no, not that ridiculous... this years team has INCREDIBLE depth and BETTER goal tending than in `02. Look at the defense... look at the speed up front. This is an excellent hockey team. the new rules would have hurt the 02 squad immensely... It's stupid early in the season, but the Wings have the ingredients in place. Let's see where they can go.

that 02 team essentially didn't have a 4th line. boyd devereaux was least played forward. and after that? pavel datsyuk! the 02 wings had to deal with people basically handing them the cup at the beginning of the year and not choking, and they had to go through an amazing avalanche team. that series between colorado and detroit that year could have its own wing in the hall of fame with all the players that were in it.

even holmstrom was burried in their forward lines and now hes a 1st liner! that 02 team is considered by many to be one of the best of all time. it was ranked by the nhl network as the 3rd best stanley cup team in the past 25 years! ahead of 4 oilers teams and 3 islanders teams. so to say this wings team (which i love because they are so damn resilient) is already better than a team that won the cup and is considered one of the best is ignorance. sheer ignorance.

Thank you for this... Vladdie is my hero and was not just a player. He was a warrior who punished himself for the team in every single game. Nobody crossed that blue line with their head down while he was on the ice. He was + 60 that season and we probably never saw his best hockey. Salute to the "Vladinator"
