I was the engineer for his "Outlaw" album which was a wonderful experience. Gene was a compassionate being of the highest order. He was alive with joy and engaged with life, I was honored to be his friend. ..May he rest in Peace....Dean Evenson
@bowlofscabs - What's interesting about Gene's comment on the "push towards globalisation" is that you could say that about both Nixon and LBJ. Democrats and Republicans at the federal level have been swapping roles for years, in a nifty little game of hot potato. The Two Party lockdown on national politics makes it easy to swap roles - there will always be a "loyal opposition" ready to continue the same policies, once elected. It's still happening today.
I should also say, Compared to What is a great political song and thankfully crosses the so-called partisan line. You can sing this song about both parties.
the average human only uses 10 per cent of the brains potential, look at genes eyes you can see he s and you can see a beautiful mind turned up to the max .love you gene
Wish I coulda made him tacos! He's just like me cep different. Moved to the country and everything. One semantics issue with the video: globalisation is left wing, not right wing. It is big government. It is the opposite of freedom and freedom is libertarian. I've followed his music since I was 11. Never killed a frog (on purpose) but I was a poor dumb redneck logger for awhile. Anyway I'm gone crank up Compared to What tonight in his honor. My second vinyl because I wore out the one I bought 69
@bowlofscabs1 Left wing extremists or anarchists dont want too much government interferance so that wouldnt be globilisation as gene was saying but if you go far enough to the left your on th right if you go far enofgh to the right your on the left its a circle
my lifelong love and appreciation of music is due in part to my mom's playing of Gene's early 60's records (45s) over and over when i was a youngster. Thanks God, for the gift of Gene's shared talent.
I use "Compared to What" and Mr. McDaniels' story in my class on 60s and 70s movements for racial justice, "All Power to the People!" What an amazing gift. Thank you so much for continuing to share your story!
IT SOUNDS AS IF YOU DONT CARE FOR THE RECORDS YOU MADE IN THE EARLY SIXTIES I THINK THOSE LIBERTY RECORDINGS WERE SOME OF THE BEST RECORDS OVERALL FROM THAT ERA YOU WERE TRULY A GREAT TALENT FROM THAT TIME.
@JIMMYAD46 Lighten up Man... Compared to What was the first one he WROTE! *They* made him feel like a puppet back in A Hundred Pounds of Clay days.... RIP my Brother...
Kudos to my homeboy from Omaha, Nebraska, Gene McDaniels, Rev. McDaniels' baby boy. LOL. I finally got a chance to meet you briefly at the last Omaha Days I visited. I was inducted into the Omaha Black Music Hall of Fame with you. It was an honor making your acquaintance. All best wishes to you and continued blessings. Keep the music coming. The last time I was with Les McCann was in Nagoya about three years ago. I told him we were from the same home town. He had nothing but praise for you.
What a class act. We miss you, Gene.
