  • You said the A123 did not get the contract for Volt ? Do you know where the LG is manufactured ? I guess that would explain why A123 hasn't hired for folks in Livonia aye ? Target was/is this month . . . we'll see - side note - "Who killed the electric car ? " watch this video EV1 vs Volt PISS on GM !

  • maybe you should try it anyway

  • Hahaha, funny video, that's quite to the extreme to crush those batteries! Did you look to see if there was a mark after on the aspalt? What did it smell like? Looks toxic. This reminds me of something the myth busters would do. Is this like a do not try at home video? =)

  • Yes Luc.. that is extreme.. no mark on the asphalt... and i left no debri.. I cleaned all the asphast after that test. The smoke foming from the A123 was.. a bit toxic i think. I would not be able to breath in a car with more than 500 of the se cells smoking like that.

I love them and they are very strong.. but that test surprized me alot!

  • I just found it funny that you made use of that backhoe when there are so many smaller vehicles and utilities to crush those batteries, hehe nice job! Was the backhoe shovel melted from the power of the cells acid? lol jk. You better be carefull you might cause a nuclear explosion. Watch out for the a123! ;)

  • "staring" or "starring"?

Nice try, looks a little bit inconclusive.

  • Oh.. thanks.. !..i'll try to correct that !

The conclusion that iwanted wasen't the one i hoped !.. I thou the A123 cell would have a little smoke. no more.. and that the cobalt cell would have burst in flames.. but that wasn't.. So my conclusion on that... depending on how you crush lithium cells, they will or will not burst in flame...

I though that the results would have ben the opposite.. I was surprized!.

  • In any case, it is nice to see people trying to get real data rather than relying on marketing information.

  • would NiMh batteries do the same thing?

  • Still not tried.. I dont want to use them.. their energy density is not as good as i need for electric bike and other EV.
