So far Im impressed. Unlike Eve ( don't get me wrong I loved Eve, this game is just different) STO has different dynamics. The death penalty isn't painful and positioning your ship is more crucial for battles than Eve which relies on strength (weapons capabilities, range etc) You have to research the game and learn about skills, equipment and tweaking your landing party. Ill still play WOW but STO will be a nice change and different platform.

IMO, pre-ordering the Digital Deluxe Download is the best package of all the pre-orders out there (yeahyeah. I know I sound like an infomercial). It seems to have all the best goodies for both ships and crew, the "NX" prefix, AND of course, the coveted exclusive emote of "KHAAAAAAANNNNN!!!". LOL!

I think what Peacekeeper was getting at is the control style. Controlling a star ship in the same way you control a single character in other MMO's would kinda suck. I hope there's more to the control scheme than that.

The interface with crew members is as we feared, a static repeating animation of a crew member just staring at you with a blurb of text and drop down menus. Little to no resemblance to star trek here, sadly.

been playing eve for 5 years, and honestly, i've been really bored lately, i have every ship i've ever dreamt of, i've been in evero 0.0 region, i've done every mission like 2000000 times, i've taken every ship out in pvp (every ship that i like that is) i've mined every ore. And honestly, I'M SICK OF IT! I can't wait for the day when i get to sit in my chair and hum the star trek theme while warping around, and to go pvp without the threat of having to farm isk to replenish eventual losses.

its monthly subscription and like eve there going to have one central server so everyone will play in one universe. it takes place in the future. is for ships there is no way they can have every ship in the core release of the game. last count just federation class there is 90 plus ships and each ship has a couple alt configs. but the mainstays of the past and present are in the game at the start. ya there is far less peace in star trek online then in the actual shows and movies

The characters look good. The ST story has always been good. The ships look ok. The weapons and ship choices look very limited. I'm still getting it to try it out. I love the ST universe. Much better than SW. SWG sucked from the start.

Anyway, I also play EVE as well, and the one thing I really disliked about that game was the combat system. I hated how you couldn't manually fly your ship. Also, the space combat wasn't that exciting, all you do is press buttons, and your fit practically determines who will win the fight. Its not really about tactics that much. STO will be to me what I really was wanting in EVE, I'm definitely getting it.

I personally like how their currently doing STO, and I believe it would be funner doing it this way, of everybody having their own ship. Think of it if it was any way else. Like other players as the crew, that wouldn't be fun at all. Who would want to be the lowly maintenance guy running through Jeffry-tubes. Think about it. the game looks like a hybrid of STFC 3 and ST Legacy (alotta ppl h8 ;legacy but i enjoyed it).

I read that the game boasts semi realistic traval times, so warping from earth to vulcan or somthing would take about 5-10 mins real time, during this time you are ment to be able to explore your ship, talk to the crew ect the idea was to give the galaxey a larger feel to it and a good trek setting, but i dont see that here...

The warp view is pretty much like the in-system view. Only that the enviroment is kind of a map lookin thing... kinda hard to explain but YES u can intercept hostile ships mid-warp. and u can change ur warp factor etc etc etc its all equally WIN.

Oh! I was calling myself a noob. If you notice, there are times I don't fire for extended periods of time I was too busy checking out the UI and all this other stuff.

But yeah, shield facings and power distribution is great. I'm really excited about this. It's going to make complex great (especially in grouping IMO, managing power levels based on who is being targeted will be key)
