don't have to worry about a job. You blame Republicans for everything but the Dems have had control since Nov 06. You are a disgrace.
For most of my 58 years, I've lived with exactly three heros: JFK, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, and Mohammed Ali . . . The truth exuding from this man is extraordinary! Watch your ass Mr. Grayson - you need help, let us know! flash
Unfortunately, it appears that they are about to give us something called "reform" that is designed to fail. There won't be a strong public option or negotiation of drug prices or reimportation or anything else to bend the price curve down. It will be a bad plan and when it fails, those opposed will start saying "See we told you it wouldn't work". We would be better off with nothing than the laughable thing they are calling reform.
Never hire someone to do a job who says it can't be done.
"This bill appears to be legislation that the president wanted in the first place, so I dont think focusing it on Lieberman really hits the truth," said Feingold. "I think they could have been higher. I certainly think a stronger bill would have been better in every respect."
If he wanted those things why didn't he support those in congress who wanted them too instead of those in congress who didn't? He made secret deals with big pharma back in August and has said himself that this is the bill he wants. You act like this is the first time you've ever had your heart broken by a politician.
We have a lot of parties compared to the US. Atm we have 8 parties in the "Folketing". They all receive money for elections from the state, and besides that they are allowed to receive money from voters and companies. From what i gather all the parties got something like 20-40mio$ in total during the last election. Biggest ammount received by one party during the last election was @ 5mio$. Peanuts compared to the US;-)
The real kicker is: No elected politician is allowed to receive gifts or money. Politicians are closely watched, and if it turns out they have a possible conflict of interest, they have hell to pay.
You see.. Making a donation to a single party doesn't change that much. There are to many parties for it to matter. But not being able to put money in the pockets of those who decide the cause you're fighting, makes a world of difference.
Damn. You are lucky to be in Denmark. If I wrote in my book about a society like yours, I'm sure people here in the US would accuse me of being unrealistically utopian. Not to say I don't think you guys have your own problems, but still.
Recently some survey named us the happiest people in the world. Oprah did a thing on it, i kid you not*lol* Personally i hope there are happier people out there 'cause yeah.. We have our problems too.
My guess is that you wouldn't be called utopian if you described Denmark. Some bright guy would probably say it was a socialist story. Actually we live in a capitalistic society as you guys do. Only difference is we say that a society should be judged by the way it treats the weakest;-)
Obama and the Dem's FTL. Nothing's gonna get done. We all know it by now. Obama doesn't give a shit about the people who elected him. The White House has been laying into the Dem's trying to get them to go with Lieberman. I can't believe it. They have the majority and they can't get anything done.
I'm so lucky not being born in the US. Where i come from (Denmark) we don't allow our politicians to be bought and paid for, and we have health care for everyone. Everyone get the help they need, noone gets thrown out for any reason. But still it costs WAY less than the average american health insurance. If ony you guys knew what you're missing...
All the Senate needs to do is pass a health care bill so it can go to a Congressional Conference Committee. Once a bill comes out of Conference the House and Senate have to vote on the Compromise then it can go to the President. The Senate bill isn't going to be the final bill, its just were they start negotiating from in the Conference Committee. In the meantime, if you rely care about reform, you can act like the Tea party crowd and rally on DC ... or watch them settle for Better Than Nothing
Obama has totally let his supporters down! He has totally sold out to the insurance companies and the war profiting corporations! He is the same as Bush, he just talks better.
Racist southern democrats who all migrated to the current Republican party-Jesse Helms, Strom Thurmond etc etc etc . Are you Rep. Fox from NC.? Sounds like it. Try that bullshit on someone that doesnt know better.
I do blame the Democrats and Obama for being too cowardly to say f*** the Republicans and for lacking the courage to pass real reform that the American people want. Either pass the reform with 50 votes (with Biden to break a tie if necessary) or let the f***ing Republicans, in the spirit of Strom Thurmond, filibuster 'til their hearts content, just as they did in their unsuccesful effort to derail the Civil Rights Act.
And no there are not 60 Democrats. Loserman is an "independent" who's ass should be kicked to the curb instead of reaping the benefits of a Democratic majority in the Senate when he is clearly a Republican, bought and paid for by the insurance industry.
Dems don't have 60 in the senate they have 56 that is why this has not been resolved. The house on the other hand passed a decent public option bill
RECONCILIATION the public option portion of the bill and have the Senate vote on the rest that everyone agrees on. But they wont do this because they are weak and "need" to have this done by 2010
The reason why you are getting this watered down legislation is because the Whitehouse and the Democratic leadership want to divert a lot of the money flowing from US Health Ins and Big Pharma away from Republicans into their own coffers. Ideas like the public option were never going to be in the bill, it was a big dog and pony show to make you feel like you have a representitive government.
Your original point has no point. "The Dems have only themselves to blame" because they're the only ones debating while the Republicans have decided to be irrelevant until the next election cycle. The President pushed the agenda and The House passed a bill. The Senate only has 60 ppl in it on this issue. 58 Dems (Sen. Kirk has Kennedy's seat) an empty suet from Connecticut a socialist from Vermont and 40 empty seats.
I am not pleased with the so called Democrats but lets not forget there are 40 other Senator's oh wait no there isnt because they blindly agree with each other.
And I was going to point out the same things that smg1one did.
my close friend was in afghanistan when they first took it over and he said it was easier than training; they marched thru there like a knife thru butter. all we're doing is babysitting oil, everything else you hear is bullshit

Why they think Americans will settle for something that is BETTER THAN NOTHING is laughable. Dem reps may settle but Dem voters will revolt.
