could you not do exactly the same thing with a ordinary copilot system?

The copilot system just stabilizes (keeps the wings level, etc). The autopilot navigates(steers to waypoints, etc). We use both on this UAV. Takeoff and landing are manual.

i assume it isnt just autopiloted by the lego mindstorms, i would not trust mindstorms with a plane like this, i would have to have a backup control, how does it land anyway?

Man that's nice stuff! I'm also looking to make a UAV drone like the one in GRAW 2! But the problem is, I need a camera to be stuck there and give me live video feed on my pc!
