For every 1 F-15 fighter jet , the Soviets would have 3 Sukoi SU-27 fighter jet .

Its just a mater of numbers , the US might have better stuff , its just the Soviets have more of them and they did the job pretty damn good.

And if it is cheaper to manufacture a T-90 then an Abrams then the USSR has the upper hand. It might of not been as affective then an Abrams but it still did the job and the Soviets had lost of them.

@MrJrMcLovin @MrJrMcLovin You do realize that just because, the USSR has more tanks doesn't mean much. Hand held SRAW or a TOW missile on a Humvee could turn it into scrap metal, the frontal armor of the tanks wouldn't be able to stop it. For every M1A1 destroyed, I would say three T-80's would go with it. That's not calculating what Air support, or infantry would destroy. America also had the best airforce back in the cold war era, also a larger and more modern navy.

@Darkestsides You don’t make much sense my friend, your basing a Humvee to a tank, I doubt the TOW would even be in range for a kill when the tank can get a kill from 2 miles a way. And the States did not necessary have the best airforce at that time they use the F 15 and that plane never got shot down and has the best survivability of any US jet at the time but you cant really say anything about the Russian air force cause they dint have any combat since Afghanistan so you cant reallly say that

@MrJrMcLovin You would be surprised, the tow can reach out at 3000 with special ammunition it can even go as far as 4000 meters. Of course they wouldn't engage a tank while sitting in the open they would be turned to dust , but by ambushing and hiding they could affectively wound an armor column. It's not to hard to make a small Humvee blend in with a bush. Also I might add, it's not that big of a target unlike a T-80.

@MrJrMcLovin About the USSR vs USA in air superiority, American planes have been proven better, maybe because of the pilots, but Operation desert storm there was air to air combat, and America didn't lose one plane from air to air combat. I think Israel also has had Dogfights with their version the the "F-16" and the outcome was in Israel's favor. But you are right, besides a few dog fights here and there by other countries no big air battles. I would bet on Americas planes any day though.

American planes rely too much on technology and again they are too expensive to manufacture, if they US had an infinite supply of cash deposits then of course it the states would win, but they don’t so I believe that the Russian Mig. Or Su’s will do as good as a job as an F-15, F-22 or F-35’s

@MrJrMcLovin Yeah you have a very strong point, I don't like the F-22 or the F-35, the F-35 especially, It is a piece of junk, Su-27 beats it in dog fights according to Harpoon 3 simulation. F-22 is far to over priced and complicated to be mass produced too. Back in the late 80's and early 90's it was a different story, but I agree with you now. If they phase out their other jets the US would be hopeless against Russia.

There aircraft caries came out in the same year 1975, the Russians had a larger Submarine fleet, the US did not even have cruisers until 1983. The Russians have a larger range of ship classes, from Destroyers to Frigates . If I’m not mistaken the states have 6-7 fleets while the Russians I believe only have 5. I’m not sure if that’s true but I know the US have more fleets then USSR

@MrJrMcLovin Also, During the time the war erupted in the game, America was just starting to get the Aegis Combat System on a some of their vessels which would put them at a much greater advantage technology wise when it came to navel warfare. Their missiles would be able to hit ships, and other missiles much more affectively then any Russian surface ship. The reason why the US didn't have such variety of ships is, because of the way their fleet system works.

@MrJrMcLovin I've read books upon books of cold war speculation, I cannot say I am an expert, but from what I can accumulate from about 8 books about the cold war that is my opinion. I suggest you read Tom Clancy's, Red Storm Rising It was an amazing book and it really opened my eyes about the subject. You can probably find it and Chapters in Canada, or Indigo in the states for $9. I'm Canadian by the way and I'm not bias towards the states. I just look at the facts.

@Darkestsides I’m Canadian too, from Quebec. The only Tom Clancy book I’ve read was the Bear and the Dragon, and that I was a sick book. I mostly get my info on the Cold war from Docs. And books but mostly from my History teacher and my dad. They teach me a lot bout this kind of stuff especially my dad, the military runs in our family, he an ex British royal marine and our family has been involved in every war with the British and he teaches me these kind of stuff, I’m 14 so i think its cool

My grand father was an officer in the airforce, my uncle was engineer for the Canadian military, and my cousin is in Afghanistan. I'm personally planning to go to the RMC in Kingston Ontario to become an Officer in the army. I'm 18.

Only the idea behind this is a bit faulty - Because at 1989 the Soviet Union was too weak to attack It didn't have the military strength or the economical strength to pull of a war, nor did the leaders wished to have one.

It would have been much more interesting if it would have been placed in about the 1960s or 1950s when there was the Korean War(dont remember the exact date) which almost broke out into a 3rd WW - it would have fitted very well for this scenario of Russians mounting up

only reason they used 1989 was because of germany in a right mess, and the berlin wall fell then, here the russians fell'd it for them and did what germany did to france to germany in an ironic way, but yeah, it was only the surprise of america being land assaulted if anything that makes it look worse.

@gunforsale I think they wanted to differentiate their units from the typical WW2 titles and put it in some sort of a modern setting. With impact of it being closer to home. In the Korean war, the weapons used were similar to WW2 weapons as there was a scale down of all the forces by the allied side.

@Unit987654321 They had a reason, their own political system was crumbling at the roots during that time, the only way to save it is to start a war. It makes perfect sense, how else would the USSR survive. They would be able to conquer much land and natural recourses from adjacent countries to help sustain their war effort. Even if they were to "loose" the war, they still wouldn't be vanquished. Between USSR and NATO it would be a draw, there would be no change in borders, just young lives.

@Darkestsides There would only be really 2 outcomes, Nuclear holocaust, or stalemate and I'm more then sure neither of the countries would be beating back to the point they would use nuclear weapons. It would be a war of attrition, just wearing down each others logistics until there is nothing left on either side, this is also why this war never happened, the leaders knew that it would be WW1 all over again, millions of lives lost, not even a rock gained.
