Am I the only one who kept thinking Lion-O was kinda like Batman? Partially because during that one fight alongside Cheetara and Tigra he was the only one without special powers, partially because he blew up a bunch of tanks with thrown sticky grenades at one point (very Batman-like) but mostly because the voice actor also voiced Terry McGinnis of Batman Beyond.
Mumm-Ra was only creepy back in your day because you were a kid. I'm sure this Mumm-Ra is scary to a lot of little kids. You old 80s people grew up with the old, LQ, funny looking Thunder Cats so it only make sense that you would like it over the much better 2011 Cats.
Cartoons do suck these days, for the most part. With that said, I'm starting to see a change with shows like Thunder Cats & Young Justice, lets hope they keep this up. This is a really great reboot, be happy they even did it.

Slightly off-topic; Who thinks Snarf (this version and his VERY annoying original version), is a baby dragon? Look at the ears and underbelly. In the new version esp., I think it would be cool that in one episode he disappears and several episodes later be appears as a fuzzy, slightly less cute but more formidable dragon!
@neviusprime LOL! I guess I did! (Tee hee ). Here's another one. Snarf gets only one speaking line: "'Don't you lose him Snarf Gamgee!' I don't intend to...I don't intend to!"
I love how Mumm Ra looks much more like a living, rotted corpse. I love the new animation, they can do so much with it now, where as the old Thundercats series was limited. But I love both anyways.
@sulhaq Well, they are trying to reboot the series, so giving him a slightly different voice is not a problem. I think his voice matches up pretty well.
@DCMarvel2009 I take back what I said. I actually just watched all 5 episodes and they're pretty good! Listened to some more of Mumm-ra and he's matching up pretty well also. Pretty good reboot overall.
Here's the problem I have(I just couldn't put my finger on it till now) That implied in the original animation(especially the first seaon) that Mumm-ra in "decayed form" is a reanimated corpse,....decrepit, feeble, and not powerful, I always understood he had to transform into "the ever living form" to to leave the pyramid and fight.
Simply put: In his mummy form he was vulnerable to attack and gave the series a few "rules" and plot options.
I actually don't mind the Kamehameha-like power of the sword of omens. I did stick a pin in something mumm-ra said--that the sword originally was his. Does this mean that, if the protective seal is broken, the Sword of Omens could have the devistating power of The One Ring?
Mumm-ra in the old show always had great lines. hope that dosn't change. my favorites are "so long as evil exsist, Mumm-ra live's" "the day is your's thunder cats. but mumm-ra has forever, my day will come." "you think to destory Mumm-ra the ever living, it can not be done, Booooy." and "YOU MOCK MY POOOWER".
Oh god, they didn't even try to get a competent voice actor for Mumm-Ra. He sounds like a timid old grandpa. Mumm-Ra's voice should be vile and enforce PURE TERROR. They could have at least run his voice through harmonizer if they're going this route. Lion-O on the other hand sounds perfect.
im hoping they will somehow show mummra emerging from his casket like the original. the original verson showed mummra could only be weaked by his reflection or by staying away too long from his tomb. and their better be a mamutt too.! im hoping their will be st least 6 seasons of thundercats! unlike the original with only two seasons.
At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like the new Mumm-Ra, but after a couple of views I actually think he is pretty cool. In fact he is what I wished for in the old series. He is dark and evil, exactly what I look for in an enigmatic villain. They have kept the 'magic' with him by not revealing too much - that's a good thing. It keeps the story interesting. I just hope they don't dull him down like they did in the 80s series towards the middle/end of the series..
While the new animation is a good step forward I think the animators of the new series have acknowlaged that there is no way to make to Mumm-Ra any more freightening than he was in the original Rankin/Bass version.
Long live the original undead villain, Mumm-Ra The Ever Living
I suspect that we'll see Mumm-Ra The Ever-Living near the end of the first season. I'm sure it will be worth the wait, but dammit the transformation is one childhood memory I want to see updated A.S.A.P.
So far I like the first couple of episodes. I grew up on the originals, and since Mumm-Ra is one of my favorite Bad-asses of all time, I really like how dark and powerful he is so far. I mean he killed like ten people in his first appearance, something the original Mumm-Ra never did. Yes the sun thing is kinda played out, but I like it better than the mirror approach, I mean that was the reason he lost every episode in the original first season.
Maybe they're just gonna have one epic fight at the end of the show with mummra just like in avatar where aang only fought the firelord at the end it worked for avatar but I don't think it will work for this I hope they don't do it that way I wanna see mummra get down all the time. If they do this here they'll probably just save the reflection thing for the ending of the show as the ultimate weakness.
One other note, I am not too much fond of Cheetara not having the motherly role that was more dominate of her character, on top of being more younger and too sexy for the YOUNGER audience. Of course the series is just beginning. so they might work the motherly side of her in for the twins. And as for letting my son watching this, not yet. However, it would be interesting to see what's in store on this. Though some may not agree, for both old and new we can agree on this: THUNDERCATS - HOOOOO!!!!
Man! Some people need to just chill-ax and enjoy either their original ThunderCats that they grew up with or sit back and enjoy the ride with the reboot. I for one would like to be able to get a hold of the original. While the reboot may be okay for me, I want to actually share the original with my son who is not yet 2 years old. And for good reasons that good parents would: Not as much violence and good strong principles to grow up with. Than if this endures, the reboot when he's mature enough.
You scared me so hard I dove behind the couch when I was 7
I haven't given up hope on Robin Atkin Downes(the new voice) but he doesn't sound as sinister or as evil as hammond. At the least they should have cast an actor with a deeper voice or made downes try to emulate Hammand more.
Btw, for those of you who don't know, I'm pretty sure that the one who voices this 2011 Lion-O is the same guy that dis the voice of Terry from "Batman Beyond" ^^
Mumm-Ra's seems slightly more powerful, but at the same time weaker. In his normal form he is much stronger compared to the old one, but now he is weak against sunlight.
@gamefreaksal True...however he can leave his pyramid while not transformed into "the Ever living" so I think it's an even trade, he can leave, but he's week to sunlight....
@protosaber363 I don't think it was a rule in the old show that Mummra couldn't leave his pyramid without transforming into his everliving form first. I remember sometimes he left his pyramid without transforming first like "The Garden of delights" and "The Doomgaze."
Dawnelldo2 so what he was still more badass! And the reflection thing was more unique cause if the sun hurts him then that means we won't see any daytime fighting I guess. Anyway it's still a pretty good reboot so far but I don't know if this one will ever have the nostalgia the old one has made us have for so long
@Dawnelldo2 This Mummra needed help from the sunlight though to be fair and the original only had to go back to his pyramid when his power needed recharging.
I love how Mumm-Ra just stares as Lion-O runs up and grabs the sword. I'd be in the room screaming: For the love of God SHOOT HIM before he grabs the...oh great he grabbed the sword. See this is why you lost a thousand years ago. And then I'd get fried probably.
@NegaDruid Nope. I remember seeing Mummra in his usual form out in the sunlight in the old show and it didn't affect him at all. In the old show he was really powerful and there wasn't much way to defeat him other than by his reflection. Even in his mummy form and not in his everliving form he was able to put up a fight like in "Monkian's bargain" I think. Even destroying his coffin the source of his power still wasn't enough to kill him for good. He was truely a difficult villain to beat.
@mummra4ever Yes, this is true, however, you then have the 'Superman' problem - someone who cannot be defeated, and thus there must be some level of convoluted trickery to weaken them to make the fight actually worth watching. 80s cartoon pacing was in its infancy in Thundercats, thus we NEVER questioned as children why it is that this 'truly difficult villain to beat' never actually managed to kill our heroes, but as adults, it does seem daft that the CLEARLY more powerful character never wins!
@Jennypentaru I never understand why anyone expects any villain to actually win against the heroes. They never do and that's not the point. The point is make them a good threat to the heroes and be a good match for them. That's it basically. No one should want to see the villains win in the end that's not really a happy ending. This new Mummra probably won't ultimately win either. Besides I didn't see anything convoluted about Mummra's weakness being his reflection.
@mummra4ever He is a good threat. He hasn't even turned into Mumm-Ra the Everliving and he knocked out Jaga and his men, who in previous scenes you can see are not weak. Having Mumm-Ra get weak at his own reflection is better than Sunlight? No it isn't. I'd rather have a villain who can attack when people are most vulnerable, at night. Rather than a villain who can attack at anytime and be thwarted because someone showed him his reflection. You are nit-picking and and blinded by your childhood.
@paperluigi64 I didn't say this mummra isn't a threat. I'm just saying that I prefer the reflection weakeness because it's more original than the sunlight weakeness which is something I've seen done before in other shows and films. Besides in the old show he wasn't always defeated by his reflection and eventually it wasn't even a problem for him anymore. And to be fair I can say the same about this new mummra he can be defeated anytime when he's in the sun.
@paperluigi64 Besides I don't really think these thundercats would be all that more vulnerable at night than they would be during the day. Both versions of Mummra are more powerful than the thundercats so overall except for the different weakeness with different circumstances to them seem about equally as much of a threat to them. And really if his only weakeness is sunlight how else are they going to defeat him every time they have a battle?
@mummra4ever thats not entrely true. mumm-ra has been beaten by the thundercats before, and is certainly not as powerul as the sword of omens. why on earth woud he be so desperate to possess the Eye of Thundera if he was more powerful than it? he is their greatest foe though definately.
@PhantomChard101 Yes he's been beaten by the thundercats but not defeated or destroyed for good. That's the point I just made about his character. It just can't happen they make this clear in the original show a good couple of times.
@paperluigi64 In the old show he was beaten by his reflection or running out of power and needing to go back to his pyramid to regenerate. He couldn't be defeated just by fighting him because he was stronger than that and couldn't be weakened like that. So my point is if this Mummra is weakened by sunlight then fine. It's not original but whatever. What I really don't want to see is by the end of this series mummra can suddenly be killed now. He couldn't be in the original so I don't want that.
@mummra4ever actually Mumm-ra could be defeated by fighting him/power on its own, and this was shown in many episodes. if he was overpowered then he would revert to his mummy form and fly away back to his pyramid
@PhantomChard101 I don't remember him being psychically overpowered by the thundercats and weakened in that way. He only went back into his mummy form when he was shown his reflection or he ran out of power or like in some rare way weakened by magic like in "Excalibur." The first time he fights liono in the show he easily overpowers him and nearly wins until his reflection weakeness is discovered.
@mummra4ever i can give you some examples if you like : the jade dragon - the eye of thundera blasts into him and it reverts him back into his mummy form, and return to thundera part 3 - the sword of omens is blasting against mummras energy beams, and the sword overpowers mummra, blasts him, and he reverts back to his weak form. there are many more, but off the top of my head, those are two examples.
@PhantomChard101 I thought you were just talking about them beating him up in a physical fight or something like that rather than using any powers like the sword. I was thinking more about how he was defeated in season one I think you're talking about season two when his reflection no longer affected him. Yes I can see how the power of the sword might weaken his power enough to get him back in his mummy form.
@PhantomChard101 And if I remember right he wanted the sword in the original because he wanted to use it for his own evil purposes as well as making sure that he would still be the most powerful thing on third earth. But still the sword might have been powerful enough for him to want it but it wasn't powerful enough to destroy him.
@paperluigi64 Because that would undermine what the original character was all about. The fact that he was eternal and couldn't be killed is what made him such a big threat to the thundercats because he'll always be around to fight them and they'll never really be rid of him. So I'm just hoping that they won't do anything to ruin that.
@mummra4ever Watching shows where the villain never dies is annoying. I do not see why you would even defend that. The show would never have an ending. It would be the same thing every episode, I like my shows to have an ending, rather that have something that can go on forever. It wasn't the fact he was a big threat in the old show, he was just more of a nuisance. "Oh look, here comes Mumm-Ra again." Then they kick his ass and next episode he'd be back again, and the one after. It's annoying.
@paperluigi64 The original did manage to have an ending without Mummra necessarily being defeated for good. So you can have it both ways. Besides Mummra coming back to fight the thundercats isn't all that different from like for example shredder and krang coming back every time with a plan to defeat the turtles. It's expected for the main villains to keep showing up again after being defeated. It's like what the Joker in the dark knight says "I think you and I are destined to do this forever."
@mummra4ever And yet the Joker still dies in Batman. So there goes that. Point is, it is a tv show. TV SHOW. If you like your old Thundercats then watch that. Otherwise stop your nit-picking. No one ever pleases hardcore fans because they nit-pick too damn much. Like you. Complaining about his weakness being sunlight. "I saw the movie the Mummy the other day and he was walking in sunlight." No point in bring that up either because his reflection didn't hurt him either.
@paperluigi64 I'm not saying it should be the exact same case with every villain like it is with Mummra in the original. I was just making the point that in other shows the main villain always comes back too they might be killed off eventually but until then the threat of them was always there too like Mummra. So apart from him not being able to be destroyed it's not that different overall.
@paperluigi64 I think I implied that when I pointed out the difference between Mummra not being able to be destrotyed and some other villain ultimately getting killed off. Just saying that until the main villain that died for example would have been a bit of constant threat like mummra since they would also keep coming back to be a threat against the heroes until they got killed off.
@paperluigi64 He wasn't treated as being a nuisance just as a constant threat that the Thundercats took seriously. The reason why Mummra is everliving is because the writers wanted to show that neverending battle of good vs evil and it was actually a good lesson to kids. That evil can never really be destroyed just held in check by those who can do that. They even had Jaga clearly say this to Liono when talking about Mummra at one point.
@mummra4ever Constant threat turns into a nuisance after a long period of time. Get's to the point where it's like "Why even bother if you are gonna lose?" and you bringing up the whole never ending battle with Good Vs. Evil is pointless because you even said "Why do people expect the villain to win? They always lose." You make it sound as if it's one-sided when it isn't.
@paperluigi64 Well in the show mummra would say that he had all the time he needed and that one day he would prevail. That's the thing he's relentless in his efforts because he knows he's eternal so he saw his victory against the thundercats as being inevitable.
@paperluigi64 And I only said that because it seems like to me that some people seem to think that the villain should actually win for good. Which I just can't understand why they would think that. If Mummra did win for good it wouldn't really be a neverending battle of good vs evil would it? But even though he is defeated he's still usually there to be a threat again to the heroes. So that theme of good vs evil still stands.
@paperluigi64 Besides not all of the episodes involved them fighting mummra. Some of them involved either going against the mutants or some other villains. The resolution might have been the same sometimes with either mummra being defeated by his reflection or the sword saving the day but the stories overall were still different enough so it didn't feel exactly the same. And they would do something completely different like the anointment trails episodes and "Excalibur."
@mummra4ever But majority of episodes consisted of Mumm-ra trying to get the sword of omens to defeat the Thundercats with. The stories of course were different, but ended the same. Mumm-ra defeated and retreating back to his lair. Rinse and repeat. So far all I am getting out of you is that you are so blinded by nostalgia, you feel the need to nit-pick the new Mumm-ra and his new weakness. It's not even that big of a deal, but that's how blinded you are by your memories of the original.
@paperluigi64 I can assure you that I'm not blinded by nostalgia. If you want to say that those episodes that ended in the same way, which I did point out by the way, was a weakeness of the show then fine. Good shows can have their own strengths and weakenesses. But even if the ending was sometimes a bit repetitive it still didn't affect my overall enjoyment of the show. The original for what it was was great and is I think deserving of being called the classic that others say it is.
@paperluigi64 And like I said they do things differently enough and some of my favourite episodes from the original are those that break that formula. And of course a remake or reboot should try to do something different from the original. I don't have a problem with that but that doesn't mean I automatically have to like the changes they make. All I can do is watch and see if I think it's a good idea or if I like it. I just didn't with the sunlight thing for the reasons I've said.
@mummra4ever first of all, lets get something straight : i LOVE mummra. he is my favourtie villain ever, not just caroon villains, but villains in any media. However, the reason Mummra was after the sword was because it was more powerful than he was. not just because it was powerful enough to want it, but because it was more powerful than he was. he shows his awe at its power even in his first appearance, and stating in the garden of delights how 'the sword is invincible'. However, so is Mummra.
@PhantomChard101 I'm not trying to make it sound like you're wrong or anything but I don't quite remember those bits. I remember in his first episode all he talks about with the sword that he knows the mutants want it and that he's known about it for a thousand years and that they could share it. In garden of delights he says he's heard the sword can't be used for evil purposes but wants to find a way of doing that but can't control it himself.
@mummra4ever where he says hes known of its power for a thousand years is 'the unholy alliance', where he goes on a rant to Willa about how invincible the Sword is is 'the garden of delights' and theres a cool little rant he does at the beginning of 'Excalibur' about how powerful the Sword and Eye of Thundera is, and how everything he throws at it is either overpowered or destroyed by its strength. and where he throws it into a black hole is called 'Sword in a hole'.
@PhantomChard101 So yes maybe the sword is more powerful than him and like I said it's understandable why he would want the sword either for his purposes or he tries to get rid of it so there won't be anything in the way of him ruling third earth. I remember he once tried throwing it into a black hole just to be rid of it. But anyway I just hope this mummra is as powerful overall as the old one and also can't be killed. That's all I'm asking for at least.
@paperluigi64 And to just further prove that I'm not blinded by nostalgia one thing I do like about this new thundercats is that they avoided making snarf annoying in this one. I never really cared for snarf in the original so I'm glad he's not annoying here. I didn't come into this new thundercats wanting to hate it or nitpick it. Really the sunlight weakeness thing is the only major thing I haven't like so far. At this point I'm still interested in seeing more of this.

Here he seems near omnipotent in both forms.
Dwnshifter 6 months ago
@Dwnshifter There is one critical weakness he has: sunlight. Meaning he can only attack during the night, and in certain places.
In my opinion, that makes him all the more threatening for him to be so much stronger. It gives the team more to work for, and more strength to gain.
nagaking07 6 months ago
@nagaking07 It also beats his old weakness of...his reflection. Seriously that is weaksauce right there. Sunlight? Yeah works with the undead motif.

I actually don't mind the Kamehameha-like power of the sword of omens. I did stick a pin in something mumm-ra said--that the sword originally was his. Does this mean that, if the protective seal is broken, the Sword of Omens could have the devistating power of The One Ring?

"you think to destory Mumm-ra the ever living, it can not be done, Booooy." and "YOU MOCK MY POOOWER".

@makistudio You must have not watched much of the original show. He did use it to attack people there as well.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
Well, he was always pretty frail in his shrunken form. Transformed, he was uber and terrifyingly powerful.
I expect Mumm-Ra to only be vulnerable to sunlight in his shrunken form.
NegaDruid 7 months ago
@NegaDruid Nope. I remember seeing Mummra in his usual form out in the sunlight in the old show and it didn't affect him at all. In the old show he was really powerful and there wasn't much way to defeat him other than by his reflection. Even in his mummy form and not in his everliving form he was able to put up a fight like in "Monkian's bargain" I think. Even destroying his coffin the source of his power still wasn't enough to kill him for good. He was truely a difficult villain to beat.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@mummra4ever Yes, this is true, however, you then have the 'Superman' problem - someone who cannot be defeated, and thus there must be some level of convoluted trickery to weaken them to make the fight actually worth watching. 80s cartoon pacing was in its infancy in Thundercats, thus we NEVER questioned as children why it is that this 'truly difficult villain to beat' never actually managed to kill our heroes, but as adults, it does seem daft that the CLEARLY more powerful character never wins!
Jennypentaru 7 months ago
@Jennypentaru I never understand why anyone expects any villain to actually win against the heroes. They never do and that's not the point. The point is make them a good threat to the heroes and be a good match for them. That's it basically. No one should want to see the villains win in the end that's not really a happy ending. This new Mummra probably won't ultimately win either. Besides I didn't see anything convoluted about Mummra's weakness being his reflection.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@mummra4ever He is a good threat. He hasn't even turned into Mumm-Ra the Everliving and he knocked out Jaga and his men, who in previous scenes you can see are not weak. Having Mumm-Ra get weak at his own reflection is better than Sunlight? No it isn't. I'd rather have a villain who can attack when people are most vulnerable, at night. Rather than a villain who can attack at anytime and be thwarted because someone showed him his reflection. You are nit-picking and and blinded by your childhood.
paperluigi64 7 months ago
@paperluigi64 I didn't say this mummra isn't a threat. I'm just saying that I prefer the reflection weakeness because it's more original than the sunlight weakeness which is something I've seen done before in other shows and films. Besides in the old show he wasn't always defeated by his reflection and eventually it wasn't even a problem for him anymore. And to be fair I can say the same about this new mummra he can be defeated anytime when he's in the sun.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@paperluigi64 Besides I don't really think these thundercats would be all that more vulnerable at night than they would be during the day. Both versions of Mummra are more powerful than the thundercats so overall except for the different weakeness with different circumstances to them seem about equally as much of a threat to them. And really if his only weakeness is sunlight how else are they going to defeat him every time they have a battle?
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@mummra4ever thats not entrely true. mumm-ra has been beaten by the thundercats before, and is certainly not as powerul as the sword of omens. why on earth woud he be so desperate to possess the Eye of Thundera if he was more powerful than it? he is their greatest foe though definately.
PhantomChard101 7 months ago
@PhantomChard101 Yes he's been beaten by the thundercats but not defeated or destroyed for good. That's the point I just made about his character. It just can't happen they make this clear in the original show a good couple of times.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@paperluigi64 In the old show he was beaten by his reflection or running out of power and needing to go back to his pyramid to regenerate. He couldn't be defeated just by fighting him because he was stronger than that and couldn't be weakened like that. So my point is if this Mummra is weakened by sunlight then fine. It's not original but whatever. What I really don't want to see is by the end of this series mummra can suddenly be killed now. He couldn't be in the original so I don't want that.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@mummra4ever actually Mumm-ra could be defeated by fighting him/power on its own, and this was shown in many episodes. if he was overpowered then he would revert to his mummy form and fly away back to his pyramid
PhantomChard101 7 months ago
@PhantomChard101 I don't remember him being psychically overpowered by the thundercats and weakened in that way. He only went back into his mummy form when he was shown his reflection or he ran out of power or like in some rare way weakened by magic like in "Excalibur." The first time he fights liono in the show he easily overpowers him and nearly wins until his reflection weakeness is discovered.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@mummra4ever i can give you some examples if you like : the jade dragon - the eye of thundera blasts into him and it reverts him back into his mummy form, and return to thundera part 3 - the sword of omens is blasting against mummras energy beams, and the sword overpowers mummra, blasts him, and he reverts back to his weak form. there are many more, but off the top of my head, those are two examples.
PhantomChard101 7 months ago
@PhantomChard101 I thought you were just talking about them beating him up in a physical fight or something like that rather than using any powers like the sword. I was thinking more about how he was defeated in season one I think you're talking about season two when his reflection no longer affected him. Yes I can see how the power of the sword might weaken his power enough to get him back in his mummy form.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@PhantomChard101 And if I remember right he wanted the sword in the original because he wanted to use it for his own evil purposes as well as making sure that he would still be the most powerful thing on third earth. But still the sword might have been powerful enough for him to want it but it wasn't powerful enough to destroy him.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@paperluigi64 Because that would undermine what the original character was all about. The fact that he was eternal and couldn't be killed is what made him such a big threat to the thundercats because he'll always be around to fight them and they'll never really be rid of him. So I'm just hoping that they won't do anything to ruin that.
mummra4ever 7 months ago

paperluigi64 7 months ago
@mummra4ever Watching shows where the villain never dies is annoying. I do not see why you would even defend that. The show would never have an ending. It would be the same thing every episode, I like my shows to have an ending, rather that have something that can go on forever. It wasn't the fact he was a big threat in the old show, he was just more of a nuisance. "Oh look, here comes Mumm-Ra again." Then they kick his ass and next episode he'd be back again, and the one after. It's annoying.
paperluigi64 7 months ago
@paperluigi64 The original did manage to have an ending without Mummra necessarily being defeated for good. So you can have it both ways. Besides Mummra coming back to fight the thundercats isn't all that different from like for example shredder and krang coming back every time with a plan to defeat the turtles. It's expected for the main villains to keep showing up again after being defeated. It's like what the Joker in the dark knight says "I think you and I are destined to do this forever."
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@mummra4ever And yet the Joker still dies in Batman. So there goes that. Point is, it is a tv show. TV SHOW. If you like your old Thundercats then watch that. Otherwise stop your nit-picking. No one ever pleases hardcore fans because they nit-pick too damn much. Like you. Complaining about his weakness being sunlight. "I saw the movie the Mummy the other day and he was walking in sunlight." No point in bring that up either because his reflection didn't hurt him either.
paperluigi64 7 months ago
@paperluigi64 I'm not saying it should be the exact same case with every villain like it is with Mummra in the original. I was just making the point that in other shows the main villain always comes back too they might be killed off eventually but until then the threat of them was always there too like Mummra. So apart from him not being able to be destroyed it's not that different overall.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@mummra4ever It is different. One threat ends, while another continues.
paperluigi64 7 months ago
@paperluigi64 I think I implied that when I pointed out the difference between Mummra not being able to be destrotyed and some other villain ultimately getting killed off. Just saying that until the main villain that died for example would have been a bit of constant threat like mummra since they would also keep coming back to be a threat against the heroes until they got killed off.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@paperluigi64 He wasn't treated as being a nuisance just as a constant threat that the Thundercats took seriously. The reason why Mummra is everliving is because the writers wanted to show that neverending battle of good vs evil and it was actually a good lesson to kids. That evil can never really be destroyed just held in check by those who can do that. They even had Jaga clearly say this to Liono when talking about Mummra at one point.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@mummra4ever Constant threat turns into a nuisance after a long period of time. Get's to the point where it's like "Why even bother if you are gonna lose?" and you bringing up the whole never ending battle with Good Vs. Evil is pointless because you even said "Why do people expect the villain to win? They always lose." You make it sound as if it's one-sided when it isn't.
paperluigi64 7 months ago
@paperluigi64 Well in the show mummra would say that he had all the time he needed and that one day he would prevail. That's the thing he's relentless in his efforts because he knows he's eternal so he saw his victory against the thundercats as being inevitable.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@paperluigi64 And I only said that because it seems like to me that some people seem to think that the villain should actually win for good. Which I just can't understand why they would think that. If Mummra did win for good it wouldn't really be a neverending battle of good vs evil would it? But even though he is defeated he's still usually there to be a threat again to the heroes. So that theme of good vs evil still stands.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@paperluigi64 Besides not all of the episodes involved them fighting mummra. Some of them involved either going against the mutants or some other villains. The resolution might have been the same sometimes with either mummra being defeated by his reflection or the sword saving the day but the stories overall were still different enough so it didn't feel exactly the same. And they would do something completely different like the anointment trails episodes and "Excalibur."
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@mummra4ever But majority of episodes consisted of Mumm-ra trying to get the sword of omens to defeat the Thundercats with. The stories of course were different, but ended the same. Mumm-ra defeated and retreating back to his lair. Rinse and repeat. So far all I am getting out of you is that you are so blinded by nostalgia, you feel the need to nit-pick the new Mumm-ra and his new weakness. It's not even that big of a deal, but that's how blinded you are by your memories of the original.
paperluigi64 7 months ago
@paperluigi64 I can assure you that I'm not blinded by nostalgia. If you want to say that those episodes that ended in the same way, which I did point out by the way, was a weakeness of the show then fine. Good shows can have their own strengths and weakenesses. But even if the ending was sometimes a bit repetitive it still didn't affect my overall enjoyment of the show. The original for what it was was great and is I think deserving of being called the classic that others say it is.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@paperluigi64 And like I said they do things differently enough and some of my favourite episodes from the original are those that break that formula. And of course a remake or reboot should try to do something different from the original. I don't have a problem with that but that doesn't mean I automatically have to like the changes they make. All I can do is watch and see if I think it's a good idea or if I like it. I just didn't with the sunlight thing for the reasons I've said.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@mummra4ever first of all, lets get something straight : i LOVE mummra. he is my favourtie villain ever, not just caroon villains, but villains in any media. However, the reason Mummra was after the sword was because it was more powerful than he was. not just because it was powerful enough to want it, but because it was more powerful than he was. he shows his awe at its power even in his first appearance, and stating in the garden of delights how 'the sword is invincible'. However, so is Mummra.
PhantomChard101 7 months ago
@PhantomChard101 I'm not trying to make it sound like you're wrong or anything but I don't quite remember those bits. I remember in his first episode all he talks about with the sword that he knows the mutants want it and that he's known about it for a thousand years and that they could share it. In garden of delights he says he's heard the sword can't be used for evil purposes but wants to find a way of doing that but can't control it himself.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@mummra4ever where he says hes known of its power for a thousand years is 'the unholy alliance', where he goes on a rant to Willa about how invincible the Sword is is 'the garden of delights' and theres a cool little rant he does at the beginning of 'Excalibur' about how powerful the Sword and Eye of Thundera is, and how everything he throws at it is either overpowered or destroyed by its strength. and where he throws it into a black hole is called 'Sword in a hole'.
PhantomChard101 7 months ago
@PhantomChard101 So yes maybe the sword is more powerful than him and like I said it's understandable why he would want the sword either for his purposes or he tries to get rid of it so there won't be anything in the way of him ruling third earth. I remember he once tried throwing it into a black hole just to be rid of it. But anyway I just hope this mummra is as powerful overall as the old one and also can't be killed. That's all I'm asking for at least.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
@paperluigi64 And to just further prove that I'm not blinded by nostalgia one thing I do like about this new thundercats is that they avoided making snarf annoying in this one. I never really cared for snarf in the original so I'm glad he's not annoying here. I didn't come into this new thundercats wanting to hate it or nitpick it. Really the sunlight weakeness thing is the only major thing I haven't like so far. At this point I'm still interested in seeing more of this.
mummra4ever 7 months ago
