As a boy I explored Fedral HIll. This was well after the occupants left these completed cottages and the place was in ruins. However myself and others did find a few cottages that still had the remnants of life inside. It was very interesting in the 60's
Interesting how die fuhrer appears at the end. Seems like a litle f.b.i. manipulation there.I do wonder what happened to all those people on this footage. It was quite a thing they had going on up there. My friend and I spent many a summer's day up on federal hill, circa 1990-91.We did know homeless Andy. In fact my friend Tintle helped him build his cabin. Some of the local kids used to try to wreck it often. Andy would then go into town to rough up the kids he assumed did it. Ah, memories.

Very powerful video in my opinion. This illustrates why we need more German immigration instead of the other kind. German Americans have contributed much to the cultural landscape of America.
I finally made it up there today !!! Yay. It was awesome. Walked across the dam on the lake or pond. Only thing we didn't find yet is the Iron Door. Next time. Found some other remains of a bigger cabin last time I tried to find it on the other side of the mountain.
Good stuff. I live in the US South and remember growing up with my NY raised dad telling us bedtime stories about the war. He was a kid during the war and was paid by the Coast Guard to walk the local beaches in the pre-dawn hours looking for bodies that would come in from sinkings. This was secret stuff back then;most folks didn't know we had German U-boats off the coast. He very much remembers finding dismembered crewmen from sunken U-boats. Good topic for an episode. Bet you can find more
Why do I devour the new issues so fast, I can't help myself. lol. Oh so I finally went to find the Stone Living Room, I brought my two girls aged 10 and 13. We left a new journal there since we read the old one was destroyed. They can't wait to go back and see if anyone signed it. Hope its still there. Was a thrilling experience for me after all these years of reading about it in WNJ !!!!!
This is so interesting, thanks for all the hard work bringing us this amazing footage. I am definately going to Federal Hill to check this out. I did hear that there were a camp of homeless folks near the area, hope they're friendly ! The new issue of WNJ is awesome, one of the best. U guys are great.
Thanks for the kind words, Velvetjml! Glad you like the new issue, we're very proud of it. I just ran into someone at the Chiller Theater Convention who told me that the homeless man, Andy, that I wrote about in the issue 15 story on Fed Hill no longer lives in those woods. After many years in the wild it seems he has rejoined society. I bet he knows every inch of that mountain by now though. I wonder about all the things he must have found... -Mark M.
Their main goal was to show america what Nazi Germany was about and to create some allies in the States so they wouldn't be seen as such bad people.. So maybe this shows they're hardworking and stuff?
@polakskater101, I was there in 1957, many structure were still there. 9 yrs old, I live 2 Stiles Ct. All was vandalized, never really knew the whole history. The KKK wanted them out ! These people hurt nobody, paid taxes, and the town of Bloomingdale took their land and now it should be returned! I saw American Flags everywhere.
