I have a sledge hammer made out of a construction rod cable and metal head part. The handle is covered by some hard rubber.
It weights about 17 pounds.
When I swing it for fun, although I can swing it in a pretty fast and controlled motion, and with the "right moves" ^_^, the recovery time to land another blow into the air takes me 2 seconds of unprotected motion from the side I swung it from. I can tell it would do a bitch of damage, over a large area. But it's not viable for war, my guess.
If that 3mm steel was a breastplate then there's some broken ribs. If it was a helm, he's out cold and will die in a few minutes. Nice weapon, and actually about the right size for such a thing. The only thing missing is a bit of iron cladding around the top of the haft, just to keep it in one piece (you wouldn't believe how many hammers just snap when you hit ANYTHING too hard).
@SuperSmashyfication How would that break ribs o.0 It hardly dents the 3mm steel... And when knights wore armor, they also wore thick padding underneath.
i dont know why they call them war hammers, the hammer itself is sooooo small, i know the kind im thinking of would be impossible to hold, but something at least bigger and its called using 2 hands -.-
@ajko000 Nah, warhammers would never get much bigger than what you see here, and most were single-hand affairs. Pollaxes were used with two hands, and they had a great big spike on top, but otherwise, the size here is about right.
Disappointing that you didn't get through the 3mil. Was it mild steel or hardened?
It would seem like there is a definite tradeoff between a sharp point that is efficient at piercing versus a blunt point which is strong and can absorb the impact with bending or cracking.
The shockwave that comes from it is already deadly

@dohboiii We'll let you get hit with it in 3mm steel armor and thick padding. You'll regret it.
