  • I prefer the bottom one myself. I think that's the AF100...less jitter and jello. I also love that look from 0:37 - 0:45 ...very creepy.

  • It would be nice to know which camera is which. Also, what happened to the Blue Channel when you got to the BLUE WALL and BOOK Binder.

  • @darrylsmith

In 1080p mode, take a look at 1:21 and tell me which one is the 7D. It screams out loud :)

  • @jdubsky I thought the bottom one was the 7D at first because it looked like the rim of the lamp had slight aliasing. Aside from that the image is near identical. The one shot that showed a big difference was in the room where the 7D did not render the blue properly. I don't seem to have this issue with my T2i. Did you use a custom picture style with the 7D? If so, which one? I use Cinestyle, which renders colors better in low light. I'd pick the Sony Nex-FS100 all day over the 7D or AF100.

  • The AF100 really is an amazing camera. too bad its so expensive... I just bought my gh2 and have been loving it. I really like the work flow of it compared to the canon dslr's.

  • I'm assuming the top is the 7d and the bottom is the AF. Whatever it is the one on the bottom has much better whites and highlight detail and better shadow detail. Really is an improvement in image and range, but for twice the price of a 5d I think i would stick to the 5d.

  • @KidMoon23

True, the 5D is a wonderful camera for the price, But for those who can afford it and are tired of the tradeoffs then the AF100 is a great cam.

Sync sound w/XLR inputs, No Moire, Reduced Aliasing, Reduced image Skew, Sharper, Better Low Light, Better Codec, Waveform Monitor, No limit recording, No Overheating, Full 60p @ 1080.

If these are not vital to your work then stick with the 5D. I am, however, exhausted by the HYPER shallow DOF produced by the users of the 5D moire II.

  • @jdubsky I bought the AF100 and intended to use it on a short.. Sad to say the 60D out shot it in every way... I sent the AF100 back to B&H...

  • @SkySevenFilms It's not for everyone!

It has made me more critical on lighting, and I find a better filmmaker as well. Controlling my hi's and lows, and really using the great dynamic range of the camera. :)

  • @SkySevenFilms really? I have 60D and thought to get my hands on af100. I love video from 60D, such a great compromise for almost no money - compare to big budget rigs

  • @jdubsky Brethren I am so with you! I don't know why people believe SDOF from all the DSLR cameras can measure up to the SDOF of a 35mm film. What they fail to understand is what they call SDOF are nothing but over blown blurr. Look at films SDOF, it's very subtle. The closest images to 33mm are the AF100, FS100, Sony F3...clean and subtle images. Don't get me wrong, DLSR cameras are cool for low budget music videos, but for high end prod? You need a full pro camera mentioned above.

  • @jdubsky I dont understand what you mean by "I am, however, exhausted by the HYPER shallow DOF produced by the users of the 5D ". So, I really prefer the render effect of Canon DSLR, cause they have a nice dynamic range with light. They are not dazzled by high light (this point is very important for me) and this is a characteristic of a true 35mm camera). I run over the net, and I think Canon SLR are the best for short moovies, and other films who needed professionnal made.

  • @CocktaiLMolotovX The truth of the video world is that the tools are available to shoot anything these days. The bottom line is that you have to use what works for you. For me, I cannot work around low resolution, horrible macro blocking, aliasing and moire, so the 7D is no longer an option for me for narratives. But i use it on every wedding I shoot an it still looks great. But for story work, I need another tool. I've actuallyed moved on the the GH2 with the hack giving me 156MBps. Amazing.

  • @jdubsky Ok, the problem is than Gh2 have not the same dynamic range between low light and high light. 7d makes it good, and 5D makes it better. I can see than Gh2 have a very nice colorimetry and detail, but in most case, the 5D have better dynamic, more horizontal lines, better definition. Does the hack of Gh2 give more best result than a 5D? I have not these cameras, I am waiting for to buy one (or both...), I am looking for a test between gh13 and a 5D for to make a choice.

  • @CocktaiLMolotovX No argument there. Technically the 5D and 7D will have better DR out of the box with their default codecs compared to the stock GH2. But now that the GH2 has the driftwood hack and you can essentially create a file bitrate that is 8 times the data rate, there is sooooo much detail that you can retain in the shadows that has beautiful information and no macro blocking that it puts it in the same DR realm as the 5D and 7D except it has WAY more lines of resolution.

  • @jdubsky ok :)

  • the 7d is on the bottom (notice the wobble)

  • @SkySevenFilms

Actually the 7D is on top. You can see when the camera is lifted the image skew on top is significantly more. 1:20 is also a dead giveaway with the moire pattern curtain on the top image.

  • Bottom is whiter/brighter (diff wb as well?)

  • not really noticing the difference here on this youtube compression. What is your conclusion overall?

  • Right is the AF100 on the bottom?

  • 7d on top

  • i am curious which is which ;)
