  • if a wake up, and see my maker, comin (8)

  • I find it funny how the instruments don't match up with the music. I think it's intended that way. Beck rules.

  • he's like the man in black from the holy mountain

  • this is my fav song ..i mean i love all his music but this one takes the cake for me...

  • this tune reminds me of nirvana, his voice sounds like curt cobains

  • i don't know about that. this song is epic, and the video just makes sense.

  • this guy is great. his music is just great.

  • 1:35 the best part (:

  • the best part is :47

  • At 2:39 this song just pays off in the most glorious of ways.

  • : ) Beck = Good

  • My favourite part is the break:

cast out these creatures of woe

    who shatter themselves

fighting a fire with your bare hands

the way his and cat power's voices blend there... friggin' gorgeous.

  • I like his 90s gudge, this sounds a little before his time. Idk if this is old or not, it says 2008. I like Beck, just not this.

  • thats how i felt but after listening to it a couple times this albums my fav

  • beck is the best solo artist since david bowie

  • Agreed sir.

  • no, is the beast solo artist in the story, even if compared with bands... beatles and stones are nothing compared with beck!!! :D

  • BROH!! BRO!!! !! !... ...

  • I like beck, but dude beatles and stones are legends, beck is still not at that level as they are. but he eventually get there.

  • i like da way you think@!

  • Good one mate

  • sweet silvertone 1448

  • This song is so sweet... I love Beck music!

  • I read somewhere that Beck loves to listen to a Brazilian band from the late 60's- early 70's called Os Mutantes. Those songs were created more than 30 years ago. Beck's music is also ahead of our time, just like they were.

  • Its always time for a beck(s)^^

  • Escuze me senors, do you have any hats?

Escuze me senors, do you have any hats?

Escuze me senors, do you have any hats?

  • beck is awesome

  • Always great Music!

  • I mean honstly Beck is one of the few good artists out right now. He never disappont's the more and more i listen to him i just fall in love.

"jingleing a wish coin that i stole from a foutain that was drowning all the cares of the world"

  • i completely agree, there are very few musicians these days that are as great as beck! his music takes you places!

  • What A Beck! Damn good musicians!

  • modern day bob dylan, like bob dylan, will be more famous years from now, people will say what a great artist 20 years from now

  • they look alike indeed!

  • way better than bob, beck is uncomparable

  • most of the tracks on modern guilt remind me of the beatles

  • whilst this is now one of my favorite songs, I must say that the video was prettly lame.

  • why all the Bob Dylan video refrences... Is Beck trying to crawl on top us as another Dylan?

  • an actual artist

  • haha the drummer doesnt have a bottom hi-hat!

  • ...that hat...badass...

  • and the rest is history as the saying goes.......

  • fun fact: Chan Marshall (cat power) does backing vocals on this track.

  • great song writer thats all that needs 2 be said....

  • this is and beercan are the best bass songs he does

  • Can somebody tell my about Beck history ?? Please answer me ...

  • what do you mean?

  • Dude....That would take much more space than I've got... Try google. It is your friend.

  • wiki that bitch!

  • A bio in less than 500 characters?OK I'll try!Mother-juvenille delinquent/ /youngest Warhol film actress/subversive artist.Father, eclectic multi-instrumental musician/producer/orchestral arranger Grandfather Al Hansen, pioneering avant-garde artist formed Neo Dadaist art movement called Fluxus/Beck went to NYC as a teen-homeless,played raw punk folk/back to LA to record his own indie lo-fi demos/record industry went berserk over Loser-he signed deal for LEAST money and most creative control..

  • That Danelectro Silvertone kicks ass!

  • The Vox bass too! ;)

  • haha 'heavy cat'

  • people just can't figure out other people. Beck is a heavy cat, and that's all ye need to know. don't know about the murky Scientology stuff, and don't really care when he is constantly delivering goods like this. the guy channels Barrett and Spence. what more do you want? you can have your tedious, Democratic party-line Yorke. i'll take the immediacy and individuality of Beck any day.

  • ily

  • you may be right. but you just said "heavy cat" which immediately makes whaterver you say false.

  • jeepers mister, yer smart.

  • Great album, but it was way too short.

  • no .its ok. less is more.

  • this song is the best on modern guilt

  • All of you need to separate the art from artist....

Who cares if Beck beleives in something you feel is mythological in his personal life...does it make his music any less beautiful? Of course not.

I have little doubt that Michael Jackson was a pedophile, but I'm not going to claim that he wasn't a good dancer, or that Thriller wasn't an impressive piece of work....same concept....art over hyahhh, and artist, over hyahhh.

  • I know everyone loves to say that it supposedly doesn't matter what an artist believes in, but I think it matters. Look at Radiohead's fanbase. All those fans just love thom yorke to death for his far left wing views. It's a huge part of their music and a huge part of the support they get. Fans tend to love an artist when he happens to believe in what they like, and when he doesn't, fans say it doesn't matter.

  • I agree to an extent; but its not always the case that an artists direct beliefs (in this case--Scientology, or in the case of MJ--pedophillia) worked their way into the music. Thom just so happens to put a lot of his political leanings in his music (so does/did Neil young, Dylan, etc). But I do agree that what ever an artist believes in acts as a little incentive for a fan to like them more than some other artist/band.

  • I guess it really depends on the fan. I personally never feel comfortable supporting an artist/product associated with views I'm strongly against. No, sometimes the views have nothing to do with the art/product, but it still doesn't sit right with me, kind of like how for example if beck had personally beat up my parents I wouldn't be able to just simply listen to his music its artistic quality. For the record, I never really thought MJ was a pedophile. Very weird - yes; pedo - probably not.

  • lol southpark reference :]

  • it aint bad but on second listen its still not odelay. not that anything ever will be but i expect more then this dreamy background music sound

  • Im a fan and ive never liked his stuff on first listen and this is my first listen and its not his best

  • If this is your first listen, you should try again.

  • btw, nice hat :)

  • great song, beck showcases his extreme diversity in music making, and he does it well!

  • I didn't know he was a Scientologist.. ahh why'd u guys have to ruin my perfect picture of Beck :(

  • Go to wiki. for more info. There is something you should know about his idea about scientology

  • yeah beck, tom cruise and john travolta are the faces of that cult

  • great song

  • Jesus Christ. Why the hell does it fucking matter that he's a Scientologist? So is Tom Cruise. He makes good music! Why should his beliefs sway you on whether or not you like him or not? That's just retarded you guys. He could be freakin' Muslim for all I care...

  • beck is awesome Evan if he is a scientologist but you have to admit Scientology is pretty messed up

  • It's just the belief that you can heal yourself with your mind. You try to relive the painful experiences that you've had and get them behind you so you can be free of the burden. If you think about it, it's not any more messed up then Christianity. People try to heal themselves with there mind, Bush said God spoke to him and told him to send soldiers to Iraq. Come on, tell me that's not crazy...

But yes, if you don't understand it, like myself and most people, it is pretty messed up.

  • its silly. L. Ron Hubbard was a Science Fiction writer.

  • They use those beliefs to run their pyramid scheme.

  • There pyramid scheme... you're messing with me, right?

  • Why should someone listen to someone if what they listen to has caused many to lose there life. Would you listen to a radical extremist bent on killing anyone whom he hates, because he sounds nice?

  • Has Beck caused anyone to lose there life? I must have missed that particular News report.

People listen to rap and hip-hop that have no other connotations then to have sex. People listen to green day, even though one of there songs completely condemns America.

Tell me, how is that any different?

And I would listen to an extremist if they had good music.

  • I don't like John Lennon as a person, I think what he did to his ex-wife and Julian was just terrible. I still love his music.

I'm not here to get in the personal lives of the artists I like. I listen to the music, I don't get all tangled into what religion they practice or what they do outside of music. Go fuck off and find something better to do.

  • wish he wasn't a scientologist

  • This song just makes me happy when I'm pissed it's awesome Beck is aweosme

  • LOVE the long hair!!!

  • Really. I'm not digging the new hair as much, but he's still the coolest person alive.

  • He's still the man.

  • Oh hey, this video was uploaded on my birthday...

  • Happy b-day then?

  • No. Happy c-day then.

  • this is really good. hes kind of creepy.

  • Wot's it wih the Hunky Dory (image)

fixation ? Short of ideas Beckola ?

  • omg it does

  • why did someone ask you out

  • becasue ur gay and i'm not

  • this is so gay i'm tired of you peoples crap

  • Did anyone notice that his cable is not plugged in to anything?

  • haha yeah.. just because u pointed that out, i noticed.

  • Hey hopperltcwf, fuck you and your faggy ringtone selling ass!

  • Beck is so much more talented than the other artists today.

    I love Modern Guilt.

  • Yeah its so awesome

  • Modern guilt is way better than Guero in my opinion

  • Feat Cat Power :o

  • "Think I'm spending but I don't know where, I got this diamond that don't know how to shine."

My favorite line in the song

  • Brilliant.

  • Think Im "STRANDED" but I Dont Know where.

  • yeah seriously!

  • its a 12 sting danelectro guitar

  • I think it's time for a world tour beck! Your fucking awesome! I've never seen you live and I've loved your tunes since I was like 13.

  • I'm 27 and I wish I understood what looser meant when I wrote down the lyrics when I was 12

  • at 24 i still don't understand. :(

  • then you never will

  • And I'm fiiiine with that. I'm not big on lyrics at all. They kinda ruin songs for me most times.

  • tasty

  • What kind of guitar is that?

  • Danelectro

  • beck...brilliant as usal...

  • good song but i like his old stuff better

  • IO thought this was the first song I heard by Beck, but as it turns out, I had heard a lot of his stuff before, but I never knew it was him.

  • same here with alot of the bands or people i hear nowadays

  • That's probably because most bands now sound the same. Beck is unique.

  • yup, he is awesome

  • Haha, that didn't happen to me with Beck, but it has happened to me with others, namely The Shins. It's funny when that happens eh?

  • Indeed it is

  • this is the first time i've heard Beck, I think... its interesting

  • yup, interesting is one way of putting it. unique is another. amazing, brilliant, beautiful...the list goes on and on. to get the full spectrum of what he can do, listen to "Everybody's gotta learn sometime," "Guess I'm Doing Fine," "Loser," and "Nausea." Along with this track, that should give you an understanding of what Beck is capable of. Pure talent.

  • or listen to Sea Change and then Midnite Vultures!! lol

  • I love Beck as much as anybody, but what's up with Modern Guilt and these new black and white videos? Am I missing something? I mean, Sea Change was an amazing departure from his usual funky style, but I'm still not sure where he's going with this latest transformation. Seriously, can some of you hardcore fans enlighten me? I will say, though, that "Youthless" is the best new track and video, fo sho!

  • Beck isnt one to be tied down to just one style of music. He likes to change it up with every album. I agree with you that ever since Sea Change his music is more mellow. Maybe he's just mellowed out and settled down. Perhaps he is not using acid as much anymore? Who knows but what Beck does, he does with love and still makes great music. Lets just see where the future takes us.

    Love,

    Zelddaddy

  • Mainly the reason why Becks music is more mellow nowadays is because he supposedly had this really bad divorce with his wife...after that he released Sea change...with most of the songs on it sounding very sad...after that hes never really been the same...

  • This is not completely true. They were never married. Sea Change was definitely a much more melancholy sounding record, but if you look at Guero or The Information, they're still like previous Beck albums.

  • After odelay Beck went through a divorce with his wife...his stuffs never really been the same since

  • its still good though

  • i think it's gotten a hell of a lot better. but i do'nt think it's due to the divorce, he just hit his stride after sea change. and it's all amazing from sea change on. not to say his earlier stuff was bad, but i think it pales in comparison.

  • yeah...beck is amazing. most peeps dont know that he plays all the instruments in the songs he makes...but in concerts and vids he has other people play with him

  • If you wanna watch a funny video go watch Lululemon Ad Original

  • Hahah, what's up Sam!!! It's Dom!

  • I love Beck too!...:0)~

  • most people would call beck crazy or weird but all of us love beck

WE LOVE BECK!!!!!!!! post to every beck vid

  • "If we can learn to freeze ourselves alive, we can learn to leave these burdens to burn."

  • weed = amazing

  • lol

  • I love how I can never tell what era it is. That's a very unique about Beck.

  • dom its sam again

    !!!!!

  • He is in my opinion a musical genious i mean i haven't heard a old beatles style beat like this used with modern day music, EVER, and his lyrics are also very amazing and they make alot of sense with the video most of the time. This sound he created is very revolutional in the sense that he started a whole new type of sound.

  • yep u caught me

  • Is better than sounding like a dumbass.

  • I agree

  • dude.. beck wrote lyrics and danger mouse (he is the other guy in gnarls barkley, so epic) did all these sick beats. They're great together

  • the video + the song = a message

  • i'm liking the simplicity of the videos for this album. i think he's letting the music speak for itself without glamourization or visual preachiness.

  • i cant express how awesome beck is

  • As much as I love Beck's music and style,

this video is lacking.I mean it is okay to have a boring video or two but when you see this from Beck's normal creative videos it is slow and boring.

  • Don't be fooled by his laid-back California demeanor, he's sharp as a tack, intelligent and creatively and diabolically brilliant....the evidence is in.
