This has probably been pointed out somewhere, but in the DS remake, one of the thieves, (damned if i can remember which one) is in fact a lady. That's probably where the confusion is coming from.

Cockatrice and Basilisks are both mythological beasts from the lands around the Mediterranean sea, and are mostly reptilian creatures that turn people to stone. Cockatrices being half lizard chickens, and Basilisks being six or eight legged lizards with beaks.

@DivineMoogle You know how in lots of RPGs, you'll beat a boss and then the place you're in starts crumbling around you? (Vavalis in FF4 is another good example). That's a load bearing boss because it's a take on the term "load bearing beam" or something in engineering a building where if you remove that one piece, the whole place comes falling down.

I don't believe that you can return to Gratze once it explodes. I've never had trouble finding dragon eggs after this event, too.

@redbuck82 In the DS version one of them is female. I'm not sure why they'd choose to change it, though, seeing as it makes as much sense to have a duo of brotherly thieves as it does to have a Bonney and Clyde duo of thieves. Still, at least they were still pretty funny in the DS version. :D
