This is ridiculous. Why do you want to inhibit sexuality in youth? Unfair and harmful, in terms of psychological and physical development. Of course you want your children to respect their bodies, but they must be able to explore their sexuality in a safe way as well. And it's your responsibility as a parent to make that possible. Not by imposing some type of religious rule, but by taking sexuality out of the taboo sphere and at the same time educating about STD prevention and anticonception.

It's much healthier for teenagers to explore their sexualities and even if they make mistakes, such as regretting having had sex, they can teach their future children by example. A good relationship between teens and their parents is important because teenagers shouldn't be taught to suppress their sexual needs and thus feel dirty and unpure should they slip up, but rather learn about practicing emotionally and physically safe sex.

Most of the "kids" that take purity pledges end up having sex any way but they don't use condoms because they tell them condoms don't work. When they contract diseases they don't get medical care because they're too ashamed. Some of these pledges do more harm than good.
These pledges don't do more harm than good. A 2001 study showed that teens that take the pledge are 34% less likely to have sex, 40% less likely to have a child out of wedlock, and 12 more likely to be virgin when they marry. If you plan to wait then pledge or no pledge your not gonna keep condoms in your purse or wallet. the pledge has nothing to do with it. it's just how the person is.

This is ridiculous. Why do you want to inhibit sexuality in youth? Unfair and harmful, in terms of psychological and physical development. Of course you want your children to respect their bodies, but they must be able to explore their sexuality in a safe way as well. And it's your responsibility as a parent to make that possible. Not by imposing some type of religious rule, but by taking sexuality out of the taboo sphere and at the same time educating about STD prevention and anticonception.

It's much healthier for teenagers to explore their sexualities and even if they make mistakes, such as regretting having had sex, they can teach their future children by example. A good relationship between teens and their parents is important because teenagers shouldn't be taught to suppress their sexual needs and thus feel dirty and unpure should they slip up, but rather learn about practicing emotionally and physically safe sex.

If you keep your pledge (which is unlikely; look at the statistics), you will get married young because you want to have sex. I've seen it happen with people I know. Three times. It's saying that you're commiting to be pure, sure it seems a little odd, and this little slide is just showing the father/daughter ball, but if you pledge to someone, say a mom or dad, it helps you to keep that commitment when you know you have support! @p33rc I know, and for some reason these people believe that prayer and Jesus can somehow subdue teenage hormones. I am all for teaching kids about safe sex. When I have a daughter I will teach her the same, but I would tell her to wait for someone she does care about, and not just have a one night stand with a random guy.

Sex has been around since the dawn of time before movies and TV shows and its been demonized ever since. People were told that it was dirty and shameful. That's what they're doing to these kids. They are told that their bodies are something to be ashamed of and their natural hormonal urges are disgusting and need to be holted. If you spend your life avoiding sex then you are still letting sex control you.

Most of the "kids" that take purity pledges end up having sex any way but they don't use condoms because they tell them condoms don't work. When they contract diseases they don't get medical care because they're too ashamed. Some of these pledges do more harm than good.

These pledges don't do more harm than good. A 2001 study showed that teens that take the pledge are 34% less likely to have sex, 40% less likely to have a child out of wedlock, and 12 more likely to be virgin when they marry. If you plan to wait then pledge or no pledge your not gonna keep condoms in your purse or wallet. the pledge has nothing to do with it. it's just how the person is.
